Nice place, food was very good, and the price was fair. it was at 4 pm on Sunday my waitress was Lindsay who was excellent and knew the menu. The ceprese skewers were good, the creamy baked potato soup had very good flavor, creamy, maybe in a little thick to call soup but perfect for me! The meatloaf made my top 3 of meatloafs try (meatloaf is one of my favorite meals ) the flavor was yummy, it didn't fall apart when you cut it, the mushroom gravy finished it well, the smashed potatoes with the some skins (YES), garlic, butter, nice texture, and the green beans, crisp, flavorful. Now the buttermilk pie was delicious the caramel sauce drizzled over it almost like a cheesecake but different - very nice ! The only thing wrong with my pie was there just not enough of it, but the rest of the portions were very adequate, I left there full. read more

I had a great night at the 88 celebrating with old friends! The 88 may not have a progressive menu compared to other more urban establishments, but what they do offer is classic and delicious. I ordered the shrimp scampi. It was cooked perfectly and my pasta was filling and yummy! My husband had the flat iron steak with mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli. He felt everything was cooked perfectly and given the choice would happily enjoy this dish as his last meal on earth. Thanks 88 for providing a nice fine dining option in Buckhannon. read more

The 88 Restaurant & Lounge has fabulous down home cooking and more! We ate breakfast and dinner here during our stay. The food is fabulous and the staff are great. I would only warn individuals that this is not a quick in and out service restaurant. If you are looking to get your food quickly, I would not recommend going to 88 Restaurant. We thought we would be fine to head down for breakfast and get a quick bite to eat before we checked out; however, we barely made our check out time. We will definitely be going back, we will just plan better for our next stay. We also encourage everyone else to try this little gem. The food will be worth it!!! read more

I was on vacation and came to dinner here with my friend and her fiance. They heard this restaurant was very good. I was concerned when our drinks, salad, and appetizer arrived at the same time. My friend's fiance pointed this out and asked that things slow down a bit. The waitress was friendly and ensured we had some time between our appetizer/salads and dinner. The salad was fresh and our hummus appetizer was of high quality. I am very picky about my hummus, and it was excellent. Our entrees were all beautifully plated and tasted excellent. We shared carrot cake for dessert and was some of the best carrot cake any of us had ever had. They also have a very nice and reasonable wine list. Great find! I ordered the crab cake salad with champagne vinaigrette and received a generous portion. It was delicious. I topped off my meal with an amazing gluten-free chocolate torte with raspberry drizzle. Full menu and daily specials. Would recommend this place to anyone visiting Buckhannon. read more

This bar is amazing! The staff and customers really set the atmosphere, especially on Friday's in the summertime where you can drink outside at the pavilion. The bartenders are exceptionally responsive and welcoming, and have a great memory for your drink of preference. The crowd is a great mix of personalities who more often than not welcome everybody. Pros: Very friendly staff. The salad was quite good and the portion size was adequate. Cons: It is so dark. The lighting is quite uncomfortable and strains the eyes. I am a (not very strict) vegetarian, so I don't expect an extensive selection in a small-town restaurant, but the menu is surprisingly limited. Many of the items are very overpriced. I have never waited so long at any other restaurant, even when it was a cooked-to-order sit-down place and understaffed. The same thing happened last year and I thought that maybe I was just there on an "off night." This time, however, the same thing happened. I had time to drink about three or four iced teas before my food (the "Summer Crunch" salad, I believe it was called) arrived. If you are eating with a group (even a small group) and you want to wait until everyone has been served before eating, any hot food will get cold. The staff apparently are not told that you should NEVER allow the drink pitcher to touch the glass or straw when refilling. It's highly unsanitary. Conclusion: If not for the two pros, I would have given it only one star, and that was mostly out of charity because I hate to give bad reviews at all. read more

Everything here is made from scratch from what I can tell. The food is excellently done though was a tad disappointed the sausages were on the small side (circular shaped and quite tiny!). Other than that I don't have an issue with this place. The staff is quite friendly and most definitely will chat with customers. Came here one evening very early on a Friday to celebrate our anniversary. The restuarant was not crowded; there was only one other couple dining when we arrived. The time was about 4:30 in the evening, well before the dinner crowd. We were seated immediately. We ordered our drinks and got them promptly, and the waitress brought out rolls for us, which were delicious and had a great texture. Unfortunately, the experience went downhill from there. I ordered a sausage hoagie with fries. My wife ordered the lasagna. We waited for well over 35 minutes for our food to come out. This was especially puzzling, since they undoubtedly had the lasagna ready in advance, and the sandwich shouldn't have taken very long to prepare. In the meantime, my wife got a salad. It was mostly greens with a single cherry tomato and a slice of onion. The ranch dressing was good, but the salad itself was sparse. Finally, our food came. First, the lasgana. It was a very small portion, completely drowned in sauce. My wife is not a big eater, but she was disappointed with the diminuitive portion size. And, the amount of sauce was overwhelming. My wife felt as if the excessive amount of sauce was added simply to make the dish look larger. She found the lasagna palatable otherwise. My sandwich contained sausage, peppers, cheese and sauce on a 6" hard roll. Instead of slicing the roll in half and making the sandwich traditionally, they attempted to cut the roll down one side and stuff the ingredients in. The cut was approximately 4" long, meaning there was an inch of bread on either end. Since there wasn't a lot of room for ingredients, the sandwich ended up being mostly bread. There were fries with the sandwich, but again, the portions were small. When I bit into the sandwich, it was excessively hot, to the point that I burned my mouth rather painfully. Since all of the hot ingredients were tucked inside the roll, the sandwich was slow to cool, meaning I had to wait even longer to eat it. It didn't make sense to me that our order took as long as it did, yet this sandwich was so excessively hot when they brought it out. Maybe they nuked it right before serving because it got cold during the 35 minutes that we waited. The sausage in the sandwich didn't seem all that great. "Cafeteria grade" sums it up. It was not particularly flavorful, and tasted somewhat "processed". The cheese, peppers and sauce tasted OK, but the sausage was a letdown. All in all, I can't say that I was impressed by the 88 Restaurant. I would probably eat here one more time in case the first visit was just on a bad night, but if I had a similar experience, I'd probably stay away for good. read more

We were on our way from Pittsburgh to Snowshoe this past weekend and got stuck in the blizzard and ended up staying in the Bicentennial Hotel, which is conveniently connected to the 88. The staff here was SO nice and the food was delicious. If I ever somehow find my way back in Buckhannon, I will certainly stop by for a drink and to say hello to the excellent staff! read more

Co-workers & I were staying there for a business conference overnight & we decided to just eat lunch & dinner there instead of trying to go out--BIG mistake! If this tells you anything, we decided on our 2nd day to go out for lunch--we went to the other end of Buckhannon, sat down & ate, & came back to the hotel in less time than it took us to get our food at both meal times the previous day! I guess I should be surprised, considering the hotel itself leaves a lot to be desired....no plans to return unless I have to go back for work & they FORCE us to stay there. read more

Came here for a few beers and a a bite to eat with a customer. Place looked kind of old and the decor was a little tired. The service was friendly. We sat at the bar and Treasure waited on us. No complaints there. My business partner ordered chicken fingers and fries, and i ordered a pork bq sandwich. It wasnt really that busy, yet our food took almost 45 minutes to come out. My friends chicken fingers were huge and looked really tasty which he confirmed. I bit into my sandwich with high hopes only to be dissapointed.... It tasted like BBQ pork out of a can....if there is such a thing?? It was not good at all. Price was in line I guess. 4 beers and two plates of food. They werent meals, but i guess you could say it was food. About $40. After we left, I started to feel sick. I had to rush back to my hotel and void my system of whatever it was I ate.. The only thing that was cool about this place was I met Joe Montana in the lobby. I wont be in any hurry to go back, but this is probably one of the better places to go in the big metropolis of Buckhannon. read more

Great place for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. I love this restaurant! The food is amazing, the atmospher is comfortable and relaxing. Every Friday night they have live music. You can't get a better selection for mixed drinks than at the 88 bar in the large town of Buckhannon. The prices are a bit high but you definitely get what you pay for. read more

The pictures on here are misleading. The restaurant is elegant but not in a ritzy way. The prices are reasonable and the portions are just right. You enjoy the meal without over eating. This food quality of this place is really going down hill. I have been extremely disappointed with my meal each time going there for the last few months. The baked steak was tough, potatoes were cold and under cooked, green beans were cheap flavorless, from a can. Also while I'm at it, the rolls were stale and and tasted freezer burnt. For the high price of this place you would think they would try a little harder to give customers some quality and bang for their buck...p.s a tablespoon is NOT a soup spoon and a teaspoon is NOT a tablespoon. Went to the 88 for a family birthday dinner on a Tuesday evening. Food and staff were exceptional! Buffalo dip and the meat loaf are both off the charts! Have a special occasion to celebrate? I can be an a**hole. But only when treated like one. And this is how the staff at 88 Restaurant in this hotel treated us. Terrible service. My co-worker and I ordered burgers at 7:45 on a Tuesday night. Over 45 minutes later, with the place all but dead, nothing. I told my co-worker I was leaving, tired of waiting, cancel MY burger with Emily and stay and enjoy his but charge the remaining tab to my room. I return 30 minutes later to find that she didn't cancel my order, charged my co-worker full tab for everything and complained that even with my card on file, she couldn't charge anything to my room. I asked her in person to refund the entire check to my co-worker (who paid cash because she wouldn't charge it to my room) and charge it to my room. She said she didn't have time to do that (even though the dump was dead) and then asked me if I wanted her to call the police. Really????? Beyond rude!!! Avoid this sh*t hole at all costs. read more
