I've been looking for a place close to home for facials, and my friend referred me to Lina at 818 Skincare. I booked two treatments: the Signature Facial and Warm Algae Wrap. I enjoyed the body wrap, but it was the facial that did it for me--I absolutely loved it! She spent a good amount of time massaging my face...it was so nice that I almost dozed off. Lina took the time to analyze and assess my skin condition, then explain things to me. I really liked her attention to detail. She recommended a couple of products, but there was no pressure to buy...she even gave me free samples. I ended up buying the moisturizer she recommended (Dermalogica Active Moist), and I'm glad I got it. 818 Skincare is located inside E.T. Beauty Supply. The microdermabrasion part was pretty short and so were the extractions. ...all in all, not worth $40. I expected a way more thorough facial. I found this place while searching for spas that accept Spa Finder gift certificates, as I happened to find that I had some hidden in a book I hadn't touched since last year. Long story short, Lina was great. Her website details her services (the differences between bikini, playboy, brazilian, and full monty) and she's open to discussion and very knowledgable. I went in for waxing but she also does facials and microdermabrasion. Speaking of waxing, though I'm partial to the sugar-waxing, Lina does a great job with the regular wax. Lina was very friendly, and after reviewing my skin survey and taking a look at my skin, she suggested a few things that would help my skin. She told me all about the products she was using and how they each would help my skin's appearance. I've been there about 5 or 6 times and every experience is great. The room where she takes care of you is a small, dim-lit, intimate room. There's calming music and the bed is heated. She helps you relax and starts the facial. Everything, from washing your face to putting on moisturizer is a very relaxing experience, like mini massages. At times I have been so relaxed that I doze off into a 10-15 minute nap that feels like a 2-3 hour nap. She always knows what will help your specific concerns, and sometimes even offers a complimentary treatment that will help. I only come to visit O.C. twice a year to see my family, so I figured "what do I have to lose?" I purchased a Groupon for microdermabrasion and finally got around to using it. When I first arrived I was dubious as the place was very small and the door was locked. I knocked and was met by Lina who apologized for not having the door open and introduced herself. Lina directed me to a small private room which was dimly lit, smelled good, and had soothing music/nature sounds on. The microdermabrasion was not uncomfortable and Lina took her time making sure I was relaxed and soothed. She also spent time massaging my face with a mini-facial and even massaged my shoulders and put lotion on my hands. Lina is awesome! I get the mircoderm facial and get so many compliments on my skin weekly. People say how refreshed my skin is, how young I look, etc. It's not only the compliments but it's how healthy and refreshed my skin is after every visit... she really knows how to cater to your skincare needs. I had a big cystic acne on my chin that had just come in and Lina was able to decrease the size of it and by the following day, the acne was gone! I was amazed. This review is based solely on the customer service as I have not actually been in to receive an actual service. I sent an email to inquire about a facial. Over a week went by with no response. I decided to email again amd I did receive a response that day but I was told I should have my skin inspected before going through with this facial. But then that was it...no follow up to that. She didn't ask me to call or ask when a good time to come in. I would never treat a potentially new client like that. I would be very enthusiastic and invite them to come in or offer to help make an appointment. I then booked my appointment and purchased my Groupon. Lina (the owner) canceled my appointment for me by sending me a system generated email saying that I had canceled it. I called her confused and she told me that she had canceled it and made a few excuses about how she had meant to block out the space but hadn't gotten around to it and no she had not intended to use the cell phone I left to call me and let me know. She told me that if this was a problem I should tell Groupon and get my money back because she was booked. Lina is so kind and professional! I have been going to her for hydrafacials, which are AMAZING!!!!! Forget lasers, chemical peels, etc... this treatment is great for the skin and won't leave it sore or red, absolutely no downtime. Her prices are very reasonable, especially for such an effective treatment. It is my one splurge for my skin! I am booking waxing services next, let's see how that goes! I'm excited to try it out. The downside is she doesn't have an assistant and doesn't always answer the phone or get back to you right away, but she does eventually. Honestly, her customer service is great, she is just focused on one person at a time, and I really appreciate that (compared to other places I've tried). I recommend her 100%.
