Let me tell you the reviews are all true. Spent four hours with Chuck and was disappointed. We came with no expectation but you can tell captain obvious is sick of tourists. The deck hands were polite but the captain Chuck is a joke. He was mean, condescending, and shouldn't be in the business if he didn't want to take people fishing. As a seasoned fisherman, his patience was cut short with everyone and you can tell he was annoyed. We had a full boat for an 11am morning of fishing and only four fish were caught. I know it's the luck of the draw but captain has to use his brain, knowledge of fishing this area, and know when to move when nothing is biting. Compliments to the deck hands for wanting to help and being courteous. But I see this business sinking fast if they can't get it together. I don't like writing bad reviews because I know there's off days and also businesses do need the good reviews to stay in business. I will make this a fair review according to my experience. BOOKING I booked bottom fishing for my boyfriend and I. My boyfriend is a very experienced fisherman and I just wanted to get him on a boat. I didn't know about deep ocean fishing or anything about fishing. So this was a great opportunity for me to know fishing as well. We are also visiting from Sacramento California. (I was Born raised in Hawaii) SO I'm not a stranger to the culture. Booking online was easy and it went smoothly. I got a receipt by email and confirmation reminders. So that was nice. FEEDBACK FROM PREVIOUS CUSTOMERS We met a guy prior to the fish trip. They all had a great time and they even bought another trip after being on the same boat the day before. So my boyfriend and I were looking forward to it. SANITATION Best to go bathroom/restroom before this trip. There's no soap on board. That's why I brought liquid soap in my purse. Yah that's a tip...bring your own soap or those liquid sanitizers. There's none on the boat. CAPTAIN INTERACTION The captain was pretty straight forward. I understand that he's handling a lot of people on his boat and safety is something that's VERY IMPORTANT. He is a little abrasive in his presentation. TOURISTS There were about half of the customers on the boat are Japanese Tourists. We all know we are all there to have a good time and also some of us has never fished before. He was too abrasive with especially the Japanese Tourists. He yells at them and even kind of slaps them on the shoulders. I don't know if it's because he is frustrated with the language barrier but man if those Japanese understood English, I think they would be very offended. Even just his mannerisms were too abrasive to English speaking people. What I find FUNNY FOR THE CAPTAIN.....in Japan.....customer service is like 100% amazing. I can bet those Japanese tourists knows the experience was awful. He needs to go Japan and see how they are like there because it's shameful how he treats Japanese tourists. OUR EXPERIENCE I have to say the captain would come to my boyfriend after he reels in the state fish Trigger Fish Humuhumunukunukuapuaa and then tries to take the hook out.....to my horror.....he is so much in a hurry that he leaves the hook in the mouths of the fishes and throws them back into the ocean. What a horrible horrible thing to do to fishes. My boyfriend is a Fish Biologist that works for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife. So he spends a great deal taking care of wildlife and fishes. He respects fishes a great deal. He was bothered that the release was with still hooks in the mouths of the fishes. Because those fishes would lose appetite and probably will not eat much anymore. They will eventually die from not eating. Poor fishes. What I didn't like is the captain kept yanking the fish from my boyfriend's hand and not even gave us the chance to take a photo of my boyfriend carrying the fish. When the captain asked where we were both from, he laid off on the abrasiveness and he didn't yank the fish from my boyfriend anymore. He left us both alone for the most part of the trip. EATING WHAT YOU CATCH It wasn't our preference to eat. We tasted the trigger fish but my boyfriend felt bad. I guess my boyfriend doesn't like the idea to eat fishes that are not known or not popular for like eating. The humuhumu...is very cute looking fishes. Oh well I guess you can eat it. RECOMMENDATION? At the end of the trip the captain placed a tip jar in front of everyone and asked for TIPS. My boyfriend and I rolled our eyes looking at each other and hurried off the boat. Would I recommend it? If you are blissfully ignorant by not noticing the yelling and abrasiveness then go on this trip. If you don't mind hurting fishes by leaving hooks in their mouths then go. You have to be blissfully ignorant to not notice these details. read more

You get what you paid for. My son wanted to try fishing so I wanted to try something easy and short. We got there on time, checked in, and when we got on the board we got a small snack. We were taught how to fish and I caught 2. The fish we caught are shared. They grill them and it is too salty. Don't expect anything gourmet. It was fun. I enjoyed it. read more

Just finished an awesome fishing trip for novice fishermen. Saw a good deal for 2 on Groupon so decided to add this activity to our itinerary during our Oahu vacation. When we first got on the boat they fed us rice, chili and a hotdogs. Water & juice beverages were provided as well. Captain Chuck and deckhand, Kalani, were an awesome team! *2 thumbs up* Captain Chuck drove out to a few spots making sure everyone caught fish. And YES we all did! Mostly catch & release but it was fun. Kalani was attentive running around assisting us novice fishermen remove the fish from the hooks. Towards the end of our trip they BBQ'd our freshly caught fish. 2 meals, 1 trip, caught plenty of fish within 4 hrs was such a good deal! I must admit, I very interested in negative reviews but not so much the positive ones. So the negative reviews for 808955Fish had me concerned. I am here to say I did not experience any of the negative comments in other reviews. Today's bottom fishing trip was perfect. The crew was very helpful, patient and accommodating. There were beginner fishermen and fisherwomen of all ages that had a great time. The captain went to three separate locations to make sure everyone was getting bites and or catching fish. All equipment was provided and worked well, cut up bait included. Lunch provided was appropriate for the surroundings however no soft drinks. Only water. The boat was full, 41 guests but it never felt overcrowded. I personally caught 5 fish, all keepers. My son caught 1. This was for a 3.5 hour fishing trip. With about an hour of no fishing due to the boats engine on and commuting to and from fishing spots, docks. I also overheard the crew giving detailed info about all fish caught and their underwater environments. Good stuff for kids and adults. I only wish I would have brought a beer aboard. My only recommendations are to bring a small pair of needle nose pliers to remove the hooks from the fish's mouth. Makes it easy! I went for a groupon that was 44$ person. ***BEWARE Not the type of big fishing charter you'd enjoy, save your money and look elsewhere, their other poor reviews are true*** Upon arrival, we met captain tiger, his wife and their dog Yorkie. There was a hot pot of coffee, pastries, orange slices and apples slices. Had I known there was breakfast I wouldn't have purchased a spam breakfast from McDonald's. We were advised not to wear our shoes into the galley at first, but one of our guys took off his shoes and felt how sticky the carpeting was. They then decided to let us wear our shoes and explained that they were filming on the boat for the past month and the crew had messed a lot of things up. We were here on a bachelor party and there were only 8 of us. It took the captain 30 minutes to get the lines rigged up when it should have already been set up before going out. He spent a significant portion of that time untangling lines from the last time they went fishing with this boat. After a 2 hour nap I took (out of 4 hours), we caught our 2nd fish, a skipjack tuna, which was worth of keeping. After watching the captain and his wife bicker a bit, they switched roles and captain tiger gaffer the fish and drained the blood. When helping him bring in the fish and unhooking it, he commented about getting blood on the deck. Are you serious? We're fishing...of course there will be blood. This was strike one but were nice people and don't make it a big deal. If you're serious about fishing, don't go on this boat, "e-sea rider". So during the entire time we were on this boat, captain tiger was busy taking phone calls for his other boats. "$150 for the dinner...would you like us to pick you up from your hotel". Idk about you but he was obviously focused on getting us fish. There was a bite that we got that cut the fishing line. If the drag was set right and the knots were tired correctly I don't think this would have been the case, however, he went on to blame us for losing the fish. The attitude of this guy is nothing we have ever experienced. But wait, there's more. He asked us 8 ethnic (obviously Asians) if we liked to eat sashimi as if we didn't know what sashimi was. That's like asking if you like filet mignon. I don't know whether or not we should be offended, probably, given that we're fishing. When it came time to filet the fish, he filleted it into about 4 large charges. 1 chunk was served to us drenched in soy sauce and some wasabi. The other chunks were nicely put away in the fridge and not the ice chest. We arnt stupid, if he had put the other chunks of fish into the ice chest then we would know it was for us, but putting it in his personal fridge in the galley was obvious he wanted to pull one on us. We paid to fish and keep the fish, not just to give it away. He never even said a word about keeping the fish for himself, he just put it away like it was part of the deal, a joy ride on the boat and 1/4 of the sashimi for $1800. We waited until the very end to give him the benefit of the doubt and hand us the bag of fish on his own, but it wasn't until we were docked and asked for it did he take it out. We caught three fish total and he even asked if we want the 2 small ones as well. So not only was he going to take the 3 slabs of sashimi, he was gong to take the two smaller fishes, all without asking us whether or not we wanted them. If you're looking for a boat for air conditioning in the galley just to be on a boat ride, this is a good pick for you. If you're into fishing for game and eats, don't waste your money and save yourself the frustrations. We paid $1800 + tip. Then we get a smart comment from him as he waived our $100 pity tip in the air and announces to his wife that we are generous tippers. For the record, we had $200 in the other pocket, contingent on giving the fishes we caught back to us without us having to ask for it. Lesson learned, if you receive poor service, don't bother tipping. You'll just get a smart comment from captain tiger. I suppose I'll make this a constructive review by recommending that you hire two real deck hands that'll offer decent service. Just read a few more of your past reviews... Whoever is responding to your poor reviews, I have nothing against you, but responding defensively to your poor yelp reviews is not helping your business. Take your responses offline, just my two cents. You mentioned to your past customer, "You chose the cheapest fishing tour in Hawaii...you didn't choose big game trolling." Well, we chose big game trolling and didn't expect deckhands working other jobs and keeping our catches. Hope y'all enjoyed the fishes you kept from us. This was probably the worst excursion we have ever invested in while on vacation to Hawaii. We have done just about every excursion you can imagine in the 3 times we have visited. Do NOT waste your money. We booked an evening bottom fishing excursion for our family of 4. First off, we called ahead and made a reservation several days in advance and asked all the questions we had. Upon arriving early as instructed, the crew was no where to be found. They actually showed up 30 minutes AFTER the boat ride was supposed to start. So we were waiting for over an hour since we were instructed to get there early to pay in cash. We waited in a super long and unorganized line to get checked in. They couldn't find our names on their reservation list, but then after 5 or so minutes they found it... laughed and explained that someone "butchered" our last name so he couldn't find it. Then, I paid cash for the 4 of us. He charged us more than we had agreed to over the phone. On the phone he said we would get a discount if we paid for 4 adults in cash. Then, even with this "new" price, after getting on the boat I realized he shorted me $8 of my change. I was frustrated and did not want to deal with them so I decided not to say anything. Now we are on the boat. They gave a crummy explanation of how to bottom fish, and bottom fishing is not as much fun as they advertised on their Groupon. It was so boring, and like only 1 person caught any fish. The captain and crewman were super rude the entire time to everyone they encountered. Want some examples? 1. An older lady caught a shark on accident. The crew man yelled at her, and was being so loud and rude to her because her line broke and he had to help her. He was barking orders at her and not actually using his words to explain anything to her. 2. They were making fun of the customers that were on board. Literally, making fun of their own customers! 3. My husband wanted to switch his left hand pole to a right hand pole, went to the center of the boat as instructed, but did not place it on the table. He got yelled at and they were also rude by saying "someone doesn't follow instructions." 4. They gave us 1 cup of bait for 5 people to use. We ran out and again, they yelled at us and told us to walk around the boat to borrow bait from someone else. The boat was super rocky and I almost fell while searching for bait. FYI, everyone else was out of bait too. 5. There was NO hand soap on the boat. Not even in the bathrooms. How disgusting is that? People are using restrooms and not using soap, and then touching these community fishing poles. The crew and captain were so rude I didn't even want to ask about this. 6. Barely no fish were caught, so therefore we did not eat the scrapes that were grilled. 7. The old man next to us almost fell over board, he did actually fall down, and no one helped him or checked on him except for me and my husband. 8. You make your customers feel like crap! Be nice! Your customers are who keeps you in business. Don't like tourists? Don't work on a tourist attraction boat. This is not worth the money. We stopped fishing 3/4s of the way through our time. My husband felt sick after eating their mini hot dog and chili spread (which I refused to eat.) bottom line, spend a little more money and do a different fishing trip OR different excursion all together. read more

Don't let the reviews fool you- this is an awesome day with friends. We got a deal from living social and made a day of it. Chuck and Chris took care of us and from the beginning mentioned that it would be a chill time. What many fisherman know is that it depends on the day, the moon, and the tide- we get it. As we set out the ride was nice. The water reflected the most amazing hues of blue. I felt like we were on a friend's boat, as Chris dished out some chili, hot dogs, and rice. When we got to the first stop they did a fishing101- it wasn't rocket science, but the info is important for 1st timers. We all threw the lines in. Hana Pa! I got one. My wife didn't... BUT we tried 4 more time. The boat will make 4 stops. At the third stop I caught 2 fish at 1 time. I thought I caught Oahu, but to my surprise it was 2 medium size fish, about 7 inches. My wife caught nothing, but she is more of the movie goer versus outdoor fun. As we made our way back Chris fired up the grill and we got to eat the freshly caught fish. I loved it. This review is for evening bottom fishing. Fishing experiences always vary, that being said you will not be going to a spot known for amazing fishing. Can you catch Snapper, Mahi Mahi, and Ahi? Yes of course, you can also win the lottery some day. Will you catch those things??? It's fishing. What you will catch is some great views of Waikiki and Diamond Head. Depending on the season and weather the sunset from the boat can be amazing. Depending on your personality you may find the crew fun or obnoxious. They do cover all the safety procedures on the boat and grill up the catch, whatever it may be They also rig all the poles even when the lines break. You will be baiting your own hooks, and there's a place to wash your hands on the boat. Would I do this again? For the right price and type of person this can be a fun time. Note: this was a Groupon purchase and we had to pay $2 more per person for tax when we checked in. I've never experienced that with Groupon. read more

My son and I took the night bottom-fishing trip twice 2 weeks ago. The 1st trip was fun, plenty of bait, etc. I'm rating the 2nd trip which I sent Capt Tiger a message on the issues we encountered and no response. We went out, on the evening trip. Keeping in mind that we paid $112 for the trip. Initially we were told to not lose the weights because they didn't have a supply. We are not professional fisherman. Hook, line and sinker break off - just happens when reef fishing. At about 2/3rds way through the trip Kalani stated we were out of cut bait - how does a business that's been in the business of taking people fishing run out of bait? Then the rice and hotdogs were terrible. For stops for fishing the announced time never was kept. Always 5-10 minutes short. From the 35 passengers only 12 got fish, half of them were not approved by crew. The water was so clear, when the boat stopped we could hardly see any fish. When they picked us up they picked up other people too and there was plenty of space. And picked up other people nearby. On the boat lunch was served and consisted of a hot dog rice with chili and pineapples, it was crap. The fishing was a joke, they used very small hooks and really really really small bait. There was no way you can catch anything big. The only fish that was caught was the size of your hand. At the end the fish was thrown on a grill and cooked to a crisp. I found what seemed like a good groupon for the dinner cruise for 2. After reading the fine print, I see a map with the phone # and it states that the business is open until 1am. We thought it was kind of odd but we wanted to try and book for the next day so we called at 10pm. We had a great time on the boat and the value is excellent. To be honest I was leery due to all the other low and negative reviews on here. My guess is many thought this would be a deep sea fishing excursion, it not and those excursions cost a lot more if you are going for big fish. If you want a fun few hours fishing with your own pole then this is for you and kiddos too. You drop a line and it's fun to see what is caught..all sorts of fish that are unlike what you catch in a lake,lol. What is awesome is they will grill the catch on the way back for all to taste, awesome to eat fish that fresh and try new fish. These guys work hard to help out and you will need to hook your own bait. For the price its awesome to get out on the water. This was the cheapest adventure we had and ended up being one of the best for us since we like fishing and gave the family a feel for ocean fishing. read more

I was skeptical based on other reviews but this turned out to be exactly what we were looking for. We booked the bottom fishing expedition at noon and had a wonderful time with our 14, 12 and 9 year old. We were out there for a good 3 hours and the captain took us to four different spots. Multiple people on the boat caught fish including ours-thank goodness. The captain even tossed a line out and had the kids reel in the fish. It does help to have some prior knowledge of fishing as there are multiple people on the boat and only two staff members to help but if you can follow simple instructions and don't mind getting your hands dirty you will be ok. We even had grilled fish at the end from what someone caught on our trip. We would 100% book this again if we came back to the island. read more

808955FISH also known as SUNSET DINNER CRIUSE is a joke! It's $50 bucks a person for cheap steak and shrimp "dinner"! The "entertainment" is Hawaiian music played from a iPod, while you are encouraged to drink Booze! The boat is in pretty rough condition, hasn't been cleaned in quite a while. The good news is you do get to see you pretty cool view of downtown Honolulu, and if you ride on this on the Friday night, there's a Firework display, put on by city of Honolulu! The food is served cold, one plate - no seconds! Entertainment is so-so... There's some was dancing one guy that plays with a fire sword, on the other guy does a fire knife trick - which wasn't too bad, just very low end. I would not recommend this Cruise this to anybody! Spend a little more money, you'll get a nicer boat and better food and entertainment. read more

The smoking on the boat was terrible and made the passengers more ill than just seasickness. Crew members smoked and passengers smoked cigarettes and cigars. It made me so nauseous. The captain was quite rude to me and my teenage daughter after she got sick. Since she didn't make it to the side of the boat and instead used the garbage can, he said "we weren't listening". I said "She is sick - not that we can't listen" Then he said "now we all have to smell it". Zero compassion from Chuck. Deckhand Duke was very nice in comparison and helpful with my daughter who was sick for 4 hours. The van used for transportation reeked of cigarette smoke as well. 955FISH is my go to with all visitors!!! I can't wait to go back with my group of friends this week!!! The boat is perfect for seeing the Waikiki coastline and getting to experience fishing. I had never gone fishing is hawaii before and the captain and first mate taught me everything I needed to know about fishing. We got to eat everything we caught and we were able to bring a cooler on the boat and enjoy the outdoor vibes of hawaii. This was a fun trip and a great diversion from the usual hotel routine. The crew is great and helps you catch fish. Of course, there's no guarantee, but they really try. A lunch is prepared right on the boat. They cooked up one of the large snappers that was caught and we ate it on the return ride. I enjoyed it so much that I signed up for another trip next week for my brother who is coming to Hawaii for a visit. read more

First off, understand you get what you pay for. For the awesome price, you can't beat this. They provide you with bait, poles, and instructions. The lunch is meager, so be advised, bring snacks. I wouldn't suggest expecting to catch a Whopper, but you never know! Between four people we caught 7 fish and had so much fun. Even if you don't catch anything, the ride around the harbor/beach area alone is worth the price. It's beautiful. Also, talk to Nate! He's the shipmate from our trip and he's so awesome. Super helpful and he makes sure you're happy. I highly recommend this bottom fishing trip. read more

I took my two sons on this trip - first ocean fishing trip for them. I prepped them to not catch fish (which we didn't) the only guy catching fish was the guy who brought his own poles and bait. We made 4 short stops and I am not even sure the captain was trying to find any fish. I hoped for a fun experience and got neither. The crew was neither friendly nor fun. I had to help people around me who didn't know anything about fishing. I expected to assist my kids but didn't realize I would be helping others because there were too many people on the boat for a crew of two to help. The "Hawaiian BBQ" consisted of rice, a hotdog, and some hormel chili. Super disappointed. The ad was misleading if you ask me. Two stars because it was easy to book, boat was nice, and it was kid friendly. With the exception that the captain drove the boat with his feet and smoked cigarettes the whole time. Sadly, I don't think my kids will request a fishing trip again. No fun. No music. No good food. And no fish. read more

This is the fishing boat to go on when in Honolulu/Waikiki! We live on island and will always go out with these guys. Whenever we have guests in town or just feel like going fishing ourselves, we call 955-FISH!!! Looking forward to going out with them tonight! Cap'n Tiger is the best! read more
