Got picked up on time at the ambassador. Bus driver was not very happy because he had to go less than a block away to pick up a confused couple. He needs a vacation or attitude adjustment. Turns out he was driving the boat too!! I missed the meal and drink cause I was on the bow enjoying the scenery. Barbecue was just a weenie with sauce on rice! We fished with little hooks. We did not go out far in the water. We could see Diamond head and Waikiki beach the whole time. Not much action on the boat. Had an AWESOME time on the Sashimi II with Amber and Hayley (so sorry if I spelled that wrong)! Very knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful! We were able to do exactly what we wanted to and caught a few different kinds of fish for dinner. They gave some advice on cooking them and let us ask a million questions while watching the fish get cleaned. Couldn't have asked for a better boat crew. Girl power!! We look at all the boat around here, we decided to go with Sashimi Fun Fishing despite some of the odd reviews on Yelp. I'd rather go with my gut instinct, and I'm glad we did. For only $56 with some discount from the booklet, we RSVP for HALF DAY fishing. They pick you up at the location, but we didn't need a ride, we came straight here. Started out around Noon and came back to the dock around 3 PM. Sashimi II boat is about 60 feet long, big, spacious ad we were lucky only 10 guests on this trip. We got to see the beautiful Waikiki shores, the Diamond Head, surfers try to catch the waves, people that were parasailing, and the best of all we saw WHALES :-) I didn't know that they serve you a plate of food too: rice, hotdog, baked bean and pineapple. The captain doesn't talk much, but his helper, this cute guy, gave us plenty of baits all afternoon, unlike other Yelp reviews here, so inaccurate! After an hour, only a few of us caught some fishes, the captain moved toward the Diamond Head, then every one caught some fishes: Lots of Triggefishes, Yellow Lipped Triggerfish, Lai, Akule, Nabeta, and Ta'ape. I was busy sunbathing and soaked up the beautiful sun of December while my friends are stand on their feet for 3 hours to catch some fishes! It was fun, beautiful weather, and you can BYOB here. What a lovely day it was, we would totally do it again. I wonder why Yelpers complain it's expensive, really? Even the Booze Cruise at Waikiki Beach is already $25 for 1 hour ride, here you got to do a whole lot more, 3 hours ride, food, baits, fishing for $56? read more

My wife and i almost fell asleep . Not very fun , fishing like on the fisherman warf but at least you get to cast it. This was drop the bait to bottom . No casting !!!! Deckhand and captain pretty rude and not that friendly kinda yelled at one of the customer for almost dropping his pole. Also it was all cheap fishing pole you can buy at Walmart for 20 bucks!! Better off buying some fishing pole from walmart and fishing off a dock. They so called BBQ lunch is grilled hotdog and chilli over rice , a meal like for homeless people to eat . Lol !!! I have mixed feeling about this place so I gave it 3 stars - an OK experience. Here are the things that made our trip a lot less enjoyable (hopefully this will be taken as a constructive criticism to make some improvements): 1. When people are late, everyone should NOT be punished. Not sure how many people we had on board, may be 20, but we had to wait for a couple who were late. In other places we've tried for various activities they warn everyone that they should check in 15 minutes before departure or they will miss their trip. When I was late for a boating trip at Kualoa ranch, they called me when I did not check in on time and said they have to reschedule me which was OK. 2. The sunset fishing is from 5 pm to 9 pm. When it says an activity starts at 5, that's when it should start. However they start checking in everyone at around 5:10 pm (last year same thing happened). 3. Smokers should be asked to stay at the back of the boat. We had 2 little kids with us and there was a group of people on our right that kept drinking beer and constantly smoking and exposing all of us to a second hand smoking. 4. Not sure if the trip was overbooked or what (captain did mention we were tight on space that time) but we couldn't move away anywhere from that smoking group of people because of no space. A lot of fishing poles got tangled resulting in less time fishing and possibility of catching the fish. 5. The sitting is very limited so if you aren't first to check in, run to the boat and hold onto it, you will be standing most of the time. My kids and I arrived early but we were standing in line on the wrong side apparently so we ended up moving all the way to the back of the line. By the time we were checked in and got to the boat all the seats were taken. I don't really need it but it's be nice for my 2 young children to sit during this many hours fishing adventure. PLEASE let those with kids to have those seats, not those who ran there first. 6. The captain and the crew are nice but they need to be a little bit better with customer service and problem solving. When we asked to give us only 2 seats and 2 fishing poles even though we paid for 4 (we just wanted our children to have 2 seats next to us, we didn't mind standing although it is not optimal of course) we were made fun of, not listened to which was totally awkward and uncomfortable. This was not the captain, but the other guy I didn't catch his name. I enjoy a good humor but not 24/7, there are times when people should be taken seriously. Thankfully there was a very nice couple who gave us their seats when they saw us struggling. 7. The adventure says fishing and BBQ. It's nice they give you a grilled hot dog and rice chili because when you get on board around 5-6 pm you start feeling hungry (happened every time) so this is REALLY thoughtful. However I didn't realize that if you don't catch any fish you don't get to eat any that they grill on board. The 1st time we went some people didn't catch any but some caught several so it was just grilled and shared. But this time we only caught 5 (6?) tiny fish and only those who caught 1 were eating. That was terrible as we sat there and smelled the tasty fish we couldn't touch and watching others eat..... To avoid this, there needs to be extra fish in the freezer just for days like this so everyone can enjoy or at least try the BBQ. 8. The instructions were clear and brief but there was no follow up after this, not really. If someone asked a question they'd help, otherwise you can do a wrong thing all night long and noone is gonna tell you anything. They really need to walk around and watch what people are doing and correct them a little here and there. This way people would get tangled less, catch each other fishing poles less and actually catch some fish. I was told at the very end that I shouldn't move my fishing pole up and down even though that's what captain instructed us to do in the beginning of the trip so that our hooks would not get caught at the rocks on the bottom. However one of his helpers told me you aren't going to catch any fish by doing that (about 10 minutes before we started heading back, so I was doing the wrong thing all night). 9. People were warned that if they do get seasick to take it overboard. It was very windy and choppy, I can't imagine anyone doing that.... This one poor kid was very sick the entire time and she was hugging the trash can located in the middle of the boat in front of everyone..... Their first aid kit needs to have some anti-nausea orally dissolvable medication (those that are taken before flying and/or those mints that help with nausea during the trip). Also those little bags that are available on the plane for everyone in case someone gets sick so that people can have a little more privacy when they get sick. If this business wants to service more tourists and get better consistent positive reviews online, they needs to improve a few things mentioned above. read more

We had a great time on this fun trip. My wife is brand new to fishing but caught two fish on her first cast! This is a fun boat trip off Diamond Head with the added excitement of catching fish. Captain and deckhand Duke worked hard to get 30 of us boarded, briefed and ready to fish. Take some Dramamine if you are susceptible to seasick as the ocean is rolling but never bothered us. I purchased a Groupon for a bottom fishing experience for two. Most of the reviews sounded pretty good and I was so excited about this adventure. First things first, I called to make a reservation not really thinking about the time difference. I live in TX so there is a 6 hr time change. Apparently I called prior to business hours and a man answered rudely and told me I needed to call back during business hrs and hung up in my face! I'm thinking someone needs to invest in an answering service! Anyway I called back later and made the reservation. Oh btw he informed me of a $7pp parking fee at the harbor. Again no biggie. My husband and I arrived on time and found a spot with paid parking, I believe it was $5 for the day. Also the advertisement mentioned free hotel pickup but was never offered this option. After a brief wait a Company van with a lot of foreign visitors pulled up and began unloading. The man that checked us in did so fairly quickly but on top of the Groupon he wanted $14 bucks. When asked why and that we paid for parking he said it was for harbor taxes and stuff!! Well okay, seems strange. We paid as I'm sure many people do just to get going. Overall we had a blast! Our group caught so many fish that we didn't need the hotdog bbq that was offered. Every one had fresh fish for lunch which was awesome. I will give kudos to the first mate that was helping filet fish and cook food! He was cool as hell!!! Overall we had a great time despite the initial rudeness and sneaky fees. This was my first time fishing ever. Hanging out with friends and enjoying the scenery is what gets this 2 stars. The boat captain was 30 minutes late, luckily he made it up by staying 30 minutes later on the water. The included lunch was, just like everyone says, a weiner, some rice, and watery chilli poured over the whole mess. The rods and reels were definately old and rusty but they worked so /shrug. We hit 3 different fishing spots and they were not good spots. Plenty of experienced fishers on the boat didn't even get a bite. Almost 25 people on the boat with lines in for hours and a total catch of under 10 fish for 4 hours? They did grill the biggest catch for everyone too eat. My group did the bottom fishing tour on Friday night. I saw this tour on Groupon and decided to give it a try. We were picked up and dropped off at our hotels which was a great additional service! Before departing we were offered hotdogs, rice and chili. There was also water. I'm not sure if the food was good or not as I decided not to eat in case I got seasick (which I didn't, YAY!) Once out fishing people started getting bites right away and a few of us including myself caught and released some fish. It was a good time. Even if we didn't fish or if it was a slow day of not catching anything the trip would have still been worth it. You get to have amazing views of Waikiki and if you go Friday night you get to watch the sunset and fireworks! Great experience for just you or the whole family! read more

Ehh! This was an okay fishing trip, I guess if I caught more fish I would give it 5 stars. I did catch 2 small fish and my dad caught one. The rod and real was provided. The captain and crew were very helpful. My cons: Kamianna rate is $42 for 4 hour charter, but when you add in rod and reel, and provided lunch (which you can't opt out of) it works out to be the same rate as the tourist coupon price $56. And then $2 to charge it, wtf who walks around with $56 cash any more. The $7 lunch which is provided and mandatory is chili, rice and hot dog. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind chili, rice and hot dog. But on a boat, when people were getting sea sick from the start. I think I watched at least 4 peoples chili, rice and hot dog go overboard along with there breakfast. I felt bad for those that were sea sick, wished I had meds for them. It would have been nice for the crew to support the sick people a little better. Biggest con: Not the much fishing, It was sold as a 4 hour fishing trip. We were scheduled to leave at 12, instead we left at 1230. Boated to our spot, off the Kahala coast, took about an hour. Fished for a bit, moved 3 times and boated back to port. We were in Port before 1530. How the Yelp is that a 4 hour fishing trip? Pros: I got a pretty good tan, a day on a boat is better then most on shore. I brought a few beers, so I got to drink and get tan. Bring your own beer, there is none aboard to buy. The mate grilled up some fish we caught on the way back to the port, that was a nice touch! My kids and I caught a few fish, conditions were super windy. Had a good time till the captain was a dick head to my kid becuase his line got tangled with another kids line due to the wind blowing them together. Windy gust over 25 mph, it was tough on everyone. He didnt have to be a super prick and give the kids attitude. It only happened once surprisingly in that wind. He acted like it was a major inconvenience to him to help get it fixed and all he did was cut the line, then we returned to port, we were done anyway. We had booked a trip for Thursday night and the captain or whomever called and claimed it was "too windy" meanwhile were staying on the water and saw several boats were out on the water and it was not that windy at all. He just seemed like he didn't want to go out. Than we said okay, we'll try for Friday afternoon. He sends us a text at around 7:00 AM Friday morning saying that the weather isn't letting us go out.... It's beautiful outside right now as I'm laying out on bed beach, no rain, and no wind. Terrible charter, they didn't give two shits about customer service. That owner could take a few lessons on hospitality. The boat captain also sucked, he didn't let anyone keep any fish even if they were eating size. He would just make excuses as to why we shouldn't keep them but it was pretty clear that he was just lazy and didn't want to clean them for people to eat. The deckhand was this 12 year old kid who had no idea what he was doing. I didn't see him or the captain offer any fishing advice to anyone. The only time you would see them is when they heard someone caught a fish and that's when they would unceremoniously throw it back. Don't ever use this service. It was a waste of $60. read more

The only reason they get 1 star is because I couldn't leave 0 stars. I went out on a private half day charter with some friends that are stationed in Oahu and it sucked. They wanted to troll and he was going almost full speed trolling. Every time a fish would hook up the line would snap because he was going to fast. The captain could care less about us catching any fish and said maybe 10 words to us the whole time we were on our expensive boat ride. I've gone on charters all over the world and this is the first time I have never left a tip. Rude and very disrespectful don't waste your money with these guys. This was a last minute decision to go fishing so on a whim we decided to try 955-Fish. Their rate ended up being $63/person for a 4 hour trip + lunch on the boat. Also, it looks like that have a shuttle to pick you up from your hotel if needed as well. First off- they were late getting started which I guess isn't surprising when I read through other reviews. The lunch they provide is the same: White rice + Chili + hot dog. It looks like a mess, but it tastes better than expected. You can BYOB which is a big plus! Overall for an impromptu fishing expedition, it was decent . They provide the rods and bait and they give you a quick 5 min demonstration on everything you need to know. My husband caught a fish and I caught my first fish so I think that's a successful day. Nice touch: they grill the fish everyone on the boat caught on the way back to shore so everyone can sample our hard work. You can find fresher seafood than that. read more

I did this same trip in 2007 and it was the same story, the sashimi took off an hour late but came back into port at the stated time. Was not pro-rated. Pretty much one deckhand running the entire ship. My family broke off a few lines and I actually had to rig there poles all by myself. The captain and one of the deckhands just smoked a pack and watched me. Spend the money and take a trip out with a different boat. We had a great fishing trip on 6/26/2017 with Captain Chuck and Nate. We did the afternoon trip and started out with a plate lunch of hot dog, chili, rice, and pineapple. The rod, reel, and bait are provided. The first place that we stopped to fish, we got mostly brown triggerfish that were tossed back. The 2nd and 3rd stops yielded plentiful blue striped snapper, black triggerfish, and other snapper. On the way back, Nate cleaned and cooked them on the grill; they were delicious! BTW, you can BYOB! i was skeptical at first, the captain ran late and the man that took our reservations the day before was pretty unplesant....i was nervous before we got out on the water. once we started out though, the captain gave a good run down of our trip and seemed like a laid back guy. i asked the first mate warren if he planned on trolling on the way out, i said we wouldnt mind helping ;). he set up a line and said if it got hit to call 'fish on' and reel it in. the bbq was basic, but not bad, it fed you and was included in the price. the fishing was good. not sport fishing mind you, but we caught A LOT of smaller fish....all oif which was delicious!. if you dont have your heart set on catching a 1000 lb sail marlin, give this trip a try. it gets the taste of fish in your mouth, bait in your hands and good people to talk too. this was a bargain for 56 buck a pop! read more

This really was a waste of time and money. The boat was full - like 30 people with their poles getting tangled up all the time, you were more likely to catch neighbor's pole than any fish. There was very little fish, maybe 10 people caught some small fish, they threw some fish on the grill as we were debarking off the boat, but at that time nobody cared anymore about trying it. The captain Tiger and his helper - a guy maybe 16 years old - are very unfriendly, the helper used F words even though there were bunch of kids on board. The lunch was pathetic - almost all raw rice and completely burned hotdogs with some store-bought chili - we were spitting it out in the trash. The "Juice" was a colored sugary water. There was nowhere to wash hands even though we were handling raw fish. Awful time! This business should be called 955-NO-FISH. read more

Well, my girlfriend and i were sitting on the couch one morning and I found the 955-FISH add in a pamphlet I picked up somewhere. I suggested we go and we did. We were running late and i was worried we wouldn't make it. when we arrived, the deckhand told us we were waiting on a shuttle to arrive and we would be departing in 10-15 minutes. Once the shuttle got there, 25 minutes later, we paid our fares and boarded the Sashimi II . The boat itself was not much to speak of. Older boat and a 15 foot bench on both sides of the boat for people to sit on. Okay, so we start heading out and I knew the actual fishing wouldn't be that great. We pretty much went on this trip to get off our couch and get some sun and a boat ride. Initially i was impressed with the captain and deckhand. I thought it was really cool when they were speaking Japanese. But that was as impressive as it got. Personally, I didn't need any help with the fishing, rigging, or baiting during this trip. But there was a mother with her two kids, about 7 or 8, and there were times I believe the deckhand could have offered to help. He literally sat there or was on his phone talking to someone about plans later that night or about the surf conditions. Half of the time we ran out of bait, i would cut up a few pieces from the bait that was sitting on the cutting board and get back to fishing. At one point, the captain came out to talk to me and my girlfriend. When he found out we lived here, he looked puzzled as to why we would bother coming on this boat. He then walked back into the wheel house and we didnt see him again til we got to the dock. the deckhand on the other hand, we saw lots of. He was sitting around until we were moving to a different spot and would lift the water chute. Now my review might be a bit harsh, and perhaps it is a bit unfair. I have been on many fishing vessels before on the mainland, mostly California, and might be a bit biased. But one thing I can't tolerate is a lazy deckhand. *Just realized that some one else wrote a review on the same day i did and might have been on the same trip with me.* That being said, me and my girlfriend caught plenty of fish. We both had a great time, enjoyed the scenery, and got our competitive fix for the day! But from now on, I will keep fishing on the beach and off cliffs. If you decide to go on this trip, enjoy the scenery and great weather out on the water. You will catch some fish and probably enjoy it better than walking around the mall. read more

The business allows smoking on the boat. I believe they allow it because they didn't stop the people from smoking. This was driving us nuts. This is not the best boat for children, because of the smoking. One's in the open air and has an opportunity to breathe in some fresh air and there's smoking everywhere, literally during the entire time, while both docked and cruising. The boat left a couple minutes late and we went to two different fishing spots over by diamond head. The deckhand and captain were very helpful with providing bait, untangling lines, and unhooking the fish we caught. If you are looking for big fish, this is not the trip for you. Arrogant captain ruined the experience. Scolded me, was sarcastic, told me and my husband that "you guys don't listen very well!" Loved the trip on the water, the deck hand was helpful and kind. The lunch was small but tasty. The captain had the audacity to ask for a tip at the end. We called the company to let them know about how condescending the captain was and the owner said that we get what we pay for. And that if we wanted really good service we should have paid for a private charter. read more

Amazing!! Talk about one of the best times in my life!! We caught a tuna that was the size of me. (And a few other amazing fish) The captain was totally interactive and great with giving us Newbies advice. This truly made our trip a story to take about from years to come.
