Avoid This Tour - Unprofessional and Poorly Managed I had a very disappointing experience with this fishing tour and would strongly advise others to avoid it. First, the check-in address provided in the confirmation email was outdated. I followed the instructions, took an Uber to the listed location, and only discovered it was wrong after calling the company. I then had to take another Uber to their actual location to make it on time. This kind of logistical error is unacceptable and shows a lack of basic communication. When I finally arrived, I was told I needed to pay an additional $2 due to some law. That would've been fine -- if it had been mentioned anywhere in the confirmation email. Worse, they only accepted cash, or required a minimum $10 purchase to use a card. I didn't have cash on me, and when I asked if I could Venmo, the front desk staff rudely repeated that it was "cash only." When I asked where in the email this was mentioned, he falsely claimed it was included -- but when I showed him the email and asked him to point it out, he avoided the question and repeated the same line. There was no apology, just a cold attitude. In the end, other kind tourists helped us out of the situation -- not the staff. As for the tour itself: the instruction was minimal. When I asked how I would know if there was a bite, I was simply told, "You'll know it," with no further explanation. My fishing spot was poorly placed -- right in the middle of one side of the boat -- and with the wind, my line kept getting blown underneath. I kept recasting, but it didn't help. Eventually, a staff member tried fishing from the same spot and caught nothing either. Clearly, this was a bad spot for fishing in those conditions, but they assigned it anyway. Overall, this tour was disorganized, poorly managed, and left a very bad impression. Save your money and book a tour with a more professional, courteous company. read more

I would like to start by saying that I have never left a Yelp review in my life. But I am starting with this company. First, when I was scheduling this fishing trip, they told us that we would be able to keep some of the fish that we caught, they told me that they would offer a discount once we got there and they gave us the location to meet . We showed up at the meeting location and my family along with three other families were waiting. We called the company and found out that they changed the meeting spot. So we had to walk 30 minutes to the next location which, they said if we didn't make it in time they were going to leave without us, they told us that it was catch and release, and they would no longer offer us a discount. Once we were on the boat there were about 22 people and maybe seven fish were caught, the workers were all fishing instead of trying to help us catch fish. I was very disappointed. read more

If I could give negative stars I would. I received an impersonal AUTOMATED cancellation less than 24 hrs before my 7:30am fishing trip via email. No follow up, no offer to reschedule, NOTHING. I called, emailed, and texted, and to this date no response, NO APOLOGY. NO REFUND. NOTHING. I was a responsible traveler and booked 2 weeks ago, but obviously everything is booked up now. We are leaving in 3 days so we have no chance at all to find a fishing trip. Not that Blue Ocean tried to help connect us with anyone or offered any alternatives. UNPROFESSIONAL, UNCARING, IMPERSONAL, NO ACCOUNTABILITY, NO CUSTOMER SERVICE, NO FOLLOW UP WHATSOVER. I totally understand stuff happens and totally understand if a boat needs unexpected repairs, but it is what they did or rather did not do after which makes this the type of business one tourists should stay away from. If you read other reviews, this is not their first cancellation or repair problem. When you look at Blue Ocean as a whole, you see A PATTERN OF IRRESPONSIBLE BUSINESS BEHAVIOR. FELLOW TOURISTS, IF YOU WANT TO ROLL THE DICE AND RISK NO FISHING TRIP FOR YOUR TIME IN HAWAII, CHOOSE BLUE OCEAN. STEER CLEAR OF BLUE OCEAN CUZ they sure will steer clear of you with their automated, last minute cancellation and no response after they take your money. We have such a wonderful time with Blue Ocean Hawaii's bottom fishing boat trip! Very kids and family friendly. The fishing trip that we booked is 3 hours bottom fishing. And they picked us up in a spot close to our hotel in a shuttle. And our captain, Warren, is very friendly and knowledgable. The ride was very smooth. I was a bit scared that I may get seasick. Not at all. Definitely a very smooth ride. We went fishing in about 4/5 spot. Warren would stop and let us fish for a while then move to another fishing spot. We got to keep the bigger one and let go of the little one. Everyone got fish in our party. My son even got 4!! It's a wonderful trip to so in Waikiki for sure. As for the fish that we got, warren cleaned and cooked it for us! Not the best tasty fish, but definitely fresh!! I will recommend this trip to anyone for sure! read more

This was a fun little trip. It is good for families, kids, and any experienced angler looking to check a few new fish off of their list. The crew was nice, and the boat was clean. The staff was great and friendly but do not expect to come home with any fish. The fish you are working for are basically aquarium fish and nothing you could bring home to eat. The boat was clean and nice and equipment worked well but definitely wish there was more detail on what we were catching or trying to catch. Fishing was slow and only fished inland in about 20' of water with small hooks. Was expecting the ultimate fishing experience and basically got a boat trip to small aquarium fish. Had a great experience fishing with Blue Ocean. They were great and informative on what fish when caught was allowed to keep / get eaten and which ones are obviously a catch and release after a quick photo. They cooked up a few of the ones we caught that planned to eat it there and let others take some home. We were lucky and were out on a good day that pretty much every caught a few fishes each. Highly recommend this for anyone that wants a nice quick fishing trip out in the ocean. read more

Ocean Blue Hawaii is amazing! My mother in law (husband's mother) came to visit us from Texas and we reserved for the 12:30pm-4pm rotation since there's 8am-12pm and 4:30pm-7:30pm. The crew were awesome. Aunty and unka were awesome, both local and the other crew members and driver were both amazing. There was a lot of us on the boat, 41 of us, most not from here and some local (you can tell). We were already provided a fishing pole and lots of bait which they give you a cup full of bait. A few of us caught fishes. We stopped in 5 different spots to fish. Some were shallow and some were deep and since it's Hawaii waters, it was easy to see through the ocean water even while it was deep. Gotta be careful if you bring your kids, they really have to hold on tight or stay seated (dont recommend sitting on railing for kids) as the boat starts going because it's a bumpy ride with all the ocean waves and it's possible they could fall into the water if not careful but no one fell in and there's life vest available that the kids can use. They tell you what they're not responsible for before you board the boat so any kind of purses, phones, or etc...thats all your fault if it goes into the ocean. I mean makes sense...at least it's not like going to Mexico and it's shady and probably don't have any life vest available lol After we caught the fish, uncle (locals call each our elders uncle or aunti or if they're older than us but if they look the same age then we say bruddah or sista...) cooked some of the fish we caught and glazed it with secret sauce which had a spice taste to it. It was so ono (delicious)!!!!!! I recommend going to this tour! It's cheaper if you get your reservations through navy exchange or military. It was exciting and so much fun even for a local like me (filipino hawaiian) and it's probably much more exciting for visitors coming to Hawaii. Cancelled with no notice! We were scheduled for a 3 hour bottom fishing trip on Monday (10/10/22). The day before we received an email reminder & confirmation. Monday morning we arrive early to check in (per the reminder) to find no employees or other passengers. Called their phone number and the lady that answered was surprised and said she would call the boat captain. She called us back and said the boat was down indefinitely for repairs... but also slipped up and said we were the only two passengers. Now we understand that trips like this sometimes require a minimum number of people. But to send a reminder the day before and NOT a cancellation notice is poor service at best. For people trying to maximize their vacation time.... service like this messes up your day. We ended up having to book with another charter later in the week. We are a family of 5 and it's A challenge to do activities with our 4 year old. But man did they make it fun for the whole family. It was about a three hour ride around with five stops at different locations for fishing. We caught multiple fish. After so many we started catching and releasing. Very pushy and unorganized, the captain took my pole when I caught onto a bigger fish and lost the whole line. Then gave me a set up that would not sink down to the fish due to "me" loosing it lol. Do yourself a favor and spend a little more money for a real fishing trip these guys use poles that are not equivalent for ocean fishing unless you wanna catch a half pounder. Plus at the end they stand in front of you with a tip jar and ask for a tip which I thought was a little uncomfortable. Like I said spend a little more for a better experience! read more

I would pick blue ocean every time. Warren, Nalani and Rio were the best crew. (Go Vikings:) It was truly a wonderful experience. All of the passengers were a really fun group as well. Bottom fishing is easy and fun for anyone even with no fishing experience. It was also nice to have the option of fishing during the evening/sunset we didn't see any other companies that offered this in our search. We were looking forward to this for weeks but then they called us 15 minutes before we were scheduled to be there at 4, just as we were sitting in Honolulu traffic trying to get there. Told us the boat was broken (it was hard to understand...the girl who called to tell us sounded like she didn't know what she was talking about). She offered to reschedule us for the next day at 1 but being this was a vacation, we already had other plans booked. She then told us we would be refunded, but then tried refunding only a partial amount of what we were billed (had to call them back to ensure full amount would in fact be refunded). Verrry unhappy here. I called and booked the day before for myself and my two children. I called that morning to make sure we were waiting to be picked up In the correct place. Myself and my two children waited and waited. They never came. I called and there was no excuse, no reason why they forgot us. All the guy said was he didn't know why and if we catch a cab he'll reimbursement us. No apology or anything. The boat was scheduled to leave in 10 min . At that point I didn't even trust them to wait for us. I didn't want to rush and then they are gone when we get . Such an unprofessional organization. This trip came up quite a lot more expensive than another one I saw available (This was $85, the other (1hr longer) bottom fishing trip in Honolulu is $56(with coupon). The boat looked better as were the reviews so I went for this one. I can't really say if the extra was worth it without doing the other trip, but for two people, after tax and trip its kind of an expensive 3 hours @not far off $200. The boat was Ok but was kind of short of places to sit (I got left with the impression he didn't want anyone inside) and the restroom toilet leaked, when it was flushed it leaked what you just added to it, all over the floor - gross. Captain Warren had everything set up for when the boat left. He can be a little brusque at times but when (if) he decides to turn on the charm is very charismatic and a good host. He got a little frustrated when people were losing their rigs and I think that is something he should accept with better grace, as a cost he has to burden. Running a bottom fishing trip over a reef, it's kind of inevitable to see some attrition on lead weights and hooks. The trip was fun, they went out their way for the kids, and most people, who tried, seemed to catch a fish. I noticed that the species of fish Captain Warren got very excited about people (including me) catching and not losing, were not the ones that were cooked for the customers. There was a small fillet cooked but not even enough for everyone on board. The more highly regarded fish seemed to be in the cool box when we left, so maybe we were all just fisherman who paid for the privilege to fuel his boat to catch his dinner? I didn't bother asking if I could take one, I kind of felt he would yell at me! Edit: when I checked my credit card account the cost of this was added as a "reoccurring charge" meaning that Blue Ocean can charge my card anytime they like without me being present. This is very frustrating and I have had to cancel my credit card and get a new one to resolve this read more

Went out for a 2 hour fishing excursion on 4/2/2018. This company should have cancelled the trip. The water was VERY rough and 90% of the passengers on the boat were throwing up. It was raining and generally miserable. I overheard a crew member say that the other fishing boats would never go out in this weather. No kidding... I was considering not going at all that morning because even the surfers weren't out but then we would have had to forfeit our $500 for the trip. Going fishing with Warren, his wife Nailani, and Rio was BY FAR the highlight of my month long trip in Hawaii. My dad and I loved it so much, we came back twice to do it again! And would have gone again if we had time. Three times just wasn't enough! This is a must-do! They also will cook up the fish right on the boat for you, and Nailani knows how to season fish!! I was never much of a fisher but my first time on the boat, we couldn't keep the fish from biting. They know what they are doing, AND best of all, the price is great. hey howzit everybody... Me and a friend went fishing on the Tortuga out of Ala Wai Boat harbor.... we had a great time, every one on board caught fish. Keoni the captain had us on fish at the very first stop. Great Job. Friendly and knowledgable, came down from the fly bridge and talked story with the guests. Warren the first mate, and his wife took care of the guests on the deck, cutting bait, ID ing the fish, cleaning fish and everything in between. They both worked constantly to make our trip a great one. It certainly was!!! On the way back to harbor Warren fired up the grill and by the time the lines were tied off at the dock, our fresh catch was ready to eat. the fish was so ONO, broke da mouth!
