This review if for the artist Teva. I was hesitant writing this as I hate to tarnish a local guys business. However my experience was frustrating enough I feel people should know what to expect. I live outer island and partly booked my trip back for this appointment. He asked for a deposit to reserve a date which is totally fair. The morning of he asked to postpone, understandable. He then postponed 3 more times that day only to cancel 20min before our agreed time. Literally wasted my whole day. It took some rearranging on my behalf but we confirmed for the next morning. I asked for a lizard to go on or around my knee, which has totally free space 3-4" above and below. When I showed up he tried to convince me that I should put it elsewhere and that his drawing would need to "overlap" my other tattoos. I said absolutely not, and we found a placement that worked which respectfully felt more like dumb luck than artistic intent. We went with it. Towards the end his next appointment showed up and I could clearly tell he was rushing to get done. I don't appreciate rushed tattoos. Blacks aren't fully packed in, areas look blown out. All could have been avoided with patience and attention to detail. At this point I'd rather buy a 30$ Amazon gun and fill it in myself. I can't speak for anyone else's work in the shop but if these are the guys they hire, I will not be returning read more

Go see Lindsey! Me and a friend was at Ala Moana shopping around and we randomly decided to get our piercings that we've been wanting to do. Me and my earlobes and her helix. We walked in and Lindsey greeted us and we told her what we wanted. She had us fill out paper work and looked at and chose earrings that we wanted while she set up the room. She led us into her room and I decided to go first. She looked at my ears and showed me where she would be piercing, walked me through everything that would be happening, and I was pierced! It wasn't painful at all, it felt like a scratch. After that, my friend got her helix done and she informed us of the aftercare. After our visit Lindsey texted us and sent us a Piercing Aftercare pdf file and to let her know if we had any issues or questions. A month later we saw her again to let her look at our piercings and resize our earrings. Lindsey is amazing and I am happy I got my earlobes pierced by her. I came here for an ear lobe re-piercing after my decades old piercing decided to close up on me. Initially when I came in, my lobe was rather angry at my attempts to force an earring through. So for that and other reasons, the piercer, Kylie, advised me to come back in a month or so. After about 2 months, my lobe was normal and soft and I finally had time to attend to a new piercing. I messaged Kylie on IG, as she gave me that contact during my previous visit. We set up an appointment for the next day. Upon arriving to the building, I snagged the last parking stall! They have free parking alongside the front of their building. It only took a few minutes for Kylie to get set up for my piercing. She was very thorough in her explanation of what was going to happen, what she was doing along the way, and what I should expect. Extremely professional and easy to talk to. After the piercing, which happened quickly and relatively painlessly, she detailed the aftercare instructions and also sent them to me via message. I would absolutely recommend Kylie for your ear and body piercing needs. She was very knowledgeable and I completely trusted her decisions. The pricing is very reasonable for the professional services you are getting. Don't get pierced at Claire's or similar shops! This place would be much safer, cleaner, and professional. read more

Thankfully we were able to get an appointment the very next day with Morgan who we met for the first time. My husband and daughter wanted to get tattoos while we were on O'ahu. My daughter wanted this as her HS graduation gift. She had major achievements this year and wanted a tattoo as another achievement lol. My daughter did some research and found 808 Tattoo on IG. Originally I had helped a friend to make an appointment for her very first tattoo which was scheduled on Super Bowl Sunday, was asked to come in earlier than the original scheduled time and ended up moving it to another day, decided to ask if I could be scheduled with her that day and it was no problem. Checked in on the day of our appointment with my friend and we were greeted by Myra, then our tattoo artist, mine being Nick (I apologize I can't recall the name of my friend's artist) .They were both very patient and took the time to explain the pros and cons of placement and sizing. I recently went to 808 Tattoo in Kaneohe, to get a plumeria tattoo on my forearm by Ama. I am still completely blown away by her attention to detail & fine lines. Ama's ability to create delicate, realistic flowers is out of this world. This was my first tattoo, & I was afraid it would be painful, but I had no problem sitting still for the entire duration of my tattoo. Ama was fast, but gentle. I love plumerias, & even though I live in a state that is cold & dry for half of the year, my husband & I have successfully cared for 27 plumeria trees for many years. They are a big part of our lives & 1 of my greatest passions. Ama listened to what I wanted, representing my children & the stage of life they're in, through the plumerias in my tattoo. Peggy just is one of the most skillful and creative artists out in Honolulu. I came to her looking to, at first cover up my tummy tuck scar. She gave me the low down about how healed it must be or it wouldn't look right may even look warped as time goes on. Well I decided to do the other project I've been itching to do. I have a lower back tattoo already from a long time ago and an arm tattoo that I got a cpl of years back so I wanted to connect it from my upper shoulder going down my back to my lower back but make it look like my lower back was meant to be part of my new tattoo. She suggested putting a bigger flower in the mix so I decided on a flower that grows in Germany (lilies) and the flower of Philippines (jasmine) as this is like my heritage type piece. After so much research, it was a toss up between Priestess Ink, 808 and 2 Thumbs. We went to 808, -but sadly they didn't win our hearts. I say this because their communication method (texting) was unclear. They need to clarify "town" means Honolulu location and not the other, maybe they thought I was local and automatically thought I'd know. I had to drive to the other location (it's almost an hour away). The other reason Im giving 808 only 3 stars is the payment method, they wanted me to Venmo the down payment ($100 per person) which is fine but the fact that you may never see your $ again, (what if they accidentally sent you the wrong handler???) it's quite unsettling especially if your booking for several people. The artist are Super Sweet tho, and I would give it another star if they didn't charge us on the higher end which I also get bc things are so expensive these days. But, I have to keep it honest, plain 3 black tats with hardly any shading and no color between 2-6 inches, -not for over $700. read more

Love love love this tattoo shop. Last year I found this gem and artist Megan Jones. I got a half sleeve last year and came back to get it finished this year. I've had a tattoo consultation with Billy as well as a few sessions of laser removal as I prepare for my coverup. The staff has always been great to deal with and this shop is ALWAYS crowded. Although laser removal isn't a very enjoyable procedure, Tory makes it as pleasant as possible with her professionalism and good conversations. If you're wanting laser I would definitely recommend, as well as if you're wanting a good tattoo and you're on the island I'd definitely look into this spot but make sure you're planning ahead because many of the artists have waitlists. read more

Born and raised in Oahu and unfortunately moving to Texas due to the high cost of living. I wanted to get one last tattoo to remember my home state since I don't think I'm ever coming back, at least for a loooong time. I doing some browsing on YELP and found several places and sat down to do consultations only to find out that trying to do a full sleeve and half my chest would cost a fortune. When I finally made my way to 808 Tattoos, that's where I met Andrew Giletti who said that he'd work with my budget. I ended up downsizing my tattoo to just a half sleeve. I'm a huge fan of the teenage mutant ninja turtles (TMNT) and when I inquired about get a mix between the TMNT and some poly tattoo designs, I thought it'd be a hard project, but Andrew had some creative ideas and made it work. Because of the time constraints, he agreed to knock out this tattoo for me in one session which can be challenging and restless. It took almost 9.5 hours to complete this piece. The outcome and stinging pain was so worth it and the design was amaaazing and I just love it. My family and friends thought it was awesome as well. This little shop is located on the 2nd floor across the street from the Ala Moana Center and the main bus stop on Kona Street. Other than Andrew being one of the coolest down-to-earth chill guy, the other staff there were all very nice and friendly. The parking lot is small and shared with other establishments. read more
