Living in California for the past 6 years and for the 3rd time decided to move and apply for new home as a full time student and self employed with my legal co-signer and this community not even ruin and waste my time and energy, the my did soft inquiry on my credit and cousin's credit! "CAROLINA" was not honest to me and not share her full knowledge before I paid for application fee AND DEPOSITE MONEY BEFORE I MOVE IN TO THE PLACE. I explained to her about my income and clearly they saw back and forward, my statements and even mentioned I have a co-signer with good history for the past 6 years and she made me to do all that and without any phone call 30 minutes after she sent a bunch of email for rentals verifications, her manager "DIANA" very rudely sent an email about rejection because of my co-signers credit and on phone call she brought another excuses, my co-signer used to be a co-signer for another 2 people with the letter of explanation we have a proof everything was on time but it's only report. Also, pay stubs are more than x3 and even x5 for source of income. As today on 26th of Feb, not these people wasted $118 only for a small commission for themselves and money from me. Also not sending my $400 deposit check back. I am trying to keep emailing and calling and leaving voicemails for DIANA and CAROLINA but non of them communicating with me. This check supposed to send out last 2 weeks and after a week Diana called me and apologized they just sent out after 10 days and because I am in LA, I would get it in 3-4 business days and now we are a week more (3rd week) I do NOT HAVE MY CHECK AND ANY RESPOND from these people. If you are self-employed even high income, stay away from this unprofessional team who would judge you because you are just smart and making money from your business. read more

I have lived in this building since 2012. Aside from the elevator constantly breaking down, it is beautifully maintained and the management staff is really nice. All of this great experience has been ruined with the rent increase I was recently handed - a 21% increase for renewal of a 12 month lease. That's an increase of $729 a month. If I went month to month, it would have gone up $1,400 a month. I've been a model tenant, ALWAYS have paid my rent on time. Always have taken care of my apt. and the common areas, picking up trash where I see it, etc. Clearly this building is being leased like it's a hotel. I can't wait to see this scam blow up in their faces. If you scroll through the reviews, you'll see that they've all gone from 4 to 5 stars, to only 1 star over the course of the past year. UPDATE - moved out. Left the apartment spotless and they took $1000 from our deposit. Wow. This is was the most shady experience I have had in all my years of renting. They know they can get away with it as who has the time for small claimed court. This building is great overall. BUT If anything happens on the weekend/eveninthere's no one available to help unlike most big buildings/companies. Really nice building in great location. It could use some updating for sure. We pay high rent to live on the top floor only to have to deal with the elevators breaking down for several days. Carrying my dog up and down the stairs to use the bathroom several times is very frustrating. Been here a month they've already been down twice for many days. I don't typically write reviews, however in this case I felt compelled to leave my honest opinion about 801 North. My girlfriend and I moved into 801 North in May of last year after coming from a terrible experience from a previous residence. We knew we wanted to live in a worry free environment that felt like an actual home. When we saw the pictures on the website we knew that 801 North was worth checking out, and boy were we right! Everything in this building is immaculate, from the units, to the garage. It seems as if no expense was spared building and maintaining this complex. At the time we were considering moving in, the current building manager Adrienne had just started as well and you would have never noticed, she is a complete pro! To be completely honest she is the main reason why we decided to renew our lease for a second year. Any minor problems (and I mean minor) that came up, she was on it faster than we could believe. She truly cares about this building and everyone who lives here. And now for the good stuff... the rooftop terrace features hotel-like amenities from covered cabanas, a grassy area with large umbrellas and lounge chairs, a modern fire pit, and 2 station BBQ area that I frequent at least once per week. Every time I open the BBQ its as clean as the day it was purchased. As for downstairs, The Fat Dog and The Commissary are two places I can't go with out. They really have everything here. With all good things there is some bad, although this doesn't effect us personally, but if you are looking here you should be aware of. Sweat Garage is one of the retail spaces under 801 North, and if you are on the 2nd Floor facing Fairfax Ave, you will 100% feel your apartment shake when classes are in session. Overall, if you're considering looking in the Fairfax District there really isn't a better place that 801 North. It's definitely worth the time to go see. read more

Let's just say I was pleasantly surprised with my first experience here at 801 North. Before I walked in, I noticed that the entire first floor is occupied with a variety of neat retail stores like the Coffee Commissary, The Fat Dog (a gastropub), Lindy and Grundy (an organic butcher shop), Sweat Garage (body conditioning gym), Tailwaggers (pet supply store), and a couple more. They provided a lively/stimulating atmosphere so at least I know I can spend some time over there on my free time. I met with Kyla, the manager, and she was extremely personable. She showed me the gym which was nice and then introduced the rooftop skydeck which literally blew me away. The skydeck provided an in-your-face view of Los Angeles with the Hollywood Hills blazing along the skyline. Not to mention, the classy, private cabanas that they provide overlooking the entire city. I walked into one of their 1 bed/1 bath unit facing Fairfax and I immediately felt a charismatic vibe from the brightly lit room. It could use a little more closet/storage space but the overall feel of the place more than makes up for it. The custom made, dark espresso colored Italian cabinets along with the polished, urbane style kitchens gave the place a much desired classic/modern feel (something I would certainly show off to my friends and family). The units also have mushroom colored carpets in the bedroom and either a maple or espressso woodened floors. Also provided are the private balconies which face the peaceful, bamboo and fountain decorated courtyard or the lively view of Fairfax and the Hollywood sign on the hills. The units overlooking Fairfax may be a concern to some with the street cars zipping around from underneath but the double-paned windows do reduce a lot of the sound it seemed like. Lastly, the closet with a washer and dryer in every unit is a nice comforting/finishing touch, not to mention quite convenient! Overall, if you don't mind a bit of a trim in terms of space I would highly recommend 801 North because all the amenities that they provide make the living space worthwhile. I recently moved from San Francisco to Los Angeles with my partner & we're loving that this is our new home. Everything from the tour to the application process to moving in was quite flawless. Adrienne was extremely helpful & communicative which ensured we had a great experience throughout. The pictures and videos we saw on the website/Instagram/Yelp were pretty spot on--especially the rooftop which has amazing views of LA. Also, this building is walking distance to literally everything (bars/restaurants/barbershop/grocery stores etc.) I agree with comments about the bedroom closet space not being enough (so you'll need additional storage/dressers). And the bathroom is overly large (maybe it's my perspective of tiny bathrooms in SF)--but that's hardly a bad thing. It's only been a few weeks but we're excited to make this home for the next few years! read more

I lived at 801 North for a year. Hands down, it was my best living experience in LA. My unit was phenomenal- gorgeous dark hardwood floors, quartz counter tops, stainless appliances, great finishes. The tenants are friendly. The location cannot be beat- the building itself sits on top of a bar, a deli, a coffee shop, a pizza place, a work out studio and much much more. I also want to call out the building manager Kyla. She is the BEST. She really takes care of her tenants. She is responsive to requests, she made sure my packages got to me, she even helped me set up a surprise in my apartment for my gf's birthday! I had to move out in the middle of my 2nd lease- she helped me find a new tenant to replace me so the financial hurt was minimal. As I stride away for the last time on "my elliptical" in the 801 North gym... I think back to all the memories I have made at this complex since moving in 5 years ago... Since there are so many, I feel the only way I can describe my feelings about this sexy apartment complex is to list out all the PROS and CONS... So here goes: PROS: - Amazing location - Beautifully manicured apartments - Very quiet (at least my apartment was, I faced the alleyway- although I did hear parties at times, but nothing a fan can't drown out the noise of) - Spacious balconies - The rooftop with lounge chairs, grills, tables, etc is on point and wonderful for small gatherings - Great parking, NO TANDEM - Very secure with a overnight security guard - If you don't feel like cooking, you can venture downstairs to the eateries (I hear Fat Dog is amazing), or you can walk to lots of restaurants near by, or just go to Whole Foods! - THE GYM, THE GYM... The gym was my second home. I was there EVERY MORNING for two hours. - Kyla (building manager) and her associates (they change periodically) seriously kick ass! They're super accommodating, down to earth and want to help if there are ever any issues, which there rarely were for me at least. - Washer & Dryer in unit - AC in unit works like a CHAMPION CONS: - Not much closet space AT ALL - Not much organizable pantry space in the kitchen - You will definitely need dressers, book shelves, etc or else you will have STUFF everywhere - The garage ALWAYS smells like sewage - They pump the oil or grease something rather every six months and it smells VILE - Dishwasher sucks - THE FIRE ALARMS. THE WORST. While it got better over the course of the five years I've lived here, they still go off periodically... Enough that people do not even bother vacating the premise because they know it's a false alarm... And enough that if the alarm doesn't turn off by itself, the fire department doesn't come for a good 30 minutes... There have been TWO actual fires at this complex and both times... No one knew, which is a little scary to me. - The mailman gets VERY LAZY and will sometimes put packages in wrong boxes, thus you may lose your mail or packages - The rent increased TREMENDOUSLY over the course of the five years I've been here, but... That's not the apartments fault per say, and honestly, for all the amenities, I still think the price is worth it.... Well, that is, unless it gets up to $5k per month. - No utilities are INCLUDED. I will ALWAYS remember the first night I ever had in this complex... My downstairs neighbor was BLARING MUSIC (with a bumping base) but next door neighbors were arguing enough that I almost felt the need to call 911 and my upstairs neighbor was practicing to be the next IRISH STEP DANCER. It was an utter nightmare... And I was TERRIFIED that I made the WRONG CHOICE in moving to 801 North. Alas, I complained to Kyla and like that, the problems ceased (well, at least the downstairs neighbor did immediately- because I believe she was kicked out). My final night at 801 North was VASTLY DIFFERENT... Utter silence. It was a beautiful thing. read more

A year ago, impressed by the reviews, the friendliness of the leasing office staff and the admittedly nice view from the top floor, I decided to sign a 12 month lease at 801 North. I could list many pros and cons I experienced at the property which overall would paint a mixed picture (and you don't really want mixed when you're paying 4k per month in rent), but I'd rather focus on the unfairness with which the move out and deposit reimbursement process was handled: the pre-inspection was conducted two weeks ahead of the move out date and the feedback was professional cleaning (the apartment was left clean, but I know deep professional cleaning is a standard and acceptable fee) and minor paint touch ups (the walls were immaculate as nothing was hung or pressed against them over the course of the year) may be needed. Imagine my surprise when 3 weeks after having moved out I received a 640$ invoice (billed against the deposit) for two men working 8 hours a day for 2 days on "painting". To compare, my previous two buildings charged 90$ (22 month stay, owned by Sequoia), 87.50$ (13 month stay, owned by NMS Properties). All in all, of a 2000$ deposit less than 1 thousand was returned despite the lack of any reported damage. During the course of the past 12 months the area has seen a wave of new buildings of a higher standard at a comparable price - if you are considering signing a new lease in the West Hollywood area, I would highly recommend you choose more wisely than I did. read more

They have been incredibly understanding regarding my strange behavior as of late, and they even have done a good job fending off the blue-shirters who keep stopping by. They pound and pound at the door but eventually are shuttled away. Bless Bradley and Kyla. Also, they were completely and totally ok with me installing the extra deadbolt locks onto my door for safety. I think I'm finally ready to venture back out. Maybe next week. I don't know if reviewer Jaymie Lynn S. just went in for a tour or actually lived in the building, because I don't think it deserves her glowing praise. Here's my experience: First the good. The location is great. It's close to The Grove, Melrose, and the Farmer's Market. The Commissary underneath is incredible pretentious, but a great place to grab a cup of coffee. The staff at Tailwaggers are true animal lovers and very nice. The finishings are pretty luxe. A stainless steel appliance suite and hardwood floors add a nice touch. In terms of amenities, the view from the rooftop deck and on-site gym can't be beat. Now the bad. The rents are on par with the most luxury buildings in the area, but the units scrimp on space and storage. Utilities are not included (but rent does include parking, unlike The Crescent) so add a couple hundred plus bucks there. The lack of closets will be a real turn-off to girls and guys with a lot of clothes. While there's a lot of built-in storage, no one will want to store their shoes in the kitchen. I opted for a penthouse unit because I thought it would be quiet. I was totally wrong. There is little to no sound insulation between the penthouse floor and the rooftop deck, which means you can hear everything up there. Make sure you bring a friend and have him/her walk/talk right above your unit, move the deck chairs around, and most importantly, walk in the rock beds. There's nothing worst when you're trying to sleep and a girl in stilettos is walking around at 2am, or someone's letting their dog run through the rock beds. Seriously, it sounds like it's raining gravel on the ceiling. Which brings me to the last bad point. The residents. There are a few nice people in the building. The rest are uptight junior publicist types who think they're entitled to everything. Good luck getting them to follow the rooftop curfew. I didn't mind if people were up there around midnight, but it really bugged me at 2am, 3am and even 4am. There's one guy who thinks he's a recording artist and sings so badly that I thought it was a joke. But after hearing him scream for hours day in and day out I almost wanted to die. There's another guy who constantly drunk and smoked pot on the roof ... I even found him passed out there in the cold. And just wait until you have people throwing parties right above you. There's nothing like a boombox reverbing through your unit (they're not allowed per the rooftop rules, but that's never enforced) and thirty people walking right on top of you. Now the ugly. They say you can't pick your neighbors. I wish you could. I lived next to two guys who vandalized my unit. Basically, they thought I did something I didn't, and out of spite threw garbage at my unit. They and a mob of friends also walked back and forth in front of my keyhole mouthing the words "f--k you" and flipping me off. This act was completely unprovoked (the other neighbors and security guard can confirm this). You wouldn't expect this immature, illegal behavior from people who pay $2200+/month in rent, but it happened. Kyla, the building manager, was sympathetic but little was done. I didn't even receive an apology until several days later, and my neighbors lied and blamed their friends. I saw them vandalize my door with my own eyes. The management was unsympathetic and dismissed their actions as "not a big deal." When someone defiles property and tries to intimidate you, that's not a big deal? And, I might add, these neighbors have a police file on them from a previous domestic incident. So this is luxury living, eh? Kyla did help me break my lease and move out but I feel she could've done more. In fact, I had a replacement come in who she said didn't qualify, but said he did the following day. When I called the replacement, he had already signed another lease. Her indecisiveness cost me $5,000 -- I couldn't find another renter until two months later. I didn't stay my full lease, but other residents told me they raise -- not lower the rents after a year. Moving here was one of the worst -- and costliest -- decisions in my life. read more

I moved from a loft in Venice to 801 North last month and it was the best decision I could have made. The building is quite nice - my apartment feels like an uber-cool hotel suite (11' ceilings, a fireplace, central a/c, and a patio), its proximity to pretty much everything is great (including tasty pour-over coffee, pet supplies, and restaurants located right downstairs), and the other residents I've met are super friendly (including the four-legged ones). However, the real gem here is the building manager, Adrienne Kaady. I've rented many apartments on both coasts and she made what is nearly always a stressful and frustrating process actually enjoyable. She is bright and personable and its easy to see that she really cares about her residents. When I learned a few days before I moved in that an 8X10 rug I ordered arrived early I was concerned that it would block the hallway so I reached out to Adrienne. I found out that the courier didn't even bother to bring it upstairs and had just left it in the lobby. But instead of calling me to deal with it, Adrienne had gone above and beyond and had already dragged the heavy rug to her office by herself for safe keeping. Thanks Adrienne! read more

I have been a tenant for over a year now, and really enjoy living here. Having the best rental building at a great price in this area is hard to come by. The amenities are wonderful. The gym is clean, rooftop cabans with great views of the city, gated parking, nightly security guard, cameras everywhere, and constant cleaning of the building to name a few. Kyla the building manger is amazing, and will help with any maintenance request, and even give advice of great spots around the area. I eat almost daily downstairs at Pitfire, The Fat Dog, Coffee Commissary, and get great meats at Lindy & Grundy an in house butcher. Not a better location, which is within close range to great shopping dining, and all household needs. Just resined my lease without hesitation! A+ read more

My review is to give praise to Kyla Griffith the manager of the 801 North Fairfax. My fiance and i are planning our wedding and want to scale down on rent to save money without giving up the luxuries we have at our present place and all the perks and conveniences that come with living close to the Grove. I contacted 801 and scheduled a tour with Kyla. When we met her she was warm, inviting, professional and patient. She showed us a unit that had everything we we were looking for, except the square footage we needed for all our stuff but at a amazing price! I called her the next day to say we wanted the apartment, got approved, and then called her back to say we changed our minds and found something else with more square footage! I was expecting attitude or some sign in her voice of distain but to my surprise she was supportive and genuinely wished us well. We put down $300 deposit on another place and decided after the fact that we weren't really saving and cancelled that reservation within 48 hours...however we lost our deposit. I called Kyla and she kindly welcomed us back. Well, some unexpected changes occurred with business and a possible move to Arizona so ONCE AGAIN OUR INDECISIVE SELVES called her back to cancel after giving her a $1,750.00 depositl!!! By this time Mother Teresa would have said screw you guys! I was and am blown away with Kyla..her tone, her demeanor, professionalism, candor, how understanding she was/is and her honor. Without any tug of war she gave us back our deposit. Very few people these days impress me. My review is 5 stars even though we didn't move to 801...we haven't finalized our plans just yet...GO FIGURE. read more

I have lived at 801 North Now for 3 years, and I have the intention to stay here much longer. The building manager Kyla is very professional and will go out of her way to make sure that you are happy. I have never had any problems with any of the neighbors being too loud, or any sounds for that matter. 801 North is considered a luxury apartment community its just a few years old, and comes fitted with modern appliances. The apartments which face towards Fairfax have double paned windows which when closed make it almost impossible to hear any of the noisy cars on Fairfax. The apartment community comes with an amazing rooftop deck, and the community has a very upscale feel to it. 801 North is also in a prime location, located walking distance to just about everything. The tenants here are very respectful of each other and the premises for the most part. The management keeps the grounds looking immaculate. I love living here and highly recommend it! read more

I have been looking for something a little more within my budget and the only reason I am currently leaving where I presently live. 801 North has a prime location that has many walkable restaurants and close to the Grove. The Rooftop deck is spacious and you can actually rent it for private parties. I toured with the Manager, Adrienne, and she was very helpful and engaging. She went over an beyond to show me as many units that were available for my comparison. I am still deciding between a couple apartments but I want to be able to due my due diligence for the exceptional customer service I received from Adrienne. Michael Hunter went above and beyond to find me the perfect unit in 801 North after I had looked at a handful of apartments in other buildings. Then, when I applied, I had a nightmare experience with a previous landlord, who nearly prevented me from moving in. Michael and Kyla Griffith (Property Manager) were patient, helped me get the issue resolved, and could not have been more pleasant throughout the process. Don't move here! Although it is a great location and the apartments are nice, you will regret it! Fire alarms go off frequently, every couple of months they clean some kind of sewage pipes under the units which literally smells like toxic sh*t and chemicals and they love to increase rent every year. I have lived in several different apprtments all over L.A. and this is by far hands down the BEST apartment living experience EVER. I never want to move. Aside from all of the amenities offered by the building (gym, rooftop, covenience of having a restaurant, a coffee shop, and a gastropub- AND the amazing sweat agarge IN the building) the building's manager KYLA is absolutely incomparable. She is always there to help with anything and is very timely about any request. Her positive attitude and willingness to help in any way possible is a breath of fresh air. 801 North feels like a little family. I lived here from December 2011 to December 2014. It was a great experience overall. Kyla was the best property manager, every time I had an issue it was resolved right away. Soto was a great handyman, and Brian was always helpful in the leasing office. The location was great and the property had great businesses. The building has a pizza place, a pet supply store, a butcher shop (Which unfortunately closed), a bar & grill, a kitchen design shop, and the best coffee house in LA. The rent was pricey, but it included central air, washer/dryer in the unit, parking, a rooftop deck, and a gym. My issues with 801 North were a lack of space. No closet space, no fans. It was hard to cook without smelling up the apartment. Fire alarms would go off, but not frequently. The walls were also paper thin, my neighbor's living room was next to my bedroom. He would have people over late at night, but it was easy to sleep through. Overall, it was a great experience for my first and only place in LA. read more

I moved into 801 North about three months ago and really like it. The apartment is modern and cute. I love the tall ceilings. The appliances are new(ish). The location is great, although the street noise is something to adjust to. I love having a gym in the building. It's always clean and cool. I never hear my neighbors through the walls. I feel safe and secure. The neighbors are very friendly and, the few service requests I have requested have been attended to promptly and professionally. I would say that the only negatives are the thin and cheep carpet in the bedroom and no swimming pool. That said, I would recommend living here! read more

I moved in about two years ago and am in the process of moving out. I wanted to share that I have really enjoyed living in this building. Its great to be able to go downstairs to eat and workout and the location is terrific. I also really appreciated the way the building was managed and kept up. Its so rare in the lower price ranges to be able to live in a nice secure environment and this was just that. The manager Kyla is great, approachable and incredibly helpful.
