If you are a craft beer lover, this place is a Detroit staple and locals hot spot. Their beer selection is always top notch and the staff is very friendly. You are always greeted when you arrive and the staff learns your name as you frequent their shop. If you're new to the beer scene, don't fret! The staff can always help guide you and give strong recommendations for beers you pay like. They offer indoor and outdoor seating, but get there early because it fills up fast! Street parking is available and Plato shares the building with The Peterboro, so you can always order food from them and bring it into the taproom. Make sure to check their Instagram- they post almost daily which is so helpful to see what's on tap and what their stock inventory looks like. I can't say enough good things about Plato!

This was my first time here! We were trying to stay in the area prior to our concert and this was a really cool spot. They specialize in specialty beer and liquor. So it's a "high end party store" but also a bar with unique beer choices. The owner took his time helping us with our selections and was super friendly. His wife owns a boutique in Detroit as well. He was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. We sat and enjoyed a couple of drinks before moving on to our concert. We will definitely be back!

It's like being an adult in a grown-up candy store. Except instead of candy, it's all the most random, tasty-sounding, and interestingly-labeled beers you'll ever see! They also have 16 beers on tap that you won't find at most breweries or bars. The employees are friendly and knowledgeable, and the space is like a corner bar but with a grocery section that's just composed of beers. There's also a refrigerated section where you can scoop some cold ones, and for a small corking fee, you can open and enjoy on premises. Swing by, explore, and try a new beer on their small from patio! Cheers!

Beer, beer, and more beer! The craft beer selection is exceptionally top notch. You can find just about anything that you may be looking or searching for. If they do not have it, they can help you get it and or find it. The staff has an impeccable knowledge of all things beer. Especially helpful if you want to purchase a few different beers is their flexibility to split 4 packs into singles. This is a huge plus to know when browsing and contemplating purchases. They also have a small bar with draft selections. So you can actually make purchases and sample in same location.

Loving on this place for its great atmosphere, lovely staff, and great beer selection - both bottled and on draft. Great place to stop before a game or dinner. You can find both communal seating and bar seats or small tables if you want to enjoy a dolo drink. They also have wine (in a can!) for this not into beer.

I loved everything about it!! Im at a place in my life when I go grab a brew I just want to be in a nice atmosphere with good people. Not looking for the LOUD, head and chest pounding musical selections, or the over production of a franchise based bar. 8 Degree Plato is a place I could just grab a beer by myself and enjoy the accommodations and beer selections.

Was recommended to come here by The Skip. Searching for a nice brewery in the area, this was it. The environment was chill and around 7pm it was not packed, which was appreciated. They carried a variety of drafts and samples were 1-3 dollars so you could easily create a flight and sample every beer for about 15-20 bucks. They also sell beer as well, I did not purchase any of these, but it provided nice decorations during my visit.

Makku, three different flavors!

Very friendly staff! I ran in to pick up some Makku for a Yelp tasting event and they were stocked with three delicious flavors! The original, blueberry and mango. There was outdoor seating and a bar inside with seating as well. Their selection of handcrafted beers is the best!

I. Fell. In. lOVE with this place! Awesome, helpful, and friendly servers. Comfy setting. Very welcoming. Nice and quiet. Like the decor. Just everything about this place is great! :)

Everything you could want in a craft beer store - knowledgeable friendly staff, vast selection, clean organized shelving and placement. It's in a fun location with lots of places to walk to t embibe. Parking is a bit tricky. Some street parking but also surface parking (potholes included) behind the building. But best of all....they have a bar! A rotating unique selection of beer. Get a flight or a pint or a tulip. (Nd there's wine for your non-beer friends)

Nate and I stopped in on our most recent visit to Detroit and had a lovely experience. The space is tucked away but had a surprising amount of outdoor space--we were there in January but I'd love to come back in the summer. We were greeted right away and given a spot near the bar. The menu includes cocktails, lots of wine, and several tasty food options. It was quite busy inside, so it took a bit of time for our server to come over to us, but we weren't in a rush. They had ten cocktails on their list and I tried the bullet proof soul and Nate got the negroni alla perra. The ingredients list for some of the cocktails include things I've never heard of, but at a place like this, I just know it's going to be good. Our drinks were perfectly balanced and very tasty. We also ordered the mortadella sandwich to split--this was delicious. It was pretty messy, but worth it. It was perfectly toasted and full of mortadella. Everything on the menu sounded delicious and I would love to try more of the food options. Can't wait to visit again!

There's artwork, a skatepark, renovated houses, gardens and a church that is now an art gallery. We stopped in to check it out and sat at the bar for a cocktail and snack. The waitstaff were super helpful in explaining everything and we finally picked 2 apps and got drinks. Both were amazing. There were friendly patrons all around and we chatted with other bar admirers. We checked out the coffee shop, Warda, but didn't purchase anything then, but have had several of their desserts since then and they did not disappoint. The atmosphere is wonderful, indoor/outdoor bar, great outside seating - not sure how this will work in the winter? They also have very pretty stone paths with multicolor stones mixed in for a very peaceful beautiful look. It inspired me to add some multicolored stones to my garden! I can't wait to return.

The music hits, the crowd is always lively, and it just feels like summer no matter what time of year it is. Whether you're stopping by before hitting another spot or making it your main destination for the night, The Skip always delivers. Now let's talk drinks -- because they do not play around. The Long Islands are ON POINT. Strong, smooth, and perfectly balanced. Not watered down, not overly sweet -- just right. You definitely feel like you're getting your money's worth, and they're dangerously easy to sip. I love the overall vibe here. It's social, upbeat, and perfect for hanging with friends. If you want good music, great drinks, and a guaranteed good time, The Skip should absolutely be on your list. This is one of those places you go once... and then it becomes part of your regular rotation.

We made reservations in a weekend but it wasn't necessary at 5. What I didn't know what this theme is a pop up much like Miracle Bar around Christmas. The mugs are not really made for The Skip and can be found online for less. Most importantly is the drinks are not good. They're not spirit forward, they're full of mixers. Such a bummer because they do make good cocktails occasionally. We were one and done this evening due to the bad drinks and loads of people who brought their kids to this bar. The decor is great. Service is attentive and friendly. Not in a rush to return.

This is an update to my previous review of HopCat Detroit…read more I still love the food and the lively, energetic ambiance here. The fresh, flavorful meals and the downtown vibe make it one of my favorite spots to grab a bite or hang out with friends. That said, I want to elaborate on my not-so-great dine-in experience from before. One night I decided to eat in, and while my waitress was genuinely nice and attentive, the experience took a weird turn when my meal was brought out. The guy delivering it just walked past me, dropped the plate on the table with a loud clank, and didn't greet me or even acknowledge me at all. It was jarring -- not only did it feel careless, but it completely broke the warm, fun vibe I'd come in expecting. On top of that, I had the app downloaded to earn rewards points, but my waitress never added them, which was frustrating enough that I ended up deleting the app. That one visit definitely stood out as an exception in an otherwise positive history with this location. Since then, I've had better experiences with staff, and the food and overall energy of the place continue to shine. Despite that one odd incident, I still highly recommend HopCat for the atmosphere, creative menu, and fresh food. I'll continue coming back and will share more updates (and pics) along the way.
