Really great idea for a bar - piles of board games/card games everywhere so that you can play games and drink craft beers that have been inspired by pure geekiness. Add in the small groups gathered around playing vintage video games together and you have a pretty relaxed fun vibe. Great service- only one reservation was they are IPA heavy on their brews - wish they had one or two more for people who aren't fans of IPAs. read more

It was just okay. It is pretty far out of Phoenix, and nothing I would say is worth going out of your way for. It is kind of fun because they have a few old school game systems set up on very tiny TVs throughout the brewery. The beer was just okay. read more

After kicking some kid's ass in Magic the Gathering, I came to 8-bit to celebrate and rejoice in my victory. The craft brewery was incredibly unique, and the black mage stout tasted like no other stout beer I have tasted before. It was delicious. The area is a bit out of place, but that just adds to the hipster and hole-in-the-wall breweries that are highly sought after for a bunch of hipsters and beer snobs that won't touch bud light. It's fun to toy around with the video games and I did enjoy the environment the staff and owners brought to the tables. It's definitely a place I will visit again and again. read more

8-Bit Aleworks is amazing! I used to dislike IPAs, but 8-Bit has totally changed my opinion. I love their Legend of Zymur, but my favorite beer they brew is Snickerdoodle (they only make it for special occasions though). Although they don't have a menu there, there is sometimes a food truck and outside food is welcome. There are plenty of games to play (personal favorite: Red Dragon Inn) and the owners are some of the nicest people you will ever meet! read more

I first was introduced to this company by way of The Wigwam a couple months ago. Right off the bat I was excited. Beer and video games without the nightmare of a douchey club atmosphere. The owners are amazing, very friendly and the pride they take in their product and business shows. Last night went with some friends to their main location. It's in the back of an industrial park so don't let that discourage you. It's nice to be able to park close. Inside was very clean, sanitary. Everyone friendly. If you want to know about the events, you need to ask. We found out about one happening in April and you can believe ill be there for sure! Grab yourself a good beer, relax, and play some video games. If that's not what you want to do then they also have a huge variety of board games or you can sit back at the bar and converse with everyone. Next time I think I'll sit at the actual bar. Oh! And their menu changes so don't expect to see any bud light water beer on tap. It's all house crafted! Amazing flavors! Can't wait to go back again! read more

So we went to try the beer. They only have a few to choose from, not a problem. The variety is enough everybody found one to like. The Wit I had was good enough to have a second. You can also get a flight. There are a few early video games and consoles spread out to play on that emphasize the 8-bit theme. They don't serve food but did not mind our group setting up a table with appetizers for our group. The place was spotless. The service was very friendly. If it wasn't so far out I wouldn't mind going another time to see what they have brewed. read more

The owners are incredibly friendly. They bend over backward to give you the best experience possible. Although the interior resembles the back of a restaurants kitchen, the little touches of video game lore strewn about the walls and tables warms up the atmosphere. The staff is more than happy to set up a video game station for you to enjoy over your beers. Some of the beers do not reflect the youth of the brewery, but harken to a veteran brewer flexing his muscle. If available, I recommend the Mayan Chocolossus. Unfortunately, they do not serve food. If You Love Beer, You Love 8-Bit Their Angle---------- 8-bit Aleworks was formerly called "8-bit Brewery". While I personally like the "flow" of "8-bit Brewery" apparently many people out there have a skewed perception of what a brewery should be. Unfortunately Arizona breweries are notorious for being breweries PLUS restaurants. 8-bit is a brewery in the purist sense. They offer beer - outstanding beer! If you want food you're welcome to bring it. Also, Friday evenings now have a regular food truck that stops by which I'm told is pretty good. Oh yeah, they also have this 8-bit video game thing going on... At first sight, I felt the 8-bit theme was a little gimmicky. I'm a moderate video game/comic nerd and let's face it, the 8-bit thing has been done before. All types of businesses try to capitalize on the iconic style hoping to inject a shot of nostalgia into their offerings. BUT... for 8-bit Brew-*ahem*- uh... Aleworks, the 8-bit theme works. It makes complete sense because it has a way of making visitors feel at ease. Whether you're an extreme nerd, have a touch of a nerdy side, or are somewhere in between (like me), 8-bit Aleworks theme makes it feel like a place your friends would think up. The Beer---------- Um... what can I say. Ryan (owner) knows what he's doing. To start off there are 4 beers that are always available (aside from some unforeseen mass influx of patrons). All creatively named with nods to classic games: White Mage (my personal favorite), Black Mage, Hoppsassins Creed... Speaking of Hoppsassins Creed. This was the first ever IPA that I've actually enjoyed. Sorry, I know IPAs seem to be the latest rage with the kids these days, but for the most part... yuck. Not my thing. This IPA though, was so smooth without sacrificing a robust range of flavor. Lastly, Ryan has a few seasonal or "experimental" offerings (a word he used). But don't get me wrong... these are WELCOME experiments! I sampled a little experiment he calls "The Hefe Is A Lie" (if you don't get the game reference you don't deserve to know.... ok, ok, from Portal). I cannot remember the last time I was blown away by a beer. It's been a long time... I could not leave the place without buying a growler of the stuff to share with family and friends. I really hope he decides to do more once the batch is gone. The Service---------- Ryan is one of the guys. He's a genuinely nice, accommodating guy and I would go out on a limb that he takes pride in his nerdy side too. His wife is just as pleasant and it's apparent that both are extremely hard workers. You really can't get better service. These people give great service because they treat you like you're a friend coming to hang out. I don't think it would be possible to get bad service here. The Establishment---------- The place was immaculately clean, and they are hard at work continuing to develop the look and feel of the interior. My first visit yesterday still had a tinge of paint from the freshly blue west wall. I hear some awesome vinyls are coming today that will turn it into a Super Mario Bros scene. All the people I met there were extremely nice as well. Again seemingly fitting somewhere on the nerd plane, it felt like you could talk to anyone in there about Zelda or Star Wars or Rampage... in fact we talked about all those things. Again, the 8-bit theme isn't just a gimmick. It works wonders here, allowing the owner to be creative and allowing patrons to settle in and enjoy themselves. Lastly, I must comment on the location. It's, in a word, unfortunate. Don't get me wrong, I PERSONALLY love the location. I'm a west-sider (not that kind) and I love that the place is in Avondale. But it's a well-known fact that, while the west will often venture over to the east for dining and drinking, the reverse is not so common. 8-bit is also tucked away behind some warehouses and what appears to be a lot of empty office suites. Again, great for me and everyone else who's found and adores this place, but it raises concern that long term stability could be an uphill battle for them. Wrap Up---------- It's clear that 8-bit already has a small devoted following. And no wonder... they're great at what they do: epic beer in a relaxed, welcoming environment. We'll just have to see if this following is vocal and proactive enough to combat the location issue by promoting it to others. I would encourage anyone on the west side to stop by and I would say east-siders you're really missing out if you don't take a drive every once in a while. For me, I think I've found my new go-to spot. I'll be there again tonight. read more

First off their beer I'd give 4 stars. The brewer is still working on a couple of them but he's definitely headed in the right direction. The Peach IPA and Stout were my favorites. As far as the tasting room/pub is concerned 3 stars at best. The video game theme gets old in about 10 minutes. There was no music other than video game noises on loop. The decorations will remind you of being a 10 year old and not in a good way. No ambiance at all. Nice people, good beer, bad to horrible atmosphere. read more

I'm so excited! I have been dying for a good bar nearby and this goes above and beyond what I have been hoping for. I love video games. I love beer. This place represents amazing games and has beer. Not only that, the beer is delish! We tried every type available (three for the time being) and I can't even express my satisfaction. Cool place with a lot of nostalgia from the NES days. As of today they only have three beers with two more on the way. This place is very similar to many of the brewery from so cal, this brewery is located in an industrial area. I enjoyed all three of their beers. You should try the hopsassian IPA. Especially if you are into a week flavored IPA. The best part, they allow you to bring food in, and order food to be delivered there. read more

The beer here is good..but not great. They do have some very unique brews , and atmosphere. Customer service is lacking , and could be friendlier. Arrogance about par at best beer is off putting. However, if you live in Avondale, this is the only craft brewery and its worth a visit. read more
