To be honest I tried two attempts here to get their beer and both times were fails. The address associated with their Yelp entry here seems to be at the owner's house. And they indeed did have a small taproom here going off of the Yelp pictures. People really liked the beers from the other reviews and the concept definitely caught our attention (ahem) but when we got there and within operating hours of the taproom everything was closed up tighter than a drum. We wanted to make another attempt to try their beer at a later time and when we did it looked like they moved to downtown Hillsboro. We'll we made it there, Steve and I and went in the door only to be told they were closed BUT the owner didn't turn us away and so we had a can of cider. They were doing a remodel and we figured we would make yet another attempt in a few months to try their beer since none was available during the particular time the remodel was taking place and when we arrived. I made a third attempt only to find out the old BDSM sign was taken down and smoked meats and cold beer were sold at the location we were at months before. All of these changes must have been recent and swift because the third attempt was a week ago and Google had the business in the search as still being open and they had an active Facebook page. The Facebook page and has since vanished in a week's time and the Google result says they are permanently closed. They still have their own website up but I wouldn't imagine that is very useful at this point and time. Too bad. A few missed opportunities here without a full on beer experience with what they brewed.

I was blown away by the quality of their food. I enjoyed their brews and food on many a cold, dark night outside, dressed in hat and coat, during those early days of Covid. I've been back a few times since then and just enjoyed another great meal. So it's time for an update! While I usually go for the Dubbel or the Grand Cru, this time I had the Imperial Stout and greatly enjoyed it. Also enjoyed another terrific Mazama burger. What struck me on day one and what continues to be true all these years later is the Excellence they demonstrate in everything they do. The beers are creative and first rate and are part of a long tradition. The food far exceeds typical pub fare. I usually have to trek to downtown PDX to find pub food of this quality. I greatly enjoy the Mazama burger. The Bavarian Pretzel is amazing. And the Donut Holes are terrific. They have a great menu full of small plates and entrees. I have my work cut out for me! They have a terrific modern space with plenty of tables (great for large groups) as well as a loungy area, a great bar, a window bar, and a terrific outside patio looking over the Jerry Willey plaza. Service has always been exceptional - considerate, kind, and personable. I'm grateful to be able to walk to such a great place. I got the Beaverton Collab. It was a nice, light beer with a good bready flavor to it but crisp and clean as well in the flavor profile. I didn't catch who the brewery collaborated with but I more often than not really like beers that are collaborative efforts. There were two very sweet and charming dogs here which I believe were with the guy running the bar that day and that really made an impact on me as well. I love saying "hello" to sweet dogs and the fact that it was in a brewery made all the more fun. Another nice bonus was that there was a small popcorn machine where the popcorn was complimentary and that always makes for a nice snack. A really pleasant experience coming here and I'd love to make a return trip whenever I'm in the area.

He led us to the sitdown restaurant. The restaurant was not supremely busy - at least on the inside. I believe a lot of people were outside because it was a nice day. My buddy got a beer and a shot and we ordered our food. I went with the BBQ Brisket Sandwich. Normally, I get a burger or sliders, but it was on the seasonal menu and sounded good. I got it with a side of cajun tots. Then we waited. And waited. And waited some more. It took over an hour before we got our food. To be fair, an older couple that was seated outside right before we were seated inside got their food and about 7-8 minutes later we got ours, so they were making and delivering the food in the correct order. The large table next to our booth had 9 people and they got their appetizers early and then got the rest of their food after we did (they ordered after us, too). I will say the food was very good. I've read some reviews about the lack of meat on the BBQ Brisket sandwich - which is a whopping $25 -- but mine had enough. It does come on a large piece of sandwich, so the bread will fill you up. I couldn't eat everything and left a handful of tots on the plate, so I'm not complaining. From what I heard, the burger one of my friends got was very good and the beer and shot was tasty (aged whisky, I believe he said). Overall, it is a beautiful place. Fortunately for me, I had an experienced guide, otherwise I would have been lost upon getting out of my car. Lots of side areas for smoking cigars or tequila bars and I wouldn't have known where I needed to go to eat. The food was very good, but it took FOREVER. The waiter we had was excellent as well - he checked on us a few times and he recognized the food was taking a long time, but there's nothing he can do about that. The food came out around the order it appears they were placed, which is as fair as you can get. I would definitely come back now that I know where I'm going. I don't make it a point to visit McMenamin's locations like he does, but this is a nice location, the staff is great, the food is very good, and if you like other McMenamin's locations, I bet you will like this one as well.

The salad had a good portion of grilled chicken and hard boiled egg, with crumbles of blue cheese. I got ranch dressing which was homemade and fresh and let them toss it in the salad. It was a fine salad but not special. Same with the burger, it was ordinary but fine, although the seasoning on the tater tots was a nice surprise. What shocks me is how popular this chain of restaurants is, yet their prices are very high even for the area. Our friendly server came around pretty often even though we were the only ones in that section of the patio. We didn't order a second round, didn't need boxes and eventually she brought the payment kiosk to our table and closed the tab. I guess if we were looking for an event venue, this might be a great place. But given that the menu is the same at every McMenamins, I don't see a reason to check out any of the other locations. I love that they restore historical places and contribute to the local economy, but gastropubs with big prices are not really my jam.

In general, McMenamins is one of the most innovative full service restaurant chains out there. They all feature a long list of draft beers, a full bar, and great friendly service. They brew their own beer and distill a number of spirits. Their Rock Creek Tavern is a gem. It's an enormous cabin-style building, with high ceilings, large weathered beams, comfortable seating (upstairs, downstairs, outside and at a long wooden bar). There's a large fireplace, and a giant wood fired stove in the rear that they fire up on cold days. Check out their rare giant mushroom lamps and long list of eclectic objects on the walls or hanging from the rafters. The Rock Creek Tavern is a short drive north of Hillsboro, OR, on a quiet stretch of NW Old Cornelius Pass Road (a northwest offshoot of the much busier Cornelius Pass Road). This is my opinion -- I'm merely a local customer and a big fan.
