Vertigo Brewing has been on my list forever as many businesses are that I want to try. Partial reason why is that I hardly ever go to the west Portland metro area. But there were other stops to make in this part of town so it worked to swing by here. I experienced two of their beers from this visit. One beer that I had was the Chingona (Badass Woman) which was a Mexican Lager. I do love Mexican Lagers and I am a pretty big snob when it comes to them. This one fell kind of in the middle for me as far as fondness goes. Flavor features with this lager are some biscuity flavor and citrus and a clean aftertaste. The beer is light bodied and smooth. The other beer we had was the Madagascar Vanilla Porter. This was nice porter to have as Autumn is setting in. Flavors in this beer were Vanilla of course, creaminess and sweet. It was light bodied and smooth also. Vertigo Brewing didn't disappoint and was a fun stop to make and if you are touring breweries on this side of town this is a good stop to make. read more

We use this place to play mahjong. They are open and friendly. I am not a big beer drinker, however their Kombucha is very good. They bring a food cart but not every day (See their schedule) . If you know you are going to be hungry, you can bring your own food. read more

My beer knowledge has ebbed and flowed during my time in Oregon. There were years when I went to festivals, curated loops of brewery tours for visiting friends and generally cared way too much about beer. Then there's the point I'm at now, where a new brewery has to legitimately bring something new to the table to get me to break routine or present value that makes it unique in the marketplace. If your pints are $8 to $9 in the taproom, but your four packs of 16-ounce cans go for roughly that at WinCo, I'm not impressed. Settling into a less fanatic approach to beer here has given me more appreciation for breweries like Vertigo and folks like Mike. During the peak of the Oregon beer boom--when banks were throwing stupid money at any business plan that involved beer and legacy brands that sold to disinterested owners just waited for their turn to die--Mike plugged along at Vertigo and kept improving his recipes and offerings. When Hillsboro said "Hey, want to pay way more overhead for a spot downtown that can't fit your tanks?" Mike passed and had food trucks come into his business park. When the Hillsboro Hops said "Hey, want to pay an exorbitant rights fee to have the ballpark ale at the park?" he once again passed and let BridgePort bankrupt itself as a minor league team's official partner. It took about four breweries (also from outside of Hillsboro) to replace it. Mike persists for the reason Orenco Tap House persists and Culmination Brewing persists... he knows full well what it's like to maintain a brewery on your own and keep the place afloat. The brewhouse and DIY tasting room? That used to be a lot more commonplace before brewers started taking out jumbo loans and pouring venture capital into fast-growth, multiple-footprint operations. The growlers and kick-the-keg specials? Yeah, that's how you build something called loyalty instead of playing a turnover game that'll force a rebrand every three years. A menu of beers like blondes, porter, pale ale (that still boosts the baseball team), traditional IPAs and the venerable Razz Wheat aren't "entry level" offerings, but staples for regulars who've been around the horn of hazies, sours, pastry stouts and other exploding-can trends before seeking their forever home. There's a reason why this taproom is a blend of area old-timers and Intel youngbloods... and why Vertigo's offerings have only become more accessible on taps throughout Washington County. A brewery doesn't need to conquer the world to succeed, nor does it need to chase trends to be beloved: It just needs to care about the product it makes, care enough about the people buying it to keep them comfortable and make the occasional concession to the times. Mike started canning because the pandemic called for cans... and buyers grew to like them. Names of beers changed to sound less like seasonals and more like year-round staples. But the core of the business never wavered, and Vertigo's clientele is grateful. Much like many legacy businesses here in the area (Helvetia and Oak Knoll wineries, the Pharmacy, Hale's, etc.), I get the sense that Vertigo's here for as long as Mike wants it to be. Considering how few of his contemporaries had that option (or stuck around to find out), Hillsboro is extraordinarily fortunate to house a brewery of Vertigo's quality and pedigree that remains so vital to its surrounding community. read more

What a hidden gem in what is otherwise a drab part of town. Tucked away in a nondescript business park is an oasis of tasty beers just waiting for you to drink. Vertigo offers a beer for just about any taste. Sit inside or outside and enjoy some great beers. Best of all? Dogs are welcome both outdoors and inside the tasting room. So, don't just blast Cornelius Pass road any longer. Make a turn at the sandwich board in the corner, follow the road to its end and treat yourself to some superb beer poured by very friendly folks. I can't believe I hadn't left a review yet. This is my fave on Hillsboro. Mike and Mike produce excellent. It is in a small industrial park off Cornelius Pass Road. The tasting room is welcoming with excellent and knowledgeable staff. Many events during the month (bingo, trivia, etc) along with food trucks. Wednesday is All Day Happy Hour. Clientele is friendly and welcoming. Dog friendly, but kids must stay outside. My fave is the Closer Pale Ale. Stop by and tell them I sent you. read more

After three or four years living nearby, we finally made the trek to Vertigo. We've always enjoyed their Raspberry Wheat that we'd get on tap elsewhere, but never made it to the taproom itself. My only complaint (and not in their control) is that there is a big private lot between the complexes of Vertigo and Three Mugs. I wish there were a shortcut path between the two because they're both so good and I would love to go between the two faster! On the night of our visit, we had a peach cream ale and a mango Hefeweizen. Both were delicious, light and fruity. The perfect post-run, end of summer beers. I was surprised how big the space was. They have plenty of tables and bar seating. They also have food trucks that come on different days which is a plus. We will be back now that we know where it is! read more

It's a small tasting room with 2 TV's. They have lots of seating and some board games. They let you bring in food from outside and have gatherings there. Last Thursday of the month is gaming night. A group gets together drinks and plays board games. They let you bring in your dogs. Very friendly bunch that will let you try drinks before ordering. They have wine, beer and cider The atmosphere is very laid back and friendly. I usually am uncomfortable at drinking holes due to clientele, but here is totally different. Gave this place one star at the most because their beer selection *looked* good. My husband and I traveled from Northern California to Oregon to explore and visit family and were stoked to try new breweries. My husband owns a brewery and we are always on the lookout to support the locals and try new places especially during this time of COVID. The second we walked into the brewery, the gal working behind the counter was rude and had terrible customer service. We are both understanding of the limitations on things due to guidelines set in place for the beer industry, especially since he is an owner of one himself. We had just come from another local brewery that let us taste, so our expectation was that we'd beable to try a few of the beers. Additionally, I was stoked to buy a shirt to help support. I walked up to the counter excited and told the girl I was going to try a lot because they looked good, her rapid response was "You're not trying any of them." Once again, we are understanding of guidelines but customer service for her is at an all time low. We explained we were bummed and that another place had just let us try a few and she stated in a rude tone, "well that's other breweries, not here." She talked about the issue with "bodily fluids" and basically made us feel like we were disgusting. We are very understanding, but there are ways to communicate to people, especially those who are helping support during this time of need. We didn't expect anything special, just a little bit of humanity and respect! What a bummer, hopefully she's just having a bad day and doesn't talk to others that way. The brewery looked cool. ‍ Better luck at the next place!! She was terribly disrespectful and impersonal. I am disgusted, we unfortunately had a horrible experience. Our family had brought us to the brewery, He spoke very highly of Mike the owners and is personal close friends with him. Multiple times, as he was talking to us, she interrupted him and corrected him and told him he was wrong on his knowledge. My husband and him are both brewers and we're only talking to each other.. And she continued to interrupt, and was so rude and confrontational.... I am so disgusted by our experience... Prior to leaving, my husband spoke to her and told her that we felt disrespected by her lack of customer service. Her response was aggressive and she literally yelled at my husband from inside of the brewery and stated that "her job is to enforce public health and we should not have asked to try any beer because we are trying to kill people because we want to exchange bodily fluids." When she began to raise her voice at my husband, he began to walk out and she literally was yelling at him. I waited outside and could hear her. WOW! What a horrible horrible experience. I hope others speak up about their experiences too and get this gal spoken to... she is wrecking what could be an awesome brewery. How sad. If it fails, the reason is because of her awful customer service. Additionally, we just got home to discover that she had filled up our growers incorrectly and gave us the wrong beer..... This is my favorite watering hole. It gathers a diverse group of craft beer lovers. You will meet people from Intel , Nike retired military and many other walks of life. Bri (in the photo) is the event coordinator. She is ready to pour samples to anyone who asks. The beer is the featured act. Razz wheat is famous for the light and refreshing raspberry taste in a well balanced brew. Friar Mike's IPA is on the high end of IBU but is balanced with a substantial malt which makes it a delicious adult beverage. Uno Mas IPA with three types of hops is simply delicious. Small, local brewery hidden between warehouses off of Cornelius Pass Rd in Hillsboro. They have a variety of beers on tap along with cider, kombucha, and wine. I really liked the Razz Wheat and Tropical Heat Wave, which had a touch of Serrano pepper. The brewery is very low key. Dogs are allowed inside. Minors are allowed only outside when the patio is open and food trucks are present. Otherwise they don't serve food but you can BYO or order delivery. Nice spot for happy hour! read more

Had a blast my first time at Vertigo brewing! My friend and I had just been on a mini beer-cation at the coast and Vertigo was our last stop. We got to the small bar location right around 6pm and it seemed like the perfect place to stop after a long day at work. Lots of really friendly people inside, shuffle board, bring your own food, awesome staff, and great beer. I have tried several of the beers before, but we still went for taster flight of 6: Nut brown Razz wheat Apricot cream Smokestack red Busted head red Vanilla Porter They were all great beers even though the busted head red wasn't my thing, I can tell you with an IBU of 100+ this red will punch a hop head right in face. By far my favorite thing was when I decided to blend my apricot ale with the nut brown... Magic. I call it Apri-nut Ale, and I love it. Great selection, great flavors, but what caught my attention most was every beer had a nice creamy mouth feel, not watery or thin. A find in an industrial park in Hillsboro. Solid brewing all the way around. Fruit beers were simply amazing. The Fresh Razz, Apricot Cream Ale and Razz Heat were all on point and EXCELLENT. The other brews were also solid representations - not to diminish them, but the raspberry and apricot so exceeded our expectations that if everything else scored a 9 or a 10, these scored 12. This place is 5 stars for Hillsboro, so get in here if you are in the area. But had I not been to so many other great 5 star beer places (e.g. Russian River, HUB, Green Flash, Port Brewing), it's hard to compare them to the top elite, but they are very close. If I could give them 4.5 stars I would. What makes these guys great are that they are dedicated to making good beer, and the owners (one of the Mike's) is passionate about the craft and willing to talk to you in their awesome industrial taproom. I enjoyed a sampler of 6 and they also gave me a few small tastes of some others which I appreciated. My tasting notes are as follows (your mileage may vary): * Smokestack Red - tasty and easy drinking. I really liked this one. * Friar Mikes IPA - very solid IPA, not too over the top * Friar Gone Wild Imperial IPA - good, but be careful with this one, as you will go wild if you have too many due to the high ABV * Fresh Hop Harvest - excellent, and reason to come here during the fresh hop fall season * * Tropical Heat Wave - Blonde mixed with key lime pineapple and habenero - this was a pleasantly interesting taste wave... starting with the fruit upfront and followed by some heat at the back. I liked it, but wouldn't have more than one. * Super Dude - Russian Imperial Stout- barrel aged 6 mos, wow... a little potent, but a nice winter warmer to relax with. * The Closer Pale Ale - this pale is quite good, and I love the baseball tap handle. I also tasted their recently kegged Pumpkin ale made with fresh pumpkin which was quite good and refreshing... not that overly spice/nutmeg taste you get in other pumpkin seasonals. Pretty standard. Completely empty on a Saturday evening, which was strange, but whatever. The guy asked us what we wanted the instant we got to the bar and a dude behind us called out that we can try anything before we order it. What a lovely hidden gem! I'm not going to lie, when we pulled up to this place, we were a little confused. It's located in a storage garage type area in the middle of the Portland burbs, but trust the Yelp reviews! This place is awesome inside! It's definitely a no frills, just good beer kind of brewery. They had maybe 15 different beers to choose from at the time, I tried both IPAs and they were delicious. This is one of those places that makes living in Hillsboro a thing that I can deal with. It is in a very unassuming industrial cul-de-sac, all the way at the end of a street. The space is quite, well, industrial, but they have all the amenities one could ever want or hope for in a brewery. Plenty of tables, most quite big. Shuffleboard and a huge table filled with games make this a place that I could spend a lot of damn time in. We ended up grabbing a deck of cards and played a couple of games of war. It was pretty perfect, you guys. I got a tasting board of four brews. It seems like the taps rotate pretty frequently. I tried a red, IPA, imperial, a cider, and a taster of the Uno Mas. I will be having uno mas of that bad boy, and all of them really. High quality stuff. There were two other large groups hanging out at the time and both were playing Cards Against Humanity. "Dizzyingly great handcrafted ales from our brewery to your glass." That's from the front of Vertigo's web page, and I think it summarizes things nicely. A friend has been raving about Vertigo's beer for several weeks now and I, not to be one to deny a micro (or in this case, nano) brewery a shot at tempting my palate, realized I needed to pay them a visit. Out of sheer luck, The Venetian in Hillsboro had Vertigo's "Schwindel Alt" on tap when we visited last weekend. Having already been familiar with Vertigo via my friend's ranting, I was excited to try their Alt. It didn't disappoint. Nutty, earthy, yet crisp and refreshing, it was everything that I find enjoyable about a nice Alt. So, I hatched a plan with my friend to visit their brewery today. What a treat. Their brewery is in a non-descript strip warehouse type deal off of Cornelius Pass Road in Hillsboro. We pulled up to see Mike (one of the founders/co-owners) tinkering around at his desk through the roll-up garage door. There's nothing fancy about this brewery, it's literally all brewing equipment. Don't expect some tasting room lined in fur and leather; Vertigo's space is dedicated solely to brewing beer. Don't let that deter you! So, in we walked to be warmly greeted and asked "what would you like to try?". Oh man, there's no better way to a beer lover's heart than to offer a sample of fresh, cold, quality beer. I tried Friar Mike's IPA, Hop Harvest and an Imperial IPA. Each of which was fantastic, offering Vertigo's unique take on the varying beer styles. The Imperial was particularly wicked. It hits hard with a clean finish and a healthy alcohol content. Mike described it as a "big" beer, to which I could only agree. More Mike: he's a very affable guy. He was happy to discuss lots of things with us, including Vertigo's history (interesting) some of his favorite beers and upcoming events. All of which instantly endeared me to him/them. Listen, the best part about this whole thing, and I mean the BEST, is that I built a house literally right down the street. Okay, a close second best is $10 refillable growlers ($15 initially) of supremely high quality nano-brew. I just can't wait to polish the 2 growlers I bought off and return to try another 2. Their beer is that special. Go out of your way to try it, you won't be disappointed! read more

The beers are all quite good (the Alt was my favorite but I also enjoyed their Hefe and Red) and I highly recommend going for a flight so you can try a variety. OK what I'm reviewing is the tiny little place where you can taste beer, fill and get growlers or your kegs. I have never been the actual retail place if there is one, like a restaurant. This is just tiny little brewing place and I love to go in on the rare chance i get to go in. Love seeing behind the the scenes and how they make beer. Visited this establishment because my friends back in Canada suggested it and my fiancé and I were looking to find good beer for our wedding. As soon as we walked in she asked for ours ID's and my fiancé gave his to her and all was good, then I gave her mine (a BC drivers license from Canada) and she said they don't accept it which was foreign to us because over the past two years of going back and forth to the states I've never had an issue or been told that. And it's fine if that's a law, but she was So rude and abrupt, it was hurtful and makes me not wanna go back and take my business elsewhere. A very disappointing experience! read more
