We talk, he makes some over the phone suggestions. Tells me that he'll need to put the car on a rack/lift, but it should be quick fix -- unless it's not, of course, and we can adjust as necessary. So far, so good. We make an appointment for noon the next day. I pull up about 11:55am. Both racks have cars. Ok, no big deal. The mechanic, oddly, is not around. I speak to his ... i don't know... helper? He gives me some vague answers about when to expect the mechanic to return -- somewhere between a half-hour and who-the-heck-knows. I suggest we call him. What a novel plan! The "helper" calls the mechanic and hands me the phone. I speak to the mechanic -- say that i understand his racks are full, maybe we can just use the hand lifts? my oil pan/filter/etc is right under the engine. Here comes the good part: "Well," says the mechanic. "can you leave it with me?" "I didn't bring a ride," I say. "You'd said this would be a quick thing." "Well, here's the deal," he says. "I'm on lunch right now." You're WHAT? Hey, wow, do you think you're the only person in the world on lunch? Did you think i just slid down a rainbow out of some retirement fantasy-land? This Exxon gas station was OK. It served its purpose…read more We were staying nearby at the Colton Inn on Pacific St and I needed to fill up our rental before returning it. I did a quick Google Maps search. This Exxon popped up a half-mile away and looked good enough. I guess one can consider this the outskirts of downtown Monterey. This is a small Exxon station (eight pumps) at a fairly busy intersection. Due to the limited space, it wasn't the easiest place to pull up to a pump. A big pickup truck was taking up two spaces by itself. I had to reverse next to pump #7 to fill up. The price for regular ($5.459/gal) was expensive, but that was expected. The pump was in good condition and my receipt printed clearly. There was a food truck on-site, next to the Food Mart. I think they were selling bubble tea, IIRC, among other things.

Popped in and told the guy I needed oil which I knew I needed 2 quarts, and if he could just basically tell me the air pressure so I could do it myself etc. I usually have an air pressure gadget in my door but that also had been borrowed by my son apparently. Without saying anything and ignoring what I already said about I had checked the oil, he walked out and I opened the hood and he pulled the dipstick out as I said yeah I already have done that and then went inside and got the 2 quarts that I had already put on the counter. He poured them quickly in and then put air in three of the tires and all of this took about three minutes total. He then proceeded to charge me $25 for that! Absolutely appalling and terrible business practice and honestly just rude on top of everything. To ignore a 69-year-old woman that way and then rip her off was disgusting at best. I will never go back there and I honestly suspect he has had friends/family and locals put these reviews in because he absolutely does not deserve them. I have never been charged for air pressure over the years and I've also never had somebody ignore that I am perfectly capable of pouring the oil in myself and pushing ahead and then slamming me with a $25 bill.
