A while ago-when I first moved into these parts-this 7-11, with a previous owner-lost their liquor license for selling to minors or selling after the cut-off time. Now a owner-Janelle and her family-represent what is good and decent about how to run a great franchise operation, and there is plenty of beer and booze again! . This is a 7-11 that franchisees should aspire to follow. The Loma Palisades 7-11-as it is known as- is a good neighbor and always looks presentable. The parking lot is not an eyesore, the trashcans are emptied regularly, there are not a lot of gang-bangers allowed to gang-bang on the premises, and best of all-the inside is good too. If they run out of something-it usually is in stock next time you go in. There is always fresh coffee in the coffee pots and they feature the best Slurpee flavors that all the kids want. Yeah-there are security cameras everywhere and I miss the good ole days when pictures of shop-lifters and/or thieves would decorate the windows of the store! Even more worrisome, some of these absconders I recognized as doo-doo's from my apartment complex! I loved that Janelle has the cajones to put these up, but maybe some jailbird objected and now they are no longer! Oh well. Sometimes it seems the people they hire for behind the counter look a little worse for wear and that they might be ex-offenders themselves. No matter-the lines at the counter run quickly and the amount of Red Bull and Monster sold to all the emo-kids in line is astounding! I wish that the 7-11 coffee-as good as it is-would jack me up the way Starbucks does, but now I am hooked on the strong, expensive stuff! I have heard the iced coffee drinks are fantastic. This is one 7-11 that feels enjoyable to go into. And that-to me-is saying a lot! Even though there is another 7-11 down West Pt. Loma Blvd.-not even 2 blocks away-this is the 7-11 for me.

Every time I go in, I am greeted. The store is cleaner and more organized and very well stocked.

Bird Rock Coffee, a San Diego native named for the little town in La Jolla known for its rock formations along the coast inhabiting various seabirds, has expanded quite a bit all across the county and this location is just as unique as the others I've visited. Attached to the cafe, you'll get a glimpse into their roasting operations. What started as a micro-roaster, this chain has garnered a following near and far for their single origins, blends, and specialty drinks. As you arrive to this location, you'll find that there's limited parking relative to the size of this building. As you step foot into the shop, you'll understand why - most of their footprint is occupied by their roasting equipment but the dining space is still relatively large compared to more niche coffee shops. Situated with small tables as well as bench tops, during my weekend excursion, there was never a time that it was completely packed so you're bound to find a spot to camp. Outlets are also available from certain spots. Ordering is simple which can be done at the register or online. The menu is quite extensive with all things coffee but consider checking their online menus as I found items like their double cappuccino that wasn't advertised on their physical menus. If you do order through their mobile app, you'll automatically get reward points toward free drinks or food. Speaking of special offers, they also offer birthday goodies so when it's that time of the year, you're in for a treat! I did end up getting the double cappuccino and it was delicious and came out hot with just enough foam to add volume to each sip. If I weren't traveling with so much stuff, I would have considered getting their bags of beans to brew at home. Fortunately, they do offer a subscription and delivery through their website so for those like me looking for a taste from afar, you're in luck! From dark to light roasts, you'll have quite a few options with the notes you desire. The staff were friendly and helpful despite constantly at full capacity. Drinks kept churning out with the same consistent quality and hospitality. Overall, Bird Rock is a local roaster you'll want to check out as their growing operations is a clear result of their consistent product quality, accessibility through its many locations and ordering methods, and excellent service. This location in particular is just blocks away from the huge playground and park next to mission bay, albeit you're better off driving. I was much too full to grab food this around but it may be worth a try to go with the coffee next time. Whether you're a local or just visiting, consider making a trip out and roost on this rock for a while!

Lazy Eye to the rescue! Lazy Eye is sandwiched between two buildings with one table out front. It's a to-go place. When you're that close to the beach, who wants to be inside anyway? While they do offer regular brewed coffee, I'm pretty certain their specialty is all the delicious frou-frou coffee drinks. I usually don't go for them, but today, I was in the mood for it. Their milk chocolate mocha with light ice was delicious It made me very happy and our pup was super happy with the treat they gave him. They have a small bakery display which I passed on since we were getting brunch soon, but I'm sure there's something for everyone there. This location is open 7 days a week- 6:30am-1pm. Limited street parking as expected...it's Mission Beach. 5 stars! Check them out!

In the early afternoon, this place had a line, which is a good sign. The line moved quickly but also gave me time to study their menu to see what I wanted. They specialize in Hawaiian style drinks, so I settled on a Hawaiian matcha. The guy taking me order was super sweet and friendly. I was wearing my favorite Monterey Bay Aquarium sweatshirt and he commented on how that aquarium is one of his favorites! Me too! He asked me what was my favorite thing about the aquarium and I told him the sea otters. I asked what his favorite was and he said the jellyfish exhibition and omg that was soo good! I remember being at that exhibit for awhile as the jellyfish light up and there are so many kinds and so cool to see how they move! In any case, it was so nice to talk about an aquarium we both love!! The Hawaiian matcha was great! I love that they used their Hawaiian syrup in my drink. The drink was pricey, so with oat milk substitution, and a tip, it came to $10. But, think of it this way, you are also using their beautiful facilities and you can lounge here and do work, read, spend some time here. The place is massive, with tons of seating inside (its all open space, so a nice ocean breeze keeps coming thru), and lots of seats outside too! I LOVE THIS PLACE!! I will definitely be coming back here and next time, gonna bring some work and books to read and post up here!!

There is ONE bathroom, and the lock is broken. So apparently after spending $22 on a drink, I'm supposed to sit on the toilet and pray nobody walks in on me. That is a special kind of anxiety no customer should have to experience. A functioning bathroom lock is not some luxury upgrade. It's basic privacy and basic maintenance. A business charging premium prices should be ashamed to leave something this simple unfixed.
