So, I stopped in at Fred Meyers in Snohomish yesterday. Here's my review…read more.. I was INUNDATED with...wait for it...nice and helpful employees. Yep. Okay, I admit, this is not exactly breaking news for those of us who shop here on a regular basis but that doesn't mean it doesn't need to be noticed. For example, let's talk about Kathy at the seafood and meat counter. There was this lovely customer in one of the little motorized shopping carts who needed assistance and Kathy was incredibly kind and helpful. I know, I know, that's her job, but she did it with a smile and a lot of patience. How cool is that? She also made sure to acknowledge me, and other customers as they approached, to make sure we knew she saw us. Like they say, it is the littlest things that are so appreciated. My checker, May, was a sweetheart; helpful, friendly and super-efficient. We got through almost the entire order, and I realized I had forgotten my ID in my truck (apparently 60-ish is the new 21 Hahahaha but having owned a C-Store I have no problem with following a protocol that can be quite expensive if not followed). She could not have been more understanding, pausing my order as I dashed outside to fetch it. No rolling of eyes, no judgement, just a "customer-first/no problem" attitude. And, as I was heading out with my wildly full cart, I couldn't help but notice this gal (I found out her name was "Bella" from Elly, another delightful employee at customer service) who was happily dashing between checkout stands helping bag groceries wherever she was needed. It goes without saying (but it shouldn't) that their produce is fantastic. Their fresh flowers are gorgeous. The Copper River salmon I bought from Kathy was incredible...I could go on and on. Oh, and the lavender plants they had out front for $8.99 a piece? WOW! YAY! I know I can forget how much work it takes to make a big store like Fred Meyers run well. I also believe it is proof positive of great management within that store when it does. Employees who trust in their bosses work harder. It's just human nature. We are blessed to have this particular store in our town. Go there, you will agree.

A small line formed for the donuts made in-house while I was picking out my item. I went with an individually packaged cinnamon roll from the breakfast table. Price pre- and with tax was $1.99 and I was able to pay via self check-out, which opened to customers after I arrived and before I checked out. The parking lot was large and workers friendly. It was a cinnamon roll with a hearty portion of cream cheese frosting, which as a cream cheese frosting enthusiast I quite enjoyed. The roll itself was well cooked and the cinnamon not too overpowering after the first of couple bites. It came in a tight bowl of sorts within the main container, which made eating the cinnamon roll much less messy than it might have been without the bowl.

This is one of the longest operational grocery stores around, as a kid, I used to ride my bicycle across town to pump quarters into the arcade that was just a few doors down. This was the Marysville mall. And while it wasn't huge, it was ours! I was more of the huffy mountain bike kind of kid, but the cooler kids, the Mongoose BMX kids, with the longer hair, the broken arms, the "I don't need no stinking bandaids" now they could play StreetFighter on one quarter like all day! I'd be like 5 bucks in and still getting killed! But after a while they got to like me a bit, they showed me "Spook Woods" and the awesome bike trails. I huffy'd the wheels off that bike their, even got myself a scar or two... Anyway, I finished up my shopping and went thru the self check, it was the day after Easter and they had some left over Mylar balloons, Gina saw my son with me and gave him a bunny balloon! Such a cool store, so many awesome people!

When seeking assistance at the register I get completely blown off by the cashier with no apology or attempt to make it right, just a very rude "do you want it or not" If there is a price next to an item and every item in that slot is the same you should honor that price and if it's wrong FIX IT and put up the right price. Every avocado in the area was the same and the price listed was 3.49 but rang up at 4.49 and then just told oh yeah we started carrying a different kind. I will not ever shop here again.

The holiday shopping vibes were clearly present in the store, as I saw people grabbing multiples of the same items to stock up. As usual, the employees were friendly and efficient. Even though the store was crowded, they were able to move the lines very quickly. Overall, I'm still very happy that Trader Joe's is able to keep its prices down in this economy.
