Paired with their homemade white cream (which I made sure not a drop went to waste! ) and a drizzle of syrup, it was the perfect combination! Their coffee was delicious as well! My daughter ordered the strawberry shortcake waffles but was so intrigued by my chicken and waffles that she asked for a half side of chicken to try it herself. She had never experienced the combination before, and needless to say, she LOVED it! My boyfriend ordered a burger, and let me tell you, I glanced over a few times, and by the third look, that burger had completely disappeared! Safe to say he enjoyed every bite! My daughter's best friend went with sunny-side-up eggs, a protein, and fresh fruit in place of potatoes. There was truly a little something for everyone! And the hospitality? Just as wonderful as the food! Amanda was an absolute sweetheart. She was incredibly attentive, warm, and welcoming, making us feel right at home. All-in-all, this might be the "jewel of Martindale" and close enough to Austin to justify a trip out for some variety. Traffic and parking were not a problem. While you're in the area, take the road down the steep embankment and across a wood bridge over the pristine San Marcos River. The sign says "Private," but that should be read as "dead-end" rather than "don't try this." It's right down the street from the restaurant.

A few minutes after entering we were greeted by a man working there. He was friendly and told us that they were closed and had just shut down at 3:00 pm. My husband then asked about their coffee beans. He told us that if that was all we wanted then he'd sell some to us. My husband looked at the choices, picked the blend that he wanted, we paid and then left. This is a nice coffee lounge with a laid back atmosphere and friendly service. Ironically, we were on the campus of Texas State university today for another reason and the car stopped at Mochas & Javas. It is definitely a "go to" spot for students, locals, and visitors. The back story...Kevin Carswell founded Mochas & Javas 2003 and the very first two San Marcos locations were opened together with his brother, Kirby Carswell, and both of their wives...therefore, truly a family-owned business. The restaurant is large with an open atmosphere created by the tall ceilings and windows. This location can easily be a study location, friend meet up, or where good food and great conversation are needed. Without a doubt the coffee is the highlight at Mochas & Javas. The menu offerings include an assortment of espresso drinks, brewed coffee, cold brew, teas, and seasonal specials. Our personal favorites include the salted caramel mocha and pecan pie latte.
