Kerbey Lane Cafe is an Austin favorite and it's where we went for our Mother's Day Brunch…read more This location is in the middle of downtown San Marco on the river. We called early in the morning and made reservations for 11:00am and we were seated right away. The servers are friendly and very patient. It's breakfast or lunch your choice. They have a nice menu of beverages and today's choice was cinnamon swirl latte. For breakfast I ordered Harvest (V, GF) breakfast with a blueberry pancake and fruit on the side. This omelet was filled with avocado and was really good. I have been to other locations and they are consistent. Overall it was enjoyable.

Definitely not the best first impression. HOWEVER... once they realized the mistake, we were seated immediately, so I'll give credit where it's due. Now for the good stuff--the food and the vibes saved this whole experience. The restaurant itself was super cute and honestly a whole aesthetic. It gave this modern 21st-century feel mixed with subtle 70s vibes--very stylish, warm, and just a really fun atmosphere to be in. And the FOOD? Worth it. The Migas plate was absolutely bomb--hands down my favorite dish. My husband's steak and eggs came in strong right behind it, and the French toast was also really good. The pancakes were a little overhyped in my opinion, not bad, just didn't live up to the hype. Even the appetizer and my martini were on point. Which, by the way I ordered my Migas plate with green chili sour cream sauce on the side because other reviews did not look good of the Migas with it mixed in/smothered on top, but after trying it, I ended up LOVING it. Was so good !!! Overall, everything from the vibe to the food delivered...just don't fully trust the wait time you're given 4.5/5 because the kitchen and aesthetic carried, not the front-of-house timing.

Tried out Commerce Cafe in Lockhart and had a really solid experience overall. The roasted airline…read morechicken breast was absolutely amazing--perfectly cooked, juicy, and full of flavor. The glazed carrots had a light maple taste that paired really well with the dish. The temperature in the restaurant was perfect, which made the whole experience even more comfortable. Service was spot on too--Anna took great care of us and was incredibly patient as we shared stories and even offered a few decor suggestions. She was attentive without being overbearing. The music was great and set at just the right volume, which made it easy to relax, enjoy the meal and hear the conversation. That said, the decor could use a bit of improvement. No offense to the artist, but the prints felt a little odd and too small for the wall space. The overall layout of the restaurant could also be better--it didn't feel as cohesive as the food and service deserved. Also, the hardwood seats could use some padding for both the back and bottom to make longer visits more comfortable. All in all, definitely worth checking out for the food and atmosphere, with just a few areas that could be elevated.

My…read moresorority used to meet on the Texas State University campus and this coffee shop was one of our "go to" places. Ironically, we were on the campus of Texas State university today for another reason and the car stopped at Mochas & Javas. It is definitely a "go to" spot for students, locals, and visitors. The back story...Kevin Carswell founded Mochas & Javas 2003 and the very first two San Marcos locations were opened together with his brother, Kirby Carswell, and both of their wives...therefore, truly a family-owned business. The restaurant is large with an open atmosphere created by the tall ceilings and windows. This location can easily be a study location, friend meet up, or where good food and great conversation are needed. Without a doubt the coffee is the highlight at Mochas & Javas. The menu offerings include an assortment of espresso drinks, brewed coffee, cold brew, teas, and seasonal specials. Our personal favorites include the salted caramel mocha and pecan pie latte. Mochas & Javas also have complementary food to accompany the javas. The good news is that breakfast is served all day including pancakes, egg plates, breakfast sandwiches, paninis, salads, and baked goods. The Classic breakfast sandwich, our selection, was quite tasty. The servers are friendly and welcoming...super fast. Great "go to" shop...
