Do NOT take your car here if it is old. I had to smog my 1986 Civic Si. It passed just fine but they failed be because they couldn't find the timing mark. Okay, fair enough, doesn't seems like a problem. So I take it to my mechanics shop and we clean the pulley and find the marks (very easily). I take it back the next day for my free retest and the guy accuses me of tampering with it and won't retest it until I get a new pulley. That's when I said screw it and took it to another smog place, they passed me just fine. Cheaper to retest it than to get a used pulley... go figure. Bottom line if your car is new I bet they are okay but for a car that needs to be put on the dyno it seems to be out if their league. I also saw another review saying the same thing about them not being able to find a timing mark... poor mechanics imo. read more

I had found this place on yelp, and it seemed to have great reviews! So when I received the letter from the DMV requiring me to do a smog check - 7 Days A Week Smog Test seemed like the natural choice. I made sure to get there as soon as they opened - b/c let's face it, no one wants to sit there all day for something that doesn't take that long. Needless to say, I was the first person there. I was promptly greeted by Damien and he got started on my car right away!!! He helped me get in and out very quickly and efficiently! I explained to him that I had recently moved to the bay, and asked him for recs for where I should take my car for any basic service needs and he was more than happy to give me a few recs! Returning to California with my motor vehicle, and I needed a SMOG test (regular, not STAR) to get my car re-registered. My dad sent me on a wild goose chase on San Pablo Ave. and Harrison/Gilman on a Sunday morning with a cash-only paper coupons, $25, and no names for these businesses (or phone numbers for that matter). No surprise they were closed. Yelp and good reviews to the rescue! I saw 7 Days a Week Smog Test, filtered to know they were open on Sundays, called, and basically walked in. It took 9 minutes for them to test my car and just under 20 minutes for end-to-end process. They had outdoor and indoor seating, free beverages (coffee, tea, soda water, etc.), and crackers. They might have had wifi... Basically, they couldn't honor the $25 cash-only, but they did say $25 + $8.25 and even let me pay with American Express. I thought that quick service turn around was pretty good. I'm sure they'd honor the same deal for you if you mentioned Groupon, as they have a deal there. So anyhow, I was pleased at the quick and expedient service on a Sunday morning. I used to love this place...must have changed hands. It was 64 dollars for my 2015 Prius. I gave the man at the counter (the same one pictured in Susan S's review) my 20 dollar off coupon and he said that price included the coupon. It was raining and my smog result was due in 3 days and I was the only one there being tested, so I stayed. I tried to go into the lounge but a large, young male ( I'm a woman in my seventies) had taken over the lounge. He was watching a computer video and had the heat cranked up to about 80 degrees. When I asked him if I could turn it down he balked. I asked him if he was cold and he said yes. I got my umbrella and walked to the post office to mail a letter. I will never go back to this place. I drove all the way from Bile Vallejo to get my car smog on a Sunday with my Groupon but after I arrive the gentleman tells me that they don't except Groupon's on Sunday. This is not stipulated in the instructions for the Groupon. He said I should have called yet on the Groupon you're not required to make an appointment so why would I called if they're open seven days a week they should except their Groupon seven days a week. I couldn't get my car smog before the registration ran out because someone stole my catalytic converter and I had to have that replaced. But this guy even though there was only one car in front of me refused to take me because he said he was busy there was not a line of cars waiting to get their car smog so I don't understand how he could've been busy! read more

Apparently their posted hours of 8am-6pm are inaccurate. I drove in the rainy dark to get there before 6pm. Arrived at 5:35pm. Lights on, machines obviously ON in the garage. Some guy was there, but noone else. I drove up, and he says, "Sorry, we are closed. We take the last car at 5:30pm. The machines are off." The test takes 15 minutes. Really? Why does everything say you close at 6pm then? And why do I see the test screens on? Also, are you seriously unable to turn a machine back on? Apparently not. wth. read more

The business is clearly marked from the road. Signs direct you where to park which is great. I was greeted by the technician Scott and directed to the desk. The paper work was straight forward and easy to fill out. Scott gave me what I felt was an honest estimate of how long the process would take and for me to be back on the road. The waiting room is nice and has free coffee (sugar and cream), hot chocolate, soda, tea, and crackers. There is free wifi with signs indicating the password. After 35 minutes, exactly what Scott promised, my vehicle was ready. I paid the amount due and received my copy of the test that was also sent to the dmv. I recommend this place to anyone in the Oakland Berkeley area in need of a smog check. A++ work! read more

We brought our 4Runner here for a smog check on a Sunday afternoon. We were helped immediately. The person helping us was very friendly and told us that it would be done in 25 minutes. He asked us how we heard about their shop and we told him that we found them on Yelp. They had a current promotion on Yelp where you get $20 off if you mention them. We were not aware of this. Very pleasant surprise. Total cost afterwards = $54 They had a nice chairs/umbrella setup outside with magazines where customers could wait on a warm day which it was today. There was sitting inside as well for cooler days. We waited maybe 15 minutes which flew by quick while relaxing outside in the seating area. Will upload a photo. Our car passed smog. Best experience we've had at a smog place. Friendly service, clean garage, knowledgable, nice customer waiting area, and just made us want to come back again to them even they are not in our local neighborhood. Definitely worth the drive. As far as smog goes this place is not too bad. Staff was super friendly and knowledgeable. I did have to go back for a re-test due to my car needing a catalytic converter, but it did pass, yeah! What was nice was the fact that I was able to walk over to Cafe Trieste and enjoy my day while they were checking my car, but they'll see you right away if there's not a wait. This is a test only place and will not work on your car if need be, you must find an outside mechanic. But to my eyes they did seem like they did a proficient job. I really hate dealing with smogging my cars. CARB sucks! But that's a whole nother story. read more

Even though they were short-staffed that day and there were 2 people in front of me, it took about 20 minutes for me to get in and out, with absolutely no hassle at all. I just gave them my keys and the smog certificate thingie I got in the mail, and they came back 20 minutes later to have me sign a form and I was out the door. This place really is "as good as it gets!" I highly recommend this place. The guys here were super cool, and very quick with the smog test. Paper work was whipped up in a snap, and I was on my way.
