This is SUCH A HILARIOUS YELP PAGE. I was in the passenger seat with a friend and my friend said that there's always some BS on the 605, I went to Google it and lo and behold the 605 has a YELP PAGE LMAO. Any and everything can exist in this world. And you know, my friend is right, there's always something going on here to be honest. It's congested, you get a view of the brown drought "nature" of California if not just buildings, warehouses or suburban sprawl or shopping plazas galore, and maybe you get a splash of green from Rose Hills, but it is what it is. If you're from SoCal, this is a necessary evil. As a big, congested, heavily used freeway, there's accidents, traffic, closures, debris left here and there, rubber necking and all of the evils, as it always is. read more

The 605 Freeway (I-605) is hands-down one of the most frustrating and dangerous freeways I've driven on. Chronic poor road conditions, confusing lane markings, and lingering safety hazards make every commute a gamble. Key Issues * Ghost markings from old construction projects remain highly visible, creating phantom lanes that mislead drivers and trigger sudden swerves--especially at night or in heavy rain. * Potholes, uneven pavement, and abrupt lane shifts are rampant, particularly between the I-405 and I-10 interebilirsinizchanges, forcing vehicles to slow unpredictably and heightening rear-end collision risks. * Frequent construction zones with little warning, missing signage, and detours that dump drivers into gridlocked surface streets add to the chaos. * Heavy truck traffic (it's a key freight corridor to the Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles) combined with narrow shoulders leaves zero margin for error. What Needs to Happen 1. Immediate re-striping--grind off the old markings and apply high-visibility thermoplastic. 2. Targeted repaving in the worst segments (e.g., southbound near Rose Hills Rd.). 3. Smart signage--overhead dynamic message boards warning of upcoming lane shifts and construction exits. 4. Dedicated truck lanes during peak hours to separate big rigs from passenger vehicles. Until Caltrans and LA Metro treat the 605 like the critical artery it is--instead of a perpetual construction zone--this freeway will remain a rolling hazard. If you can avoid it, do. If you can't, stay hyper-alert, keep extra following distance, and report hazards via the Caltrans QuickMap app. read more

The 605 freeway is one of five freeways that I take to travel either north or south in the greater LA area. It sits farther inland than the 405, 110, and 710 freeways. I usually find more stops along this freeway than the 710, as it runs through the nicer parts of Long Beach, Lakewood, and Downey. The southern end leads mr to the 22 freeway, which takes me to the VA medical center on the west, and the OC on the east. The northern boundary of this freeway leads to Duarte and other communities at the foot of the mountains. Taking the 210 from this freeway eastward will land you to Mt Baldy and the Inland Empire. The 605 is somewhat comparable in traffic to the 710, but I often found it less disgusting by air quality. The air this far inland will not be as great as the coastal towns, but it's more tolerable. Traffic can shift, depending on the time of day. Much like any LA freeway, an accident on the road will increase your commute between 30 minutes to an hour more. The rubberneckers make this so. If I'm travelling inland, I prefer this freeway over the 710, but I still prefer the 405 and 110 over inland freeways overall. read more

The 605, which takes you from the 210 all the way to the 405. From the northern terminus and down, it is one of three N-S freeways that actually takes you to the 210 in the LA area. The 5, the 57, and the 605. (Yes you have the 15 in the IE but :P ) The current 605 North ramp to the 10 is terrible. There is a lot of construction there and then there is usually a long line of cars and other cars who are angry and cross the line there as well. So be careful there. The same is said at the 60 Westbound heading to the 605 North. Two lanes to merge quickly in a few seconds time. You better watch out! It does then pass through Rose Hills and then through the quiet Pico Rivera area. After heading past the 5 freeway, it is the eastern terminus for the 105 Freeway, which all of us in Socal know as the freeway to LAX. I haven't been south of that, so nothing I know about that but I do know it does end at the 405! read more

I actually LIKE this fwy...takes me to all my fave hiking trails and everything in between. I'm all over the place in LA County, this has to be one of the better freeways for me. I'm on this freeway at least once a week or more. I take it to get to Long Beach all the time, and I take it to get to the San Gabriel mountains for hikes. I also travel it to get to Whittier. Even during rush hour, it's bearable. Been driving this freeway since I can remember. Actually, it's the first freeway I drove before I got my license! HAHA memories :) Seems silly to review a freeway, but after having driven every single other freeway around Los Angeles, I think I might like this one the best. read more

Wow people yelp freeways too? I guess it should never cease to amaze me what you can yelp about on yelp.com... but anyways, I always drive the 605, 210, 10 freeways most frequently (since I am from the SGV area). I have no issues with the 605 as it takes me to numerous of places (from point a to b and occasionally to point c). The only ugly part of the 605 is all of the traffic before and after work. But how is that the freeway's fault? It's the people who all get off of work at pretty much the same time that causes all of the traffic. It is the people who refuse to take public transportation who rather sit in traffic, contribute to traffic. It is the people who get into car accidents or causes car accidents that contribute to the traffic. Not sure I could say that there would be a better freeway since pretty much most freeways are just about the same (of course some have that special transporter that you have to put in your car to pay for special toll roads but it's still made of cement and still gets you to places you need to go). read more

Well this is one of the most important Freeways in So Cal. Without a doubt it provides me with a quick trip more often than not. What else is nice about it is that i only need to avoid it on a limited basis. Weekday mornings southbound from the SGV till about 6:30-9am and northbound afternoons from 4-6pm are the times to avoid this freeway. PRO TIP: The 605 connector to the 210 has high traffic hour signals that tremendously slow down traffic avoid them at all costs if you can. The overall condition is excellent IMHO compared to any other freeway in LA County it is the nicest and I feel that it isnt even remotely close... In fact they are in process of rebuilding the 605/405 connector right now. This freeway connects the 405, 91, 105, hwy 90, 5, 60, 10, and 210. Talk about an important vertical connector. So what else can we say about the fabulous freeway, the 605 of Madness and crashes crazy people driving like a bunch of lunatics before we even get to the freeway we want to get on. I wanted to see if my voice commands would efficiently write out this review without me having to edit it. Who knows what it's going to end up looking like. But an adventure of writing a Yelp review is always exciting one. Of course now everything is perfect as opposed to my reviews I did earlier where I had to correct every other word. And I'm definitely not slurring in this one or that previous one. man is this freeway ever crazy with all these darn trucks. Why the heck do they think they have the right to drive in the fast lane, okay I admit it I'm not a California and I hate traffic. But then again traffic in New York is insane so of course why do you think we walk it and Subway it?!? So I guess realistically it doesn't matter how many stars I give the 605 Freeway, because people will take it whether I like it or not. This freeway is not a beautiful freeway. When you're heading north, there's a beautiful view of the San Gabriel Mountains, but you're reminded of just how far away you are from that natural paradise by the hundreds of trucks and SUVs swooshing by you, the miles and miles of telephone wires strung overhead, the ugly industrial concrete suburbs you're passing through. There are so many billboards along this freeway, for things like injury lawyers, fried chicken, a cemetery (rated #1 in the country apparently), beer. Which are all good things, but like, why are your billboards so ugly? Why is this freeway so aesthetically unpleasing? Why must we all zoom along it day after day like little rats in big cars? 3 stars because not a lot of traffic. Probably because people are in a hurry to be done with it, and extra extra careful not to prolong the pain by getting into an accident. read more

I am a filmmaker.... so everytime I drive south o the 605 freeway I thing of shots. It is a beautiful freeway to drive south on. It goes past a vast array of rubble pits and quarries... all with the red sun blasting on them at 7 O Clock. In heavy traffic from Arcadia it is best to take Baldwin to Glen Oaks and then then get on the 605 from there, which becomes Peck. In light traffic nothing is faster to the Pamona Freeway. but otherwise this is a great way to cross San Gabriel Valley going South.There is still construction which slows things down, but if you catch it out of traffic it is fast. read more

I'm a Coloradan- and damn proud of it! But this highway in California is pretty cool with lots and plenty mountain view and a butt load of traffic. We couldn't pass this traffic since coming back from San Bernardino to Los Angeles. It's busy around 8pm, that's pretty inane. I'm glad I'm not driving because it's a pain in the arse. But as a tourist thing, it's aiight. read more

My heart pounds whenever I merge from the 10 freeway to the 605. Drivers are relentless these days. That split second where I need to change lanes to stay on the right freeway is so intense. This my favorite freeway ever! You drive through some awesome cities such as Seal Beach, El Monte, Los Alamitos, Duarte, and more. This freeway doesn't have much traffic, making it an easy freeway to drive on. It is exits to other freeways including the 60 and 10. There are so many destinations to visit that are so close to this freeway. The first ever In N Out Burger is nearby here too. read more
