Right now 6/6-6-8 2025, it's free buses on any metro bus or train. Free parking on the weekends in the parking lot. Weekdays is $2/day. Cheaper than LA union station which is $8/day. Very hard to navigate. Google maps says they come at this time but we had to wait 10 min longer. None of the buses came at that time 8:36am. Also we weren't late either. We came at 8:29am. Google maps says Bay 25 but the driver was picking people up in Bay 19. I'm glad caught the bus or else Bay 25 is the other side of the bus stop and maybe it wouldn't even stop. Going to downtown, we had a helpful individual that said any one of these buses on the upper lots can get you there. There are stations on the bottom of the train stations so be on a look out of where your ride is located. Either upper or lower deck. read more

It was Dirty, it smelled bad, forget using that bathroom or allowing children in that bathroom, i was VERY DISSAPOINTED! there was a homeless man living on our bus to Las Vegas! taking a trip with kids under these conditions is extremely unsafe or anyone alone for that matter is dangerous. Besides the fact that the elevator smells like piss, it's a fairly well-designed and recently rebuilt transit center. Metro buses board on the underground level, whereas Silver Line (J Line) and Silver Streak buses board upstairs. If you haven't tried the Silver Line/Silver Streak to Downtown LA, you must. Since it travels in a dedicated busway along the 10 freeway to CSULA, County USC hospital, and then Union Station, it is lightning fast -- 15 minutes from El Monte to Union Station, which is definitely faster than driving. Metro should publicize this service more (but they don't). You can also park at El Monte for $2/weekday, or $39/mo (and free on weekends), which is a fraction of what it costs to park in Downtown LA. Give it a try. You won't regret it once you get the hang of it. read more

The man from El Monte says that you should just ride the Greyhound into El Monte for the hell of it. Even though most people terminate (like Arnie) at the downtown location, and then ride local transit here. In East Los Angeles is an extremely fancy and beautiful and modern facility where they've done a great job of creating a futuristic space age centre that would be at home in any of the fancy rich areas of Los Angeles. I love LA, and governing bodies are nice like that, giving the parts of the area that really use a lot of buses some of the better facilities and some of the better lines. So East LA, as poor as it is, gets one of the best bus terminals ever, because they use buses more than most Los Angelenos. Bravo. I appreciate that about them, and the residents of El Monte surely appreciate that too. It's definitely a much better bus stop than you would expect, and the Greyhounds as well as all the regional transit stop here and so they should. I like the Bus station here from transitioning back and fourth to Downtown Los Angeles back in the days when I worked in Downtown Los Angeles. So many different buses going in different directions. Even the trains as well. I just hate that they do not maintain their escalators always breaking down. I am not being a lazy ass, but I do not feel that I need to run up stairs in trying not to miss my next train or bus. That is where alot of the money we pay to ride these busses and trains should be going in maintaining all the stations that break down. All in all, I like the station. read more

Today the escalators and elevator was out of service, not the first time this happened. This station is not ADA compliant. For people with walkers, wheelchairs or crutches it's impossible for them to get from the bottom floor to the top floor to leave the station. I witnessed a woman with a walker having to leave via the area where the buses enter and exit. Shame on whoever runs this station. Perfect example of the lack of compassion in our society. Definitely improved since the renovation, parking in the main lots usually fill up by 9 am on most weekdays, usually Wednesday being the busiest in which you're lucky to even get a spot! If you're in a hurry, I recommend heading straight for the overflow parking lot in the next block south of the station. (But you never know, some people do leave!) The bike hub is a nice added feature, and the staff seem helpful enough. There are maps and screens that can also help you find your bus terminal. Plenty of security patrolling the area, especially near the back lots since there is a bike path that connects from there. The only qualms I have is during rush hour and those nasty speed bumps. There is only one way in, and one way out. With foot traffic blocking the intersections it can become a hassle. Those speed bumps, seem like they're built to ruin your tires and suspension. I understand that it's for safety, but I know you can also create speed bumps that aren't as damaging too. read more

I like this bus station till recently they make very bad policy change in the parking lot. They require every transit to paid $2 parking. It is not end of the world but the issue I have is now they restrict the structure and the lot in the back for employee only. Usually when you paid for something you get more in return, in this policy change it actually you get less back since is less parking now. There's no structure available for transit, the parking spot are very tight and there are many parking lot incident here. At top of that is wasted of time that you had to go pay in the parking machine and basically mean you gonna miss a bus especially for silver line. They might be actually losing transit because I notice the bus isn't as crowded and they had to hired several staff in the parking machine and check for license plate. read more

Well, I only ride the Metro Silver Line at the El Monte Bus Station, which is where it begins and goes through Downtown LA and all the way down to San Pedro. Buses have a dedicated lane on the freeway, so you get around pretty well. If I went to CSULA, it would've been interesting because the Silver Line is a good way to travel, especially with a school bus pass. There's a lot of buses at this station, none of which I ride, and there's even a stop for Greyhound. It's pretty well-lit and seems to have a lot of folks around, but I'm never there that late. It's a bit confusing since you have to travel up and down the escalator once or twice to get to the area you need to, so watch it. read more

There is plenty of parking spaces, security, and helpful staff if you are lost or have questions. #1 thing I like most is how secure I feel when traveling home around or post midnight after a concert or when I'm out with friends and don't plan on driving. All patrons are informed whenever there are changes to the lines, improvements to the system or if some buses are operating on a holiday schedule. Keep your Tap card fed, and pay attention to its expiration date and you'll be fine. Also, give yourself enough time to park and hustle to your stop! There is a lot of ground to cover! I have been taking the bus for about a month now, got out of work and walked to my bus stop 190 headed to El Monte train station. On Ramona/ Baldwin park blvd. as I try to get into the bus the lady driver tells me no mask no entry... This is the first time I hear this out of all the drivers I've gotten, and they were also 15-20mins late 6:48pm... just ended up walking 2 hours home... The El Monte Bus Station is quite convenient for me to travel the Metro Transits. It's so easy, and I wish more L.A. people would take advantage of this transit system whether it's for work or leisure... at least do it sometime to save yourself some gas, and it's a great way to go green! You first need to buy a one time bus card which resembles a gift card before you can charge the card. They have one day passes for $5.00, and monthly ones for a specific amount which I don't believe is expensive. The $5.00 all day pass gives you unlimited MTA bus rides, and Metro Line rail rides around the county. Union Station in Downtown Los Angeles is the midpoint of every destination since all the Metro Lines, buses, and Silver Line Buses meet at this location. Going back to the El Monte Bus Station, it is about a ten minutes drive there. The bus station has a huge parking structure for you to park your car before going on the Metros. Each metro ride is around $1.25, but a day pass for five bucks is well worth it. You will then take the Silver Line Bus to Union Station in Downtown Los Angeles. The Silver Lines runs every 15 minutes during the day, and probably once every 30 to 40 minutes at nights. If you simply want to go on a bus from El Monte, that will work too. You need to read the signs on the buses and figure out which bus stop they will be stopping. I found this to be a bit confusing because there are so many buses coming in and out. But I guess if the you are a regular bus rider, it should be a breeze. The bus station is still quite new from the style of it. It seems very modern with a nice parking structure, and self service pay kiosks. The station is huge and accommodating. However, it's not used to capacity from the empty offices observed while there. But at least it's well lit, and there are always people there. Go Green! :) read more

Definitely a great way to commute, especially if you are driving into Downtown Los Angeles. I spent a week driving into DTLA for work - paying $15 a day for parking, 45 minutes to an hour in traffic, and most importantly, I was killing my patience! So, I finally gave the metro a chance. It was definitely very frightening at first, but people working at the station were kind and gave me directions. A commute from El Monte to DTLA is $2.50 one way, so $5 for a round trip. It takes approximately 35-45 minutes driving into DTLA (there are stops along the way to DTLA). If it is your first time taking the metro, you can buy a tap card for $1 and load however much you need to. You can also skip that and just drop exact change at the meter inside the bus. If you arrive before 9am, you'll find parking right around the station. If you arrive anytime after that, you're out of luck and should just park off site. It's a 5 minute walk, so it's not bad. I didn't discover this place until much later. I use to circle the parking lot for 15 minutes trying to find a spot. I eventually gave up and went to park my car on residential streets. However, when you see how shady they are, you'll want to drive back to the station. The off site parking lot is located between the station and the 10 freeway. It still feels a big sketchy, but it is truly the metro station's parking lot. Tip for the El Monte Bus Station: spend some money to fix that lot...that would make everyone more comfortable! When you walk pass the front entrance, you will take some stairs heading down. If you're going to DTLA, you will have to walk back upstairs to the other side. Very confusing, but it contributes to your 10,000 steps a day! Overall, a great commute to get into DTLA or anywhere you desire. I plan on using it as much as I can! read more

My first time since I was kiddo taking the Metro to DTLA for jury duty and had a great experience. I needed to meet my person by 6:45am and as usual I was too early. While waiting for him, I went to the kiosk and bought my Metro card. I believe you don't have to buy a card as you can still drop money on the bus. I didn't mind buying one for $1 as I may need it in the future. I opted to buy the all day pass for $7 (plus $1 for card) as I wasn't quite sure where else I may go. My person finally arrived and we headed to the bottom level and got in line for the Silverline. The buses arrive quite often and boarding and getting a seat was no issue. There are about 3-4 stops before you hit DTLA but leaving from the stating at 7am, I was only 5 minutes late for jury duty. The ride is approximately 30 minutes...at least to the courthouses. There is stop in front of City Hall and another closer to Stanley Mosk. I got off at City Hall and walked to Stanley. Once my day was done, walked back and soon the Silverline arrived and I boarded. I have to say, it's was very nice not battling traffic today. Just got on, found a seat and relaxed. I definitely enjoyed my Metro ride and if I ever work in DTLA, this may be the way to go! Note-of course there are many many different routes, I shall learn others but for now, getting to and from DTLA was a breeze. read more

In addition, the parking structure and the lots in the back are now restricted to "authorized vehicles," but remain empty most of the day. Much safer than what it used to be that I have no problems arriving here at night. There's security all around and plenty of parking. The outdoor lots right outside the station are the first to fill up, so drive near the parking garages in the back and you'll find more parking. I usually take the Silver Line or the Silver Streak which stops at Union Station and from there you can connect to the Metro Rail System. I do wish there was some walkway that connected street level to the upper level of bus stops. It just seems a waste to have to go down a bunch of stairs or the escalator, then take the stairs or escalator up to get to the same level. Otherwise, safe and great way to connect to SoCal's public transit system! read more

Poorly built, designed and managed. Buses take forever in the busy morning forcing you to wait and forming large lines in the cold or the rain. Parking is a pain in busy times because the way they designed the pedestrian crossings make it a nightmare to get in or exit. They post two speed limits which is 15 and 8mph and i dont know how they came up with 8mph. The El Monte Bus station is located right off the 10 freeway in El Monte. I came by here and transferred from the Silver Streak onto the 481. Very convenient, and the station was very clean and well kept. It's quite large and many buses run through there to exchange the passengers. Fortunately for me both buses were on time which made the travel easy for me, not sure if this is the case with all of the bus lines, but the Silver streak and 481 transfers seemed very seamless last week. I would love to say the I had an awful long rainy day. I was on the metro 264 bus and left my purse with my life in there. I can't say that it's been perfect with the bus company including metro and foothill but it has really been more than pleasant these days since I'm on a walker now. I did call my phone once but it rang into voicemail so at that point I started to pray that the young girl sitting across from me would pick up my purse and give it to the bus driver. My roommate had me call one more time later that night after making a report online and canceling my bank card. Well what do you know the bus driver answers the phone letting me know where to pick up my purse and it was in the front office waiting for me well not the front office but the lunch room where the bus drivers hang out what a wonderful God I serve He was watching over me and my belongings the whole time thank you bus driver Mark badge 95519 God Bless You and the young girl who turned in my purse. I have to use this bus station facility every single day and let me tell you shame on the management here, and what is up to the design? it's bad enough that you have to run down and then up to catch your bus the restroom facilities???? What a joke they have some ridiculous restrooms that automatically slowly close and lock the metal doors but one restroom is closed- Out of service for 2 weeks now? What the heck? There are thousands of people that go through this place every day and have the necessity to use the restroom. Bad customer service. I'm new to using Metro and I asked the women helping me if the pass I was purchasing was for a certain bus and she said yes, I asked her three times. I load the card and head to the bus only for the TAP card to not work. After work I go and ask what is the problem and they tell me it's not for the bus line...I now have to wait and call to see if the customer service line can help. I am giving this station one star because the customer service phone number doesn't work and I want to complain about a greyhound bus driver who almost caused a car accident. I was on the 10 freeway right now going west bound in the second lane while the bus was in the fourth lane. He made one lane change and he almost hit me while trying to get in my lane. Took the sliver line for the first time to a concert. The parking staff was great and told me which parking lot was better to parking in. The staff helped us figure out how to get to the bus depot. The seating waiting for the bus was nice and clean. When we returned to our cars late at night, the place was well patrolled. read more

I have a huge complaint about the MTA bus drivers in EL MONTE especially at night! They are OFTEN driving way too fast. But this conplaint is for the idiot driver of a MTA bus with turning into the el monte station that went around me on Santa Anita then merging directly INTO my car at least 40MPH!!!! This is a 35mph zone and this driver assumed i had enough space to avoid him/her completely side railing my car!!!! Not to mention he was less than half a mile before he had to make a right turn!!!! I merged in at Valley headed south on santa anita and this driver went around me from the fire station to the first light (Ramona). That is not enought distance to SAFELY pass a vehicle in city streets!!! Nothing works and the it has useless overpaid metro people and sheriffs deputies that must have gotten this job because they suck at being real cops. The handicap spots are filled with fakers (seriously would a 20 -something "handicapped" be able to sprint from the car? I've complained constantly to verify these people with placards but the lazy-ass metro and sheriffs wont do their jobs. Not only that the escalators break once a week. The machines to add money to your tap card breaks...then they're always fixing something because it wasn't done right the first time (lowest bidder?). Now metro has to waterproof the top level.
