We were there the other night and the owner closed early. Just started to shut the place down when we were still at our table and called last call 45 minutes before the time to close on the door. Poor waitress seemed embarrassed that they were closing early. This isn't the first time this has happened to us while we have been there. They are lazy and decide to close while paying customers are in the building actively eating and drinking. The girls that work there are friendly and do their best. The owners should find a new line of work. I have heard them be extremely condescending to the girls that work there as well as customers. Horrible business practice. read more

After being refused seating at another local establishment for having a group of 10, we arrived at 51st State Brewing and were immediately seated and had our orders taken. The service was fast and efficient, the weight staff was very pleasant and extremely happy to have our business. I had the 3 Vagabond's lager and it was outstanding. The pizzas are incredibly generous sized and woodfired, and the crust is absolutely one of the best. I highly recommend the Roasted Vegetable with Balsamic. They certainly know their dough. Ok 1st visit here food/pizza the buffalo planks are pizza slices so don't order pizza with it lol the veggie had good flavor the veggies a little soggy, the margarita pizza was soggy and less flavor but good pizza for the area. Salad was brown looked like it was scraped bottom of the barrel. Service was slow other tables that came in after us received their pizza prior to ours. It's a brewery and we're out of many of their beers. Would never return!! Would not recommend it either. Manager did not have a clue to run a business. read more

Decent place. I love how there are many options for pizzas with fresh and unique ingredients. Definitely try the Batty Millie Blueberry Beer. AVOID THE MEATBALL APPETIZER AND MEATBALLS ON PIZZA!!! Frozen Meatballs covered in sauce. They should be ashamed to serve them. If you skip that, your meal will be good. subpar beer descriptions! Ordered the CG 4A glider which is simply labeled as an American porter On the board. Expected a dark malty beer with chocolate/coffee tones. Instead got a medium hoppy reddish beer with pretty strong alcohol note. I'm no beer expert but it should be labeled as American IMPERIAL porter! Which I would not have ordered as I avoid Imperial style beer. read more

While the bagels are fantastic, the hot drinks are less the desirable. If you're looking for a sweet drink, this is not the place to get one. The sausage egg and cheese bagel is pretty tasteless. no salt or pepper is used to season the egg and the sausage is just bland. The egg white wasn't fully cooked through, so i was biting into slimy egg throughout the sandwich. The bagel was amazing though. Great chew and flavor. read more

Wonderful new brewery with tasty beer and delicious thin crust pizza. The wheat beer aka "Batty Millie" was so delicious with hints of blueberry and vanilla flavor. They add blueberries to the beer for added flavor and appeal! Pizza: Chicken Cesear was so flavorful. Garlic, parmesan, chicken and artichoke. The crust was thin and tasty. Thankfully, NO burnt taste like I've experienced at other establishments that bake the pizza in a wood fire oven. This place is excellent for both food, drinks and the atmosphere. This is exactly the sort of business the Iron Mountain area needed, and 51st State delivered in a big way. It's a neighborhood brewery/pizza place with solid beer and real wood fired pizza that makes me wish I lived within walking distance! They just opened to the public today but will likely be known as one of the best pizza places in the U.P. I only tried a couple of the beers but really liked what I had. And they knocked it out of the park with the renovation! I'd been in this space years back when it was "The Junction" bar and and I can't imagine how they could have done a better job. As I write this it's January and the outdoor patio is snow covered, but come summer wood fired pizza and beer on the patio will be hard to pass up. Get here. read more

Located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan (Wisconsin's brother from another mother), 51st State is an exciting addition the little town of Kingsford. I don't remember what part of Kingsford it's in...seemed like in the middle of nowhere. It's this small, modern, and trendy little building with a small outdoor patio. They have two or three small beer tanks, so their production level is small at this point. Apparently, I couldn't even get a flight because they didn't have enough beers to serve for a flight. When you look at their menu you will see a list of about 10 beers. They have different kinds, they just can't make all of them at the same time. On the menu it would even say what day they will have more coming. I had an IPA and a Porter that were both decent. The beer to try is the Batty Millie, a blueberry wheat ale that is not too sweet and not an overbearing flavor of blueberries. It's so refreshing...a perfect summer beer! Oh and they will put a few blueberries in the beer. Yum! I must mention the pizza! It is AMAZING! They have a wood fire oven and they make 12-inch pizzas which is perfect to share with a friend or eat for yourself (if you're determined enough). My friend and I got the Sweety Drop. Four different cheeses with bacon and these small sweet chili peppers. It was full of cheesy goodness and the peppers gave it some HUGE flavor! Besides pizzas they have a few salads and appetizers. Got a chance to talk to the owners who are both very nice and down to earth. They live in Marquette, and I asked why open a brewery in Kingsford? There's already a brewery in Marquette already (Black Rocks), so they wanted to find a different city that's active and would support a brewery. I think they have found a neat little home in Kingsford and is a great destination spot when traveling from Wisconsin to the UP. Can't wait to go again and bring my growler bottles. read more

We came opening day! Ordered the Meatballs...they were served in a cute little cast iron pan with homemade sauce. Very good. Then we had the Antipasto Salad. That was also good, although next time I'll ask for dressing on the side. It was too much dressing for me. They have a fired pizza oven so we ordered the Chicken Caesar Pizza. Their pizza is a hand-tossed, thinner crust with a full edge. Our pizza came with a white garlic sauce, artichoke hearts and chunks of chicken. Yummm! The atmosphere is great....not a usual bar scene. Patrons are craft beer drinkers----they appreciate great beer. (No Bud Light here, folks). Owner Jeff made the rounds and greeted us. We went to 51st on Friday night to try their beer and sample the pizza. While they have outdoor seating the weather was bad so everyone was inside.....place was packed, which was great to see. We had a group of 5 and we were able to get a couple of seats at the bar as we waited for our table. The service was great, plenty of help and the beer was tasty. Our table was ready sooner than planned and we ordered two pizzas and cheesy bread with beer cheese dip. ALL were delicious!!!
