Order a bloody Mary and you get a limp olive with no pimento. Don't get me wrong I've been here before and everything's been fine but today it just got on my nerves. I went midday. The bartender catered to the locals and had her little chitchat going. Do you restaurant owners not realize that there are people coming in and out of town at all times and on various days and we may work in service industries and maybe even the restaurants/hospitality industry I ordered whatever the burger is with the Gorgonzola cheese and it wasn't bad but it wasn't great. Between the burger the bun the tomato and the onion was hard to get your mouth around but it wasn't really worth it to stretch your mouth that far. You had a choice of fries or salad and I chose the fries. In all honesty I've been in Cape May for a week now and have eaten out nearly every day and had some outstanding fries and I would swear these were yesterday's fries if not yesterday's fries from somebody else's plate. I asked the bartender if these were the normal presentation of the fries she said "oh yes they're hand cut fries" my question would be hand cut when and fried when? They were overdone and mushy. . And after exchange the bartender adopted a pissy attitude. Here's my thing to the managers/owners of this establishment: I have worked in various forms in hospitality and customer service. I'm also an older person, consumer, frequent visitor of restaurants and bars. Take this however you will. It's a Tuesday afternoon... The servers and the service and the food should be exactly the fucking same as it is on Friday and Saturday night. Feel free to contact me if I said anything out of line. PS I'm an interim innkeeper in Cape May and I will definitely be steering people away from your restaurant even though I've had decent experiences in the past. We stopped here for lunch. Great place to hang out. They have sitting outside, comfy couch is available when you wait if it gets busy. Excellent service and delicious food!! Try the Mac and cheese, by far, best I've ever had!! I got the salmon with the ginger honey sauce, it was a bit bitter for me but still tasty. I liked the atmosphere and the music was pleasant and not too loud. Highly recommended. read more

This is a fantastic hidden gem! The ambience is amazing, the service is fantastic and everything we've tried was yummy! I highly recommend the crab bisque with lump crab, shrimp lettuce wraps as well as the crab cake tacos (messy but generous and flavorful) but oddly enough the green beans take the tasty-cake! Great local place. Very lively and clean.Host at entry very personable. We went early so we were sat right away while there the place got quite busy around us. Our sever Alison was so helpful and pleasant. Specials drink orders gave my wife a couple mins to figure out her drink order. Ordered the buf shrimp app which we love I always want her to get her own because I want it all what can I say got a big appetite. Plus so yummy sauce isn't too hot but spicy. Great presentation comes w blue cheese and celery. Onto dinner I got the steak frites which is a favorite of mine I've also loved the hot pork sand they have some great pizza too. I loved mine fries are home cut and delish comes with green beans. Wife got crab cake sandwich said she liked it very much mentioned how meaty I'm not a crab cake person but I think she meant not a lot of filler. She had the fries too. Desert we split the key lime pie my wife used to own a cafe and was the baker. Both of us thoroughly enjoyed the key lime tart but not crazy the whip cream home made not from a can my wife said I wouldn't have noticed I love em both. Nice crust on bottom. I've been here several times and I loved it each time. We've ordered some soups, appetizers, pizzas, burgers, and sandwiches. Each time we have walked away completely satisfied. Their pizzas in particular are my favorite. I love whatever cheese they use because it has the perfect amount of saltiness that brings the flavor over the top. My favorite pizzas are the buffalo shrimp and the clams and macaroni pies, so good. There is one minor kink they need to work out with the pizza pies though: they can be a tad too soggy at times. If they can work that out, it would be perfection, because the flavor is already there. The rest of the menu is pretty good too I'll add. The menu is priced very fairly and service is always good. They are also open later than quite a few other establishments in the area which is a godsend in Cape May County. I would highly recommend checking this place out. read more

We ended up here as part of a wine tour package. Salads and waters were already on the table waiting for us when we walked in. We were offered 5 different entrees and it was a pretty well rounded offering, it seemed like there could be something for everyone even though the chicken tenders and cheeseburgers ended up to be most popular with our group. The staff was wonderful and very kind and patient with us since we were kind of indecisive and possibly a little loud post wine tour. Thankfully there were only a few locals hanging at the bar on this Saturday afternoon so there weren't too many people to disturb. read more

We stopped here for dinner after seeing the good reviews. We were surprised that there wasn't any parking in the parking lot and followed others that were parked in the grass. We thought it must be really good with how busy it was. We put our name in with the hostess and she told us that it would be a 40 minute wait. The restaurant itself was nice and had a pretty big bar area. We were surprised to see that the roof was leaking in several areas. The people who were sitting at the bar kept getting water drips on their heads while trying to enjoy their drinks. There were a few other areas that had yellow caution cones in the walkway from the leaky roof. Once seated our waiter came to take our order. He offered us water and we took him up on it. We noticed that there was something floating in our bottle of water which seamed to be a straw wrapper, but we weren't given any straws so it definitely wasn't from us. We alerted our waiter and he gave us new water and glasses to use. I ordered the meatballs for my entree and was not disappointed. They were delicious and cooked to perfection. I must say I have never had an issue at 5 West except for service at times. Tonight I placed a to go order for a bowl of soup for $14. Ok, but the size of the container was at the most a cup size. Strike number 1. Also ordered the cheese steak egg roles for $14, which was 2 burnt roles cut in half. Are you kidding me. To also add the size of the egg rolls was not very big. did Not start off good. No pizza ??? No explanation just not serving. Kendra was our waitress. She was horrible. No sense of urgency at all. Did not check on us at all. Lunch yesterday with my friend. I had the Thai Beef Salad . Beautifully presented with the flank steak medium rare on top and sliced just right for me to see that it was indeed med rare. So sorry I didn't take a photo. Greens were dark cold and carrots julienne were crunchy. The dressing was perfect not too spicy but tangy. Your back room do over is very nice. Lots of crab chunks with a thick creamy broth. It was seasoned nicely. The French fries were served hot and crispy. The salad was a nice size for a side salad. The greens were fresh. My husband wasn't happy with the cheeseburger. It tasted like a frozen patty and was a little over cooked. There's a good variety of food along with beer, wine and a cocktail menu. Inconsistency of quality of some menu items. Took family that was visiting to 5 West this past weekend. Two people ordered cheeseburgers. Both said the meat did not have a good flavor and not ate a very small portion before calling it quits. Mac and cheese is so so, nothing to write home about. Terrible acoustics, very loud. One person commented it sounded like the staff were throwing the plates! Difficult to have a conversation given the noise level. If you go while the sun is still up, do not allow them to seat you across from the doors, you will need sunglasses. They CHARGE A SURCHARGE when using a credit card, but they don't let you know this until after they run your card through. Salmon was great and crab cake tacos good. Will go elsewhere in the future read more

When you are in Cape May, every place is touristy & we wanted something more low key & local & found this place. GREAT menu with lots of good things on there. We enjoyed some drinks & pizza. Great atmosphere, great food and perfect dinner music! This is the perfect place to go when the Wildwoods and Cape May get crowded on the weekends. We waited about 5-10 minutes and enjoyed a drink at the bar. When seated at our table, both my husband and I ordered burgers which were very reasonably priced and even included fries! The food was done to order, hot and delicious. They had an acoustic guitar player who sang and was later accompanied by a fiddle player. The song choices and volume were perfect for this small restaurant bar as we could enjoy our meal and conversation. Will definitely be back!! read more

Great burger. Recommended. I was craving a pub style burger and had had the Exit Zero one a couple days before. I was unimpressed with Exit Zero's bland burger. It did nothing to satisfy my craving. Because of my bad experience, I was wary of 5 West despite recommendations from locals and my friends wanting to try it. But I'm so glad we went because this totally hit the spot. The worst dining experience in years. Is this place really owned by the same people as Tishas? First the server Rebecca couldn't have been any ruder. Zero conversation, no manners, no follow up. Six meals and not one was executed well. The pizza was undercooked. In the words of Portnoy "tons of flop" "horrible undercarriage". One bite everybody knows the rules 4.2. The hamburger was a frozen patty. With a stale tomato sliced 3/8 of an inch thick. Another table near us must have agreed as they left about a 1/3 of their burgers as well. Chicken fingers made with "fake" chicken. You know the tough, flavorless, and off textured. They served with "Ken's Steakhouse Honey Mustard. Fries were soggy because the fryer wasn't up to temperature. Kids didn't want to eat them. Meatballs tasted like little balled meatloafs compacted into a hard dry asteroid. Kids spaghetti was the best time but needed more sauce especially for little ones. Speaking honestly if the two options were 5 West or McDonald's we would probably go to McDonald's.
