I've used Brothers Plumbing before and had a generally positive impression, but I was very…read moredisappointed with the quote I received for a straightforward faucet replacement. I had already purchased the two replacement faucets, the existing shutoff valves were accessible and working, and the job was simply to remove the old faucets and install the new ones. I was quoted roughly $1,100 for the installation labor alone. I questioned the price because it seemed extremely high for the scope of work, but Brothers reviewed it and affirmed that the quote was correct. I understand that professional plumbing companies have overhead and that you're paying for experience, insurance, and warranty coverage--not just the technician's time. Still, nearly $1,100 to install two customer-supplied bathroom faucets felt very difficult to justify. I ultimately decided not to move forward with the work. Two stars because the communication was professional, but the pricing on this particular job was far outside what I consider reasonable.

Extremely Disappointing Experience - Questionable Pricing and Warranty Claims…read more As the owner of a remodeling company, I believe in honesty, integrity, fair pricing, and taking responsibility when something goes wrong. Unfortunately, my recent experience involving Brothers Plumbing, Heating & Electric has left me questioning their business practices. While completing a basement remodel for a customer, we accidentally damaged an air conditioning refrigerant line. We immediately took responsibility and contacted HVAC companies to arrange the repair. We received a quote of approximately $1,000. The homeowner had recently purchased a new furnace and air conditioning system from Brothers, so they contacted them for a quote as well. Brothers quoted approximately $3,400 for the repair--$2,400 MORE than the quote we received! But here's what I find even more disturbing. According to the homeowner, Brothers told them that if anyone other than Brothers performed the repair, the warranty on their new furnace and air conditioning system would be voided. Think about that. A homeowner who just spent thousands of dollars on a new HVAC system is told they could lose their warranty unless they agree to pay Brothers more than three times what another HVAC company quoted. Naturally, the homeowner didn't want to risk losing their warranty and felt pressured to use Brothers. A manufacturer's warranty generally cannot be automatically voided simply because another qualified HVAC contractor performs a repair. There may be specific warranty requirements, and workmanship warranties can differ, but a blanket statement that no other company can perform the work is extremely concerning. We weren't trying to avoid responsibility or cut corners. We acknowledged the damage and were fully prepared to pay a qualified professional to repair it correctly. What I take issue with is a company potentially using the fear of losing a warranty to steer a homeowner into accepting a dramatically higher-priced repair. As a contractor and business owner, I would never want my customers to feel manipulated, misled, or pressured into paying more than necessary. If Brothers believes their warranty truly requires them to be the only company allowed to perform this repair, I challenge them to publicly identify the exact warranty provision that supports that claim. Otherwise, I believe their management owes this homeowner an explanation. Charging $3,400 for a repair another contractor quoted at approximately $1,000 is concerning enough. Telling a customer they could lose their warranty if they choose someone else makes this situation far worse. Consumers deserve transparency, truthful warranty information, competitive choices, and the ability to make informed decisions without fear. Based on this experience, I would strongly encourage anyone considering Brothers to get independent estimates and verify any warranty claims directly with the equipment manufacturer before agreeing to expensive repairs. Trust is earned through honesty and integrity--not through fear and pressure.

Headline: You can get AC repair and replacement done for A LOT less with other companies. Shop…read morearound! I had tech come out last week to look at my AC, which wasn't working. Cost me $130 for the inspection. The guy didn't really know what he was doing. I had to tell him to check the compressor. He'd only checked the capacitor and couldn't figure out why the condenser kept tripping the circuit breaker. It was the bad compressor that was drawing too much power. If I hadn't told him to check the compressor, I would have been out $130 and no closer to knowing what was wrong with my AC. Once WE had figured out what was wrong, he told me it would be $4900 to replace the compressor and immediately tried to steer me toward replacing the entire condenser. I got two quotes from them this week for condenser replacement. One was $8900 with a Trane unit and the other was $9050 with a Lenox unit. I ended up going with another company, which is charging me $2900 to just replace the compressor. That's $2000 less than the Lakeside H & AC quoted me for the same work. I did have to pay $120 for a second inspection but it was worth it. I might have been able to get my AC working again for even less money with another company but after being without AC for 10 days during a heat wave, I was ready to just get the work done. Here's some VERY important information about HVAC: Private equity firms are moving into this sector and driving prices through the roof. The bigger the company, the flashier their vans, the more likely they're owned by one of these firms and if you go with them you'll be paying WAY more than you have to. Again, shop around! Go with small companies or even a single guy with a beat-up, old van. You might even be able to find one that won't charge you for the inspection or at least charge you less. Chances are they'll do just as good a job if not better and they'll do it for A WHOLE LOT less.

Ultimate Heating and Cooling was the most professional, took extra time to discuss changing some venting to improve airflow, and thoroughly looked over my existing furnace as well. If…read moreyou want to be completely disrespected as a woman, spoken to in a deeply condescending manner, and treated as if you couldn't possibly understand basic technical issues, then this is the company for you. They charged us for an inspection that was clearly not done properly, pushed us to replace perfectly functional parts at nearly 10 times the market price, and literally laughed in my face while telling me my HVAC system was "shitty" and needed to be replaced. Three days later, the system had another issue because they completely failed to identify the actual problem. We were then pushed yet again toward more interventions and more part replacements by a manager who had never even seen the HVAC system himself and could only give vague explanations about what the issue "could" be. When I later requested my file, pictures, and full documentation from the visit, nothing was ever sent. No transparency whatsoever. We finally contacted another amazing company ALTITUD BRO HVAC-- which I strongly recommend -- and unlike UHCPC, they actually inspected everything properly. They identified the issue immediately and charged us only $400 for something that probably would have cost us over $2,000 with UHCPC. What a joke. And the funniest part? They're apparently just as bad with plumbing. We worked with them in the past on another property and, after charging us over $20,000, not only were they unable to properly fix the issues, but they also damaged one of our showers. Matt Robledo, the owner, even told us he had to fire his plumber Dave because "he was not good" and promised us compensation or future repair credits. Of course, none of that ever happened. Once they take your money, they seem to forget your name very quickly.

My air conditioner was freezing up, so I called Golden West, and they sent a technician out to…read morediagnose the problem. Like ALL scam HVAC companies, they told me that: 1) The previous job done was shoddy 2) They could help me with tons of problems that were unrelated to my issue. They said that the prior person had done a bad job and thus my refrigerant was dirty and needed to be drained, the system cleaned, and the refrigerant replaced. I was quoted $4100 for this service, which was $800 off as I am a VIP member. I told them that there was no way I was paying that, and I got 2 more quotes. One for $2300, and one for $1500, for this SAME service. But wait, here comes the fraud. The $1500 guy came out and tested the coolant prior to replacing it and said it was in perfect condition, it did not need to be replaced, and in fact the issue was that I had too many return ducts in my basement open, which was causing the freezing up. He shut one return, sealed off the other, and for $99 my problem was solved. Thank God I called an ethical company and not scammers. I e-mailed their GM after the scam artist sent me the $4100 quote (Which would have not solved my problem, at all, even .000001%) and they never even responded. I'm sure if they are stealing this much from other customers and committing fraud, they don't need to respond to prior customers.
