Scorched Earth is one of the main hangouts on weekends. A good amount of beers to choose from. There's a pretty big variety on tap. Coming here early in the afternoon, and it was already busy. It's a brewery that's also family friendly. That means it's okay to bring kids, which is getting increasingly common for breweries it seems. A lot of interesting sounding ones on the list. It's about $7 a pint. Pretty okay for locally owned and produced. Best of the ones we had was the Wunderpilz, a German style pilsner that was light. It's got no food in here except $5 tubs of Von Hanson's Pretzels. Has more when food trucks are here. There's usually one on site. Has a pretty hidden location off Algonquin Road on Berg. It's closed Mondays and Tuesdays. There's food trucks on weekends.

The Food They have a very diverse and inclusive menu. We are able to go with adult friends and/or our children and everyone is able to find something that suits them and they always seem to speak very highly of what they ordered. Their Pretzel is amazing, they have some of the best Cheese curds I have ever had, decent pizzas, Huge salads, and plenty of vegetarian options. I would be more than happy with their food even if they didn't have amazing beer. The Beer I have yet to try a beer from More Brewing that I didn't enjoy. Even the styles i typically do not enjoy. I think this speaks volumes to their brewers and the amazing work they are doing. I am an IPA fan and theirs are just better than most I have had. They even released a Malort Collab and it was unbelievable. If you're simply in the market for delicious cold refreshments, they have you covered. Staff I personally have never interacted with anyone that worked here that wasn't very pleasant to interact with. Everyone has a very chill, happy energy. The vibes here are always great and that goes a long way for someone like me. Merch If you're into Brewery swag, they have a cool storefront with excellent quality shirts and glasses. I will say, their glasses do not hold up well to traditional dishwashers so expect to handwash if you don't want lose the decals they apply to their glasses. I suppose these could be listed as positive qualities. In general, there's nothing that makes this bar unique and there's a definite generic feel to the beer signs and brewery schwag used to decorate the place. The lighting is too bright for a bar. You want your bar to be a little dark when you're drinking with friends and listening to a band on a Saturday night. Mulligan's lighting was slightly brighter than the dining room of your average Applebee's. All of that could be forgiven if you're able to enjoy doing what you come to a bar to do... drink. I was there Saturday with a group of friends... a group of friends who like to drink. We got there just as the band was about to start playing, went up to the bar to get our first round, and waited... and waited... The band finished their first 3 songs before the bartender finally took our order. The drinks came to about $14. We gave her a $20... she never came back with the change. Assuming that we wanted to give her a 40% tip after having to wait so long was a bit presumptuous. But whatever... we didn't make a big deal about it. Just to clarify - the bar was not that busy and there were 2 bartenders ignoring us. (When another friend paid for a few drinks with a $100 bill, she said, "Do you need change back?" Really?) We went back up for the next round, and again... we waited... and waited... Finally, my friend walked up to a waitress at the wait stand and asked her if she could get us 3 beers. She was super sweet - got our beers - and she got a nice tip. Back a the bar again later, we waited and waited again... finally, when my friend actually waved his arms to get the bartender's attention... she acted startled to see us there. It was as if we had materialized out of thin air and she couldn't believe her eyes! Seriously? As I said before, the overall mediocrity of the bar could totally be overlooked if they compensated with a great staff. The single cocktail waitress and the bar-back were the most attentive members of the staff - they were actually pretty great. But I was there with a group of people who LIKE TO DRINK... yet we all walked out at the end of the night completely sober simply because it took so frustratingly long to order each round. On the plus side, we walked out with a lot more cash in our pockets since we weren't able to spend it at the bar.

In an old storefront building but they have also added a charming courtyard on the back. They make a LOT of wines! And the food menu is quite robust as well, not just snacks or a cheese plate, as at some places. We split the ham sliders and the chicken raspberry flatbread sandwich, both of which were very tasty and came with crisp kettle chips. To drink, my mom and I had the wine swirl slushy, and my brother had a bourbon old fashioned, all of which we enjoyed. As a lightweight, I liked that the slushy was tasty without being too boozy for me. Our server, Charlie, was very friendly. Staff may want to remember that they can be heard in the dining room from behind the wall that I suppose is blocking off the kitchen; we heard a lot of hollering and swearing at one point. Regarding accessibility, this is an old building and is rather precarious. I use a cane and noted that there is no railing for the steps outside, or the ones inside to get out to the courtyard (my mom mentioned that my dad, who loses his balance due to a medical condition, had also mentioned this on a previous visit). The bathroom I visited was also tiny, literally a water closet. There is also a rather steep slope in the floor from the lobby room to the dining room. If you use a wheelchair, I don't know that this building would be accessible at all from the exterior. Overall, it's worth the drive out to Genoa if you already aren't in this area to check out Prairie State Winery. Cheers!
