I usually go inside because I enjoy looking at all their goodies and daydreaming about outdoor trips. In the past, I've gotten climbing gear, camping gear, and apparel here. While things are pricey, I appreciate what great quality their stuff is. And I while I have never used this before, it sounds like they repair the stuff you get from here for you. I just learned on a recent trip that you can use your receipt to get free access to state parks if you're a member which is so awesome. I drive down there and she Mike at the gun counter if they had any, because I didn't see any where the 9mm ammo is. He said "We don't have any". I told him that was odd because it was clearly on the website. He looked bothered about my question and he responded " They might come in tonight" and that the website doesn't update. I said ok and continued shopping. As I was walking I saw a display full of the Blazer 9mm ammo as advertised. I thought WTH! Mike just told me Academy never received a shipment. I bought some. I then picked up a soft rifle case for my new .22. I asked Mike if he had a Winchester Wildcat I can see to measure my new case, he immediately said "NO". I walked over to the .22's and the first thing I saw was a Wildcat. He has no clue and didn't bother to check. He got the rifle and attempted to disengage the bolt which he was unsuccessful. He didn't see the bolt release. Lol! You can't make this up!! He helped me measure but in our conversation he said "I don't own any firearms" but you're working in the firearm section right? Mike has no clue about anything in the firearm section and should be transferred to another section of the store. Anything but firearms and knives.

The front supervisor got rude when my wife were the only customers in the store and when we went around the maze to get to the register we stood there for nearly 4minutes while the front supervisor and four other employees just stood there gabbing and occasionally looked our way. When were asked for assistance the supervisor directed one of the employees to help us. The employee stated "She was going to lunch" WTH!!?? The supervisor immediately broke up the gabbers and left the area. We placed the $350 worth of products on the counter and left. When I called back to the store to speak with the front supervisor . She immediately got defensive. I then called the National Customer Service and was promised a call back from the Store Manager . When the SM finally called me I commented on how the store staff especially the management team had hit rock bottom. All I received were excuse after excuse and we want you back. I will never step into another ASO again! I have started shopping at CABELA'S, BASS PRO , and GREEN TOP for my sports and shooting needs.

But my wife has recently become a "backpacker" and I wanted to get her fitted for a legitimate backpack so we made an exception to our black friday rule and went to the only place I would go to locally backpacking and other outdoor gear, River Rock Outfitter Even though the shop was filled with customers, Keith and April, the owners, immediately greeted us. When April finished with her customer she began the process for fitting my with a backpack. This process which included measuring her torso, what type of backpacking it was for day hikes or multiple day/night trips, types of weather, trying on multiple packs (with weigjts in the pack) took approximately 40 minutes, maybe more, but it was such a pleasant experience, it only seemed like minutes. My wife and April found the perfect pack but since it was not in the color my wife wanted, April placed in on order. We'll return in a day or two, try it on again and walk out with an early Christmas present for my wife we will now be able to share and enjoy many more years of backpacking together with a comfortable backpack. I stopped into Dick's the other day for a can of Mace. I walk downtown daily and have had a few…read morealmost-altercations with drivers who don't understand they need to stop for pedestrians who are halfway across cross walks with the walk signal, so I wanted to arm myself in case I ever encounter an extra aggressive motorist. I used to have a can on hand when I worked in a fairly dangerous part of North Philly (that I never used), but that stuff expires after a few years, so it was time to refresh! When I walked in with my mom, we were immediately greeted and assisted with finding the Mace. They actually had a large selection of cans, which I thought was pretty random but nice. I chose the pink one without tear gas for $15 and was quickly on my way. The rest of the store seemed clean and well-designed, but I didn't stick around to browse. This location is in the Willow Lawn shopping center surrounded by a bunch of other chains, but parking was easy on Sunday. I'd return for sporting goods or some more Mace if needed in the future. Let's hope I never have to use it!
