First of all, it's family run for 70 years. I like that. Situated right near the Uncompahgre River, and a short walk to downtown Ouray, or in the other direction, the hot springs. A gorgeous place to park the RV, with all the amenities. Spotlessly clean bath/shower area. Laundry and TV room facilities. Reasonably priced too. Except for spotty internet (we were the farthest from the office) this was a great experience. We will return! read more

This is right outside town where you can walk just a few blocks to the heart of town, the rates are reasonable for the area, and we were in a spot with full hookups right by the river! It was gorgeous! This was our honeymoon trip, and it was amazing! The RV Park is popular, so you are packed in there, spaces are close together, but even with the park completely full it was quiet, and people were respectful. The laundry room and bathroom with showers were both really clean! Police patrol the area regularly, so it is safe. read more

Tight spaces, noisy from the busy dirt street that runs right through the campground. No really good place to walk the dog. Made a reservation two days before arriving and said I may only stay one night. By the time I arrived I had decided to stay only one night. They charged me for two nights because they reserved two nights and according to their cancellation policy a reservation needed to be cancelled 7 days in advance. No reasoning with the desk clerk. I won't recommend this place to anyone. read more

This is our 2nd trip here. Ouray is a beautiful town and this RV park is the icing on the cake. It's nestled in the mountains with a stream running through it the staff is very helpful and friendly not to mention it's within walking distance to town. We had to change our plans and friends were already staying here so we joined them. The prime spots are along the creek but if course they were full up. However the camp host made an effort to park us near our friends. And we had a wonderful view of the canyon wall just a few hundred feet away from us. The location is fantastic. You can walk into town and to the park that had a free live concert one night. And you can walk to the hot springs too. One strange thing is that while they allow dogs (there were a lot of them)), you can't walk your dogs on the grass and there is no place set aside for them. There are bathrooms and laundry attached to the office. The bathrooms were clean, I didn't do any laundry there. read more

Our family, friends and us have been coming to 4J for over four years. Not sure what has happened with them, but the customer service from the owner Jill is horrendous, rude and demeaning. They don't make confirmation calls. They don't send email confirmations. The lose reservations and then abruptly cancel them without notice...even after we made several confirmation calls. Jill accused us of not knowing what we are doing when making reservations, even though we've been full time RVers for 6 years and are on our second tour of the US. They manage everything on a ratty old book and pencil. Jill likes to "selectively" remember things and even when proven wrong, repeatedly, her answer was (literally) "You can leave then". We made reservations a year in advance as Ouray is extremely busy during the summer. We turned up and Jill told us that we could stay, but only for two weeks as she'd given our spot away. She contradicts herself endlessly but her default approach is to blame the customer. In one breadth she stated "they don't do monthly rentals" yet no less than five minutes later she said she'd give us the monthly rate but could only stay for two week. The monthly rate was $1,350 but after her shenanigans, we were forced to pay $1,265 for two weeks until we could find other accommodations. We had to scramble for a reservation and ended up with a much better campground just down the road, Ouray Riverside Resort (ORR). 4J is small, outdated and littered with full time mobile homes. To be fair, they are the closest to Ouray with within walking distance of the pools and downtown. That's it. Center area is so small that larger coaches with slides will have only 12" between the slides of other RVs. They are incredibly cheap but you get what you pay for clearly. Stayed for almost a week in June. Our spot was along the cliff for the small RVs and campers. Relatively quiet, level and wonderful location. Facilities are great for a campsite: clean bathrooms and laundry rooms, and never had to wait for a shower stall. Showers are free and laundry costs a couple dollars. They also sell reasonably-priced ice and propane (not refill: exchange or buy new only), which was handy. Always friendly staff who went the extra mile to help, even loaning a tool when needed. Only real issue I have was enforcement of quiet time (starts at 10pm). Two neighboring spots had late night outdoor movies the first two nights we were there. I told management after the first night that the movie kept us up until 10:30. They misunderstood my complaint and did not talk to our neighbors. The second night management happened to be walking by while the movie was playing after-hours and did talk to the campers, but only requested they turn down the sound. They stayed up until 11:20pm, and we could still hear the sound. Luckily they left the next morning. Our campsite had enough room to stretch out a bit, but not as spacious as most campsites. The big RVs did have tighter spots, but seemed to make it work. Much appreciation for the military discount and friendly service. Perfect location to walk or bike everywhere in town. read more

Arrived at a very clean campground with a beautiful shady spot! We stayed in spot #9 and it was really peaceful! In walking distance to local restaurants and the local Ouray hot springs. The bathrooms in the women's shower area are filled with clumps of hair. So just an FYI there. We did have a ground of people come in at about 2am shining their super bright head lamps into our camper as well as pounding in stakes right next to us. They decided to make a full meal too, so that was a little noisy but that wasn't the fault of 4J. Overall it was a great and peaceful stay. Would return for sure! read more

Honestly, a great little place for your Rv if you're wanting to bump around Ouray on foot. Only 5-10 min walk into town and the hot springs park. Yeah so a dirt road runs right through the campground but it's not nearly as bad as most make it out to be in their reviews. It's a slow zone and it wasn't dusty at all while we stayed for 3 nights. Noise isn't an issue either as there is almost no traffic at night. Pricing is very reasonable here so that's a plus. Most of the pull through sites are very narrow especially if you have full 4ft deep slides on both sides. Opt for a back in site if you can as most of those seem wider and just nicer in general. If have a standard sewer outlet near the middle of your rig and you do get a pull through site with intentions of hooking up to sewer make sure you have 15-20ft dare I say 30 foot of sewer hoses and proper hose supports for that length. The sewer connections at many of the pull through sites are all the way at the back of the site and such that it's a long ways from where many RV outlet pipes are situated. Might be fine for motor coaches but most 5th wheels dump near middle of the camper. Another option is use a garden hose adaptor on your outlet and run a standard non collapsing garden hose to the sewer and just drain gray only since black tank will usually last you a week or more. Then dump black at the convenient dump station on your way out. Friendly staff and easy to work with. Ice on site for $3 a bag Very clean laundry room. $2/load. Bathrooms were exceptionally clean. Overall very pleased. We will be back. read more

This was a wonderful campground for us. We had 2 class As traveling with 8 kids and 4 adults. The bathrooms were very clean and big and roomy. That made all the difference! We all showered every night in warm showers. The campground was beautiful and right on the river. Being here in fall the changing colors made it amazing. There was a clean laundry room and staff was nice and accommodated us for washing times. Didn't give all 5 stars because there's not much playground for kids - just swings and not much grass area for them to play in. But we found a big park close and they walked to it when needed. read more

Beautiful park, great hosts, close to the beautiful and scenic main part of Ouray (walking distance), and to the hot springs near by. We stayed during a tourist lull so we were fortunate to back right up to the river. May I say, there is another park in town who boasts "water front"--but this park is much better. The mature trees, open space and wonderful, friendly hosts make it a 5-star in our book. I don't think you'll be disappointed. Me and my family have stayed at 4j's for years. We loved it the location is prime, the camp grounds are clean, and the bathrooms are clean. This past year we took the option to rebook for the same dates. We were told to call in the fall to confirm. We called last October and we're told that we were good to go. Fast forward to last week (two weeks before our trip). We called were told that our spot had been given away because we did not call in march. We were never told to call in march and never have had to in the past. We received no courtesy call or email. It's a great campground but just keep in mind your spot might be given away with no warning. read more

This was exactly what we needed. Drove our pickup through Ouray and slept in the back. Can't speak for how comfy the tent spots were- as we were not on the ground- but everyone seemed happy. Bathrooms were spotless. Quiet. Beautiful view when we woke up. Easy walk into town. Easy walk to the Hot Springs Pool (which I highly recommend). This place is precisely what we were looking for; hot springs pool (walkable), walking distance to Ouray, conveniently located, creek through the camp, satellite signal (in most sites), WIFI (heavy traffic at times), very clean RR, friendly staff, willing to accommodate, good price point ($30 for elec, $37 full service), pet friendly. We were able to obtain 5 nights in same site without reservations. This park has a lot of returning campers for extended stays that reserve spots. Reservations would be wise at peak season if looking for multiple night stay. Would have give the park a 5 if the grounds had more room with grass and less congested. The trade off was the proximity to town/hot springs. We camp in a class A and will definitely put this park on our potential return list. We loved the town for shopping (for the ladies), 4X4ing (for the men), saloons and eateries for pleasure. read more

I will not camp here again. The employees were extremely rude about quite a few things. I completely understand if someone can not help me when I ask a question. But there is a nice way to respond to questions. The bathrooms were not clean and needed toilet paper. The location is nice. You can walk or ride a bike to town and if you can get a spot on the river it is nice to sleep. But I have two young children and I thought the water was dangerous for them. We recently stayed here for 2 nights. The owners/managers were as nice as could be!!! They let us know the spot next to us would be open and to feel free to spread out if we wanted to. The location was within walking distance to town, hot springs and very close to hiking trails. My only dislike was being on a heavily traveled road. If you have a smaller RV, try getting a spot on the creek. read more

Very small campground but you can't beat the location/proximity to Main Street. You don't choose this campground for the "camping" because most sites are close together, and not particularly quiet. You choose this campground for the walking access to downtown Ouray. However, the sites backing to the River make the location more enjoyable. Very pretty view of the water and the background noise is lovely. Our picnic table in one site literally sat next to/on top of our neighbor's sewage hose. However the customer service is amazing, the facilities are VERY clean, and they definitely make you feel welcomed. We book here any time we come to Ouray. read more

We travel all over the west and have probably stayed in 50 camp sites. The 4 J+ is my favorite place to go...of all of them. Ouray is simply the most beautiful town in America and the 4 J with its trees and setting right next to the river, is a perfect complement to this beautiful town and setting. It has easy walking access to the town, with walking access to one of the most beautiful hiking trails in The US. The people at the 4J are multiple generation owners. The main attribute this campground has going for it is location. You are a short walk to the hot springs and downtown. It is clean and, while the sites are small, it is easy to see why as you are between a mountain and a river so space is at a premium. Clean facilities and friendly staff are a nice bonus. read more

Location, location. Otherwise 1 star. We liked being able to walk into historic Ouray. Beautiful town. The campground is clean, has clean bathrooms, very nice staff... but... a public road splits through the campground that the local kids seem to like annoying the campers by riding their unmuffled dirt bikes up and down late at night. The police do drive by regularly and I think it is very safe but keep an eye on your kids and pets while walking along the road. If you book a spot I recommend getting one along the river to drown out the noise. read more

This was the third year that we camped here in our mini camper. We reserve the same space each year along the water. Coming from Arizona it's such a treat to see green and hear the sounds of water rushing by. We love this campground. It is paved, has trees, and one side is up against the mountain. The bathroom and showers are extremely well maintained. The shower always has hot water. There are washers and dryers and the office staff have always been helpful and friendly. It is close to everything and reasonably priced. There is tent camping to large motor homes to 5th wheels. Families, dogs all are welcomed and its just a pleasant experience and relaxing. We go for the off roading and love ending the day here. read more

It's a great location. It's next to a trailer park but it's well maintained. There's no fire pits for the RV spots but some do have charcoal grills. If you expect to do laundry you need to do it before six or they lock the facilities. Other than that it's a great place. read more

The pull through site was barely long enough to accommodate our trailer and truck. No place to park our truck except right in front of our trailer and barely off the road. The sites are so close together with our slides out and our neighbors slides out just a few to maneuver between sites. Our picnic table is right next to our neighbors sewer hose, disgusting !! so we won't be enjoying any meals or time outside our camper! No place to take your dog to do their business without them becoming a muddy mess. The few spots of grass in the park have a sign saying 'no pets' you cannot ride atv's from campground. Will look for someplace else in the future. Booked because we had seen good reviews but were disappointed!9 read more
