This is a family favorite, every time we have visitors we have to bring them to 492 BBQ, and have never had one complaint! Owner is super personable, greeting tables and asking about your experience. Best customer service from the employees too, in all of the RGV! read more

Loooove this place! I like to go on Saturdays just for the DinoRib. It is delicious! Huuuuge rib loaded with meat that falls off the bone, it almost tastes like barbacoa by how soft and juicy it is. The brisket sandwich and chicken are very good too. Always super juicy. The lemonade tastes freshly squeezed and served on a big mason jar. Service is always great-super friendly. read more

Best BBQ in the valley. Very friendly staff. Comfortable environment. Fair price. Plenty of parking. Ribs are great but call ahead to make sure they haven't sold out. Brisket is one of my favorites in all of texas. read more

Heaven. Ribs, chicken and brisket all deliciously tender. This little place is out of town and quaint. The baked potato was so tender and helped the vegetarian in the group enjoy the meal too. Didn't have room for the pecan pie but it sure looks delicious. Plan to come and eat. read more

We have been here 7 times my wife ordered leg quarter plate and ask the waitress how much for a extra leg quarter. She was told $1.09 but when we paid the supposed manager said it was an extra $4.99 for a leg quarter, and was argumentative. They need to get another manager if she is the manager and we will not be back. read more

Love the brisket sandwiches! Wish they had homemade mac and cheese then i would give 5 stars. Ribs are delicious too.

Our favorite is the Chopped Beef BBQ on Baked Potato! Loaded and so YUM! Fast and easy take out during this time of restrictions, just call in the order and they bring it to your car. read more

492 Bbq - 492 BBQ Chopped Baker - Barbeque Near Me - Mission, Texas

Last nite we went to 492 BBQ. Loved the building & decor. The service was great--very attentive. Everyone seemed to enjoy their dinners which were from full rack of ribs, half bbq chicken, 2 sliced briskets & 2 briskets & sausage. I thought the scoop of potato salad was smallish & the mexican rice a wee bit bland. The almost shaved brisket was tasty but could've used a little "richer" sauce. read more

Reason been had the worst service they didn't have lamb chops they brought us the wrong order the waiter was new horrible never again ‍

I came here with co-workers in search of some good old fashioned Texas BBQ, and 492 BBQ did not disappoint. It's tucked away in what looks like an old house, which is apparently a hallmark of authentic BBQ around here - an atmosphere I love. Once inside, we sat down at a small table. The interior here is what you'd expect of south Texas kitsch -- stuffed deer heads, rattlesnake skins and fur pelts, along with some ancient family & obscure celebrity autographed photos. I ordered the brisket with the fajita option, and the meat was delicious. I could have enjoyed an entire meal of their chips & salsa -- chunky salsa with just enough kick. They also make their own flour tortilla chips, where are a delightful combination of chewy and crispy. The mac & cheese side that I got, however, tasted like it came straight from the blue Kraft box, but not before spending a little too much time in the water. Service was prompt and courteous, and the lady who helped us made some very helpful recommendations. Definitely a place I'd come back to! read more

I've tried BBQ all over the state (Austin, Lockhart, Driftwood, Lexington, Wharton, Houston, Beaumont, Galveston, Angleton etc). This place was a great find! The baby back ribs were amazing, the brisket had great flavor. The BBQ sauce is really good and the fajitas have a nice seasoning. The baked potato is fairly big. Overall if I'm in the area I would come back. Oh and it is very inexpensive for BBQ! read more

This place is worth the drive. We drove over for some late night BBQ. My wife had the chopped brisket sandwich & I had a 3 meat combo. We were surprised with the fresh made lemonade. Hard to find. Nice atmosphere. Great servers. We had a table of 15. We phoned ahead with the orders several days before so it came out fast. The fajita orders didn't have a tortilla. The beef short ribs weren't so great. The back ribs and everything else were wonderful. Smoked chicken was outstanding. read more

This is my favorite place in my home town to eat barbecue. They have plenty of options to choose from and the sides are amazing, specially the rice. The chopped brisket is very moist. I usually order the three plate meal, I order fajita, chopped brisket, and the chicken quarter. read more

Very rustic feel to the dining area. Service was on point. The food was plentiful in respects to portions but did lack in flavor. All the bbq had bbq sauce on it as well. Overall I enjoyed my lunch and look forward to coming back with my co-workers to take advantage of this good value. read more

492 Bbq - Staff at 492 barbeque - Barbeque Near Me - Mission, Texas

492 BBQ - Edinburg location: New location, trendy, good ambiance is about all I can say about 492. I've tried this place twice now hoping the first time was an "off day" for them but I remain not impressed because the brisket is sliced paper thin and slathered in BBQ sauce. Although the sauce is sweet & tasting the fatty brisket leaves much to be desired as it lacks the smoke flavor & true smoke ring. The ribs were tender but also lacked that good smoky BBQ flavor. The sides included rice & beans and the rice was soft and had the true Mexican cumin flavor & spice. At first glance of the beans, they look tasty by seeing small cubes of onion, pepper, and bacon. However, the cumin flavor added to the beans takes away from the dish itself and whether you're eating rice or beans - you're tasting the strong cumin added. Although the preparation sets itself apart from the others, the expectation of "Texas" BBQ is off scale. read more

This is a unique BBQ place that serves great food and feels very warm and welcoming the place looks amazing it's like an old fashion wood house that is filled with history through the walls inside. They have amazing bbq and the lemonade they serve is huge. read more

WARNING! If you get the BEEF SHORT RIBS be prepared to pay the up-charge for FAJITAS!!! My wife and I had lunch there today and each of us ordered the 2 meat/2 sides BBQ plate which was listed on the menu at $8.49 a plate - unless you choose fajita or pulled pork, then it's $9.99. The menu states "Choose from: Fajitas, Chicken, Beef Short Ribs, etc" We both chose chicken and beef short ribs because we really didn't want to pay the $1.50 up-charge per plate just to get Fajita or Pulled Pork. When I went to pay I noticed the amount was high so I asked why. The lady said because we had gotten the Beef Short Ribs and "here we count that the same as Fajita." That is FALSE ADVERTISING!!! If they are going to do that, they should say so on the menu as well as having their wait staff advise the customers about it. After arguing with her, she finally had me go ahead and sign my receipt with the higher charge then opened the till and handed me $3.00 (so she kept the additional taxes for herself). HILARIOUS, OUTRAGEOUS IGNORANCE!!! read more

This place is the best BBQ here in the Valley. Food tastes awesome and good portions for the price

By far the best bbq place I've been too in south texas really great Texan themed place.

Standard Texas bbq with a Tex mex flair. Option of fresh tortillas and pico with your ribs or brisket. Had the lamb ribs and was delighted with the smoking/char grilling technique common to Texas bbq. This combo renders meat tender but also gives it a little char flavor and ensures it comes to the table hot. Smoke only preparations common throughout the south often deliver a plate with room temperature meat. Muy bien amigos read more

Brisket had a bad taste and I like the BBQ sauce on the side. They drenched the meat in BBQ sauce, meat taste better with seasoning and natural juices. read more

In the area for work and we were taken here for lunch. Wonderful BBQ and great atmosphere. Ate here multiple times during our trip.

This bbq place is awesome the chicken is always so juicy with good flavor, the brisket is always moist , the fajitas are so soft, the ribs fall right off the bone. Definitely a good place to eat. I recommend ordering the sampler platter which has a bit of everything. read more

I enjoyed the lemonade in the mason jar but the bbq, not so much. The meat taste bland and lacks authentic bbq flavor and aroma. The meats are served bathed in bbq sauce to mask the lack of bbq flavor. It actually tasted like it was cooked in the oven. read more

Awesome bbq place!! Love every inch of it, the food tastes beyond amazing. I recommend this place to anybody that loves bbq!!

Great service, awesome classic decor, damn good bbq. I don't have to say more. Really tucked away thank god for yelp because they satisfied my bbq craving and in my opinion put alot if well renowned bbq places here to shame. Top quality ingredients. Signature sourdough rolls a bit sweet but still damn good. Fajitas on point smoked to perfection. My honest opinion make a drive out here you WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED! Keep up the good work!!! read more

Great place baby backs were awesome, comes with 2 sides I ordered fries, and Mac and cheese. Fries were great! Mac and cheese was kraft, I was expecting homemade. The food is delicious but the staff seems to cater more to the Winter Texans and leave us locals ignored. Gone twice and both times got the same ugly treatment. I do believe they have the best bbq in the valley but it's not worth my trip to get treated like I don't belong. I will not return. read more
