Only an hour north of Spokane, 49 Degrees North Resort was a great option to ski and snowboard while visiting the area for work. It was funny that locals said the snow conditions weren't great but there was still 20 feet of snow at the base & 40 feet at the summit. That sounded great to me, coming from a state with only a couple inches of snow on the ground! There were 2 chair lifts closed still due to the "low snow" but there were plenty of ski trails open to use. With only $35 for a half-day lift ticket, it was well worth it! I was only on greens/blues and the snow wasn't deep but it was still fluffy (not icy) and groomed well. We were above the clouds and the snow-covered humongous pine trees was breathtaking. Overall Tips: - Half-day lift ticket hours starts at 12:30pm until close (4pm) and only $35! Save an additional $1 if you are a student. - The bunny hill is at chair lift 3. - Take the chair lift 3 up the bunny hill to get to chair lift 4 and the other trails on the backside of the mountain which are worth going to. - The chalet is by no means a fancy mountain resort so you may want to get food elsewhere if you are picky. The food is your typical overpriced greasy fare. The fries, soup & hot cocoa were still good to have as an option though when I needed a quick energy boost. Overall a great option since it's pretty close to Spokane and has some decently long trails. The views above the clouds made my trip! I'd come back again, especially for that price! read more

Came here a few years ago, was nearby so tried it again. Nice that it wasn't crowded. Their rental shop is OK, but they don't have a wide selection of boots or helmets for odd sized feet or heads, be aware. Also they pulled a little switcheroo with charging us for a helmet rental, then when none could be found that fit they said they'd do a cash refund for us "later" at "the end of the day." When we showed up at the end of the day the rental guy had emptied his till so they switched to a "gift card" for a future visit. Very slick business practice. The chairs are fairly old, no frills. Given how long most of them are it would be nice if they added the swing down safety bars/leg rests, especially considering the accident they recently had in the news. Also need better, larger and more signs at trail splits, it's easy to get lost. The one saving grace for this place is the snow quality, the powder is fantastic. read more

After skiing one season here, my old criticisms were confirmed. The mountain just isn't well laid out typographically for ski runs. Each run leads to many flat spots and dead ends to cat tracks and trails to get you around gullies or flat areas. Nothing flows at all. The runs are short and then end. Forcing you to trails to exit and odd traverses. The bottom half of the mountain is a waste of ski time. But you have to ski it to get back on the lifts. Angel Peak is a joke. It's not a peak and the lift goes sideways to the runs creating a weird downhill run. The east chair is super slow and should also end at the top of the hill. Instead it goes flat for a other couple hundred yards. Again, wasted time sitting on a lift for not much ski reward. The tree runs get so quickly over grown with trees that constant brush cutting is needed. And very little steep parts to the mountain. Other than that, parking is good and food is good and well priced. But the layout of the mountain is awful. read more

Our family enjoyed not only the ski part of the mountain but also the Cross Country Ski and Snowshoe trails too. Miles of trails and very kind service from Greg who works down at the Snowshoe and Cross Country station. On the ski mountain there was kind and very friendly staff at every opportunity. Kitchen, Bar, Ski instructor, daycare, lift operators, and staff just walking the halls just to name a few. Had some of the best food I've ever had on a ski mountain today and it was fairly inexpensive. Little to no wait times at the lifts were a norm all day. To cap this off, I have been to 4 of the areas 5 snow hills and this ranks the best out of every category. Wish I still lived in this area to be able to take advantage of this hill more often. read more

I went here for an early season trip during the 16/17 ski season. It was my first time to 49 North and for mid December the snow was pretty great. But the snow isn't something they can control. What they can control is their price and their facilities, and those I was not happy with. My main issue is with their price. I get that there has been a trend in recent years with mountains raising their prices, but if 49 North is going to charge $58 dollars for a regular adult lift ticket, they had better deliver. For the size of the mountain (quite average), the quality of their lifts (old and slow), and their basic lodge; charging $58 is unreasonable. It seems like they're just trying to take advantage of customers because they are one of the mountains closest to Spokane. I've heard rave reviews from friends about how close and affordable 49 North is. Close? Absolutely. Affordable? Only if you're 6 or younger (cause then it's free). If 49 North had a price that matched their quality this place would be a fantastic mountain to visit. The only consolation I will give them is that it's great they have given away so many free tickets at the Spokane Snowlander Expo the last couple of years. But if I hadn't gotten a free ticket, I wouldn't have gone. read more

Great place, conveniently located near Spokane and Colville and cheaper than many ski resorts in the WA, ID, and BC area. It is a bit smaller mountain, but for a day of skiing/boarding, you can't go wrong here. The best thing about 49DN is the staff - they could run a clinic on customer service. It was easy to just strike up conversation with them and they were very helpful. They would go above and beyond to ensure that equipment was working well, quick to help struggling skiers, and instructors were knowledgeable and thorough. They have multiple deals (BOGO coupons from Papa Murphy's, Toyota free ski days, etc...) to make your trips a bit more affordable too. I'll be back for sure. read more

Love this place. A broad range of runs, consistently best snow between WA and ID, and the staff are all great. If you have beginners this is probably the perfect place too because of the not-boring options for new skiiers. read more

High-speed chairs would earn them a much better rating but I seem to spend most of the day on the chair just waiting for my next run. The terrain is pretty far reaching for as many lifts as they have at this quaint little hill and the snow maintenance has been pretty good on my visits. This place should NOT be compared to anything in western Washington or Oregon as it is far smaller with fewer amenities. The main lodge is cute, but nothing to die for. Typical brown bagger kind of a hill with a bar but no table service. If you want that pitcher, you need to keep someone sober enough to stumble back up there and carry another one over after your day on the hill. The bar area appears to be set up for live performance or at least large sporting events but I have never seen anything going on myself. Overall, this is a good option for northeastern Washington but if you have the extra time, you should make the pilgrimage to Schweitzer Mountain in Sandpoint, ID. read more

About 45 miles north of Spokane and a very mild drive up to the mountain. Not a big resort mountain destination like Schweitzer but a great family hill. Chair 3 (beginner) is situated to one side that segregates the beginners area away from the main area. So if you are learning, you are around others at an equal level. I really like this so for the most part there are not more advanced people barreling through. Plus the lift runs a bit slower than the others making it accommodating for beginners. When the all lifts are running, a fairly diverse hill that will keep most skill levels occupied all day. The lodge itself is basic. It has a cafeteria style eatery with cafeteria quality food and a bar. read more

Schweitzer and 49 really shouldn't be compared to each other. It's like comparing apples and oranges, two completely different offerings of ski mountains, but since everyone seems to...let me just say; Schweitzer has nothing on 49 Degrees North considering how much you pay for Schweitzer (expensive). Forty Nine has great hills, many runs to chose from, and a great price for the deal you get. They have a variety of groomed hills, easy trails for sailing down to very difficult if you want a challenge. It isn't as big as Schweitzer, but still has over 80 runs of all different types. My favorite is Klondike and Lost Dutchman to name a few. Mahre's Gold is fun to blast down as well. The staff! The staff is second to none. They are helpful, friendly and very knowledgeable about the mountain. We had a beginner in our group and one of the volunteers took her all the way down from where she started educating her the entire way, so she'd be a better skier in the end. And she was. They go above and beyond. It's not a long drive from Spokane either and they keep the main road (Flowery Trail)up to the mountain very plowed and drivable. I love this mountain. It is my #1 choice for skiing in Eastern Washington or Idaho...always. read more

I really wanna like this place. The snow is good this month (Jan 18) and it is a fun place to ski. However, parking lot attendants are close to useless and I've seen some pretty disgusting food handling in the cafeteria. Overall, they need to treat their customers better and up their service levels. I can't see this place becoming a resort when they struggle with the easy tasks. read more

This is my home away from home. Great snow, technical runs and most importantly a family friendly and affordable ski hill. Customer service is outstanding from inside the lodge to ski lift operators. Love the new upgrades and vision of the mountain and have high hopes we can retain the small hill friendliness and pricing that meets most families budget. read more

This is only my second mountain, since I started boarding two months ago, but I have to say that it's a great mountain. The last week of the season, Toyota sponsors free skiing and boarding. I took full advantage since their normal prices are a bit high. It was a blast. It wasn't that busy, there was hardly any lines for the lifts and I happened to go on a day with fresh powder. I'm not an expert but this is a must hit mountain for next season. The staff was very friendly and the overall mood of the skiers and boarders was great. I recommend hitting the slopes to see for yourself. read more

2nd best mountain in Eastern Washington/North Idaho, behind Schweitzer. Anyone who says Silver is better is A.) not very good B.) Probably falls down getting on/off lifts A LOT. Not nearly as much terrain, but if you're creative you can still get some epic runs and they usually open first. Nice little park for my failed 360 attempts. read more

Rental equipment was a bust...waste of money. Faulty bindings on their snowboard, 2 sets of faulty bindings. They wouldn't do a refund, partial credit, or any sort of comp for their equipment not working properly. read more

We went in Christmas Day with about 2" of fresh snow. The half day lift price of $36 for 12:30-3 is a great deal on an unbusy day. My only compliant is poor and limited signage on the slopes, which got us mixed up enough times that we couldn't take as much advantage of our time as we would have liked to. read more
