Sue Kincaid + Doug Yeomans Last night we made the trip to East Aurora to catch Doug Yeomans and Sue Kincaid at 42 North Brewing Co. We called ahead but they don't take reservations and suggested we come early, as Sue and Doug have "quite a following"! Really nice night at 42 North. The staff are friendly, the BBQ food is good and ya couldn't beat it as the audience let lose and sang along for one song as if they'd done it before! ) Mostly though, it was Doug on guitar and vocals + Sue, vocals and a variety of hand held percussion instruments. I knew it was two vocalists and one guitar but I swear, it sounded like two guitars and one vocalist the way he plucked away and they harmonized!! They made it look easy and fun to do, but their talent didn't happen overnight! Both are seasoned musicians and giggin for tips on a Saturday night! 42 North is a chic blend of brewery and bbq joint. Clean and modern with a rustic throwback. It gets quite loud with all the casual chatter and conversation. Ordering is a little slow with one cashier at the counter, and people browsing the menu for a long time. The food doesn't take too long to come out though. Of the samplers that we tried, it was the corn that we liked best. Nicely seasoned and cooked perfectly. Unfortunately the proteins themselves weren't either. Both were dry and overcooked, and the brisket was lacking in flavor. What bits of the rind and crust were left on the brisket were good, however. The beans were very sweet, and the potato salad dry. We stopped in after a long hike and were hungry and we ate everything, so it was not a bad experience. We had, unfortunately, fell victim of the hype and were expecting more. read more

Stopped in with friends for lunch. Unfortunately, b/c Fat Bob's provides the food, almost everything was bbq, which I wasn't in the mood for. Chose the nachos, without any meat: tortilla chips piled high with warm queso, tomato, onion, cajun corn & fresh jalapenos. Served with a side of sour cream and homemade salsa. Loads of nachos, but not enough cheese, no black olives ( description did not include them, but I thought they were standard with nachos). Have had better elsewhere. I've been here after trail races and twice recently within the last three weeks to see musicians. I came here four days ago to see the Adriana Noone Band. I came here two weeks before that to see Public Water Supply. Both bands were really fantastic!!! Adriana Noone played there four days ago. She and her band were absolutely amazing! I had amazing bartenders who brought be great beer. My favorite is the Asylum Porter. They used to have their own food but Fat Bob's Smokehouse does it now. I had two Texas Twinkies. They were bacon wrapped jalapeños. They have a unisex bathroom upstairs on the mail level, near where you walk in. They also have bathrooms downstairs. They have a dog bowl and a water cooler outside near the bar. Creamsicle gose 6/10. Reminds me of a beer mimosa. Fat Bobs BBQ at 42N: I got the slider trio: -Brisket 8/10. Tender, but was a little dry. -Pork 9/10. Had a nice Smokey flavor. My favorite meat/sandwich out of the three. Which is strange because usually I like brisket better. -Chicken 7/10. My husband loves their beers, and we almost always have a keg from them on tap at home. Service has been great every time. They have food from Fat Bobs which is fine. Last time I got a pulled chicken sandwich and it was so greasy I couldn't finish it, but I'm hoping it was just a bad day, everything else I've had there is great. This place is so much bigger than it looks from the outside. There are about 4 different rooms plus a huge biergarten in the back. There are beautiful wooden floors throughout the brewery and you get to see the equipment they use for brewing through the back door to get outside, it's very cool. Stopped here for dinner with a friend that wanted to try out Fat Bob's. Food was very good even though I'm not personally a huge BBQ fan. My friend got the brisket, with beans, and coleslaw. She said she really enjoyed it also. I had the Atlanta Mac Bowl. There was a lot of food as I took some home and ate twice the next day. I also tried a sour craft beer which was also very good. Customer service. Not the best. It took about 10 minutes before I was acknowledged at the bar, during a not-so-busy time. Atmosphere: Popular for "trendy" crowd, but also kid-friendly. They have games (bubble hockey, board games, cards) and a lounge type area which are great for families. Food: It's nice to be able to get Breadhive pretzels in the southtowns. I just ordered a basic salad. I felt $9 was kind of pricey for a salad with tomato, pickled onions, shredded cheese, and croutons. Note: Lunch/regular dining menu is not served until 2pm on Sundays. The vibes here are stellar. I had the pleasure of visiting this establishment twice within a week. The first time was a Friday for happy hour with a bunch of co-workers. It is exciting to commence those rendezvous again. We were able to snag a spot outside and it was magic. Unfortunately, we were told we couldn't all hang together, and had to split into two group of 10. We played musical chairs a lot that night to catch up with all. To order cocktails, you have to go to the main bar, which is inside, you can't order cocktails from the outside bar. On that occasion I had the Moscow Mule, which was refreshing on a hot spring night. I also tried one of their hard seltzers. The first couple sips I was into and it tasted like a beer, and then my experience slowly turned into it tasting like an IPA, which I am not fond of. I won't be ordering the seltzer again, but the cocktails are fab. During my second visit, it was somewhat windy and chilly, but I wanted to take advantage of the nice outdoor space. There was a fire going and the ambiance was killer. Unfortunately, an umbrella was blown over onto someone, and it could have been a disaster, but it wasn't and we retreated inside. On this occasion I had the mule again, and it was still good. My date had a pineapple beer and he seemed to enjoy it. When we were inside imbibing at the bar, a cornhole tournament was being aired on the television and although I wasn't into it, I liked the scene inside, which before, I wasn't able to fully take in. I'm really digging this place and I'm sure it will become one of my regular summer hangout spots. read more

We stopped here for a quick drink and bite to eat on a Sunday afternoon. I've always loved Fat Bob's and this was my first chance to experience them in their new home at 42 North. We explored the space a little bit and settled at the upstairs bar (after we realized it was the only operating bar). We hit the bar and ordered right away, they gave us a number to take away and promised to bri g the food out quickly. The place was pretty packed although the tables were pretty spaced so it didn't feel like a big deal. We sat and the food quickly followed. The pulled pork, potato salad, and corn bread were all great. My wife got mac and cheese and I know she loved that too. All and all it was a nice quick trip for a bite and a beer. If I had to voice a complaint, I probably have two. The food was pretty expensive for what it was. A relatively small/medium portion of pulled pork and sides cost 15 dollars. I could have got the sandwich and sides much cheaper. Also they had some live entertainment which was nice but incredibly loud, I could barely hear my wife 2 feet away from me. read more

Many moons ago as a Buff State student I really didn't like beer. Sure I threw back Blues, Molson, and Moosies at keg parties, but I didn't like the taste much. Then my father returned from a business trip in California with some bottles of Pete's Wicked Ale and Anchor Steam Ale. I was hooked on craft beer. Fast forward to today and my wife and I are fortunate to live in Loudoun, County Virginia, also known as Brewdoun County because of the 20+ breweries here. My parents had also spoken highly of 42 North, so for our recent trip back home we went and went again! First let's get into the beer. Everything they have is worth at least trying. Here are my notes: 1. Asylum (6.8 ABV and 45 IBU)-a truely outstanding robust porter if you like this style of beer. Good coffee notes, but not so extreme that you will feel like you were transported to Spot coffee or Starbucks. Some dark chocolate and a little smokiness. Would be great in a cold weather outdoor BBQ/grill situation or around a home fireplace in the winter. 2. Borderland (6.8 ABV and 72 IBU) is an American IPA. Some West Coast IPA taste like you are chewing on a pine cone. Not this one. I'm assuming they are Citra and/or Mosaic hopping since there is strong citrus flavors with this IPA. Also some other fruit. I picked up mango. This is a pretty easy drinking IPA, but with plenty of flavor. 3. Oatmeal Cookie Brown Ale (5.8 ABV and 22 IBU)-I loved this beer, but my wife and mother thought it was too sweet. Net/net if you like oatmeal cookies you will like this ale. They nailed the cookie flavor. They have good bar food with a twist here. The stand out for me was the beef on weck pierogi with braised red cabbage. Paired great with the IPA. Nachos were awesome too. Tasting room is good size and there is a covered deck and a fenced in section outside. Overall vibe is artsy. Plenty of parking. Service was outstanding both times. 42 North combines all that is good about WNY. Good, but non-pretentious food, beer, art, family and friends. What a great place. Can't wait to return. read more

This is definitely the most ascetically pleasing brewery I've been to. Great layout, great decor, plenty of space and seating. Stopped in after reading about a can release today. The husband got some beer and i got some mac n cheese. Everything on the menu was a little too "hipster" for me. The Mac n cheese was good but had a lot of onion in it. It's cool they promote using local ingredients but some menu items had just too much going on for me. I'm a simple person. If you're a beer lover this is a must stop. read more

They had one cider that was excellent and nice to have variety and choices besides typical beer. There was a collection of old games you could play at your table (clue, trivial pursuit). The cans of the Pilsner were tops, and it was the best NEIPA I have had in a while in Max's Mistake. The Scotch, Dubbel, and Grand Cru were also great. I wandered into this brewery knowing very little about it and ended up really liking it. The beers my partner and I tried were all pretty unique, and we loved the fire pit in the beergarden to hang out at. They also allow dogs in the outdoor area which is really nice. The service was great, though I was disappointed their ovens were broken so I didn't get to try the soft pretzel (going to have to come back for that!) read more

42 North is a newer brewery to the WNY scene, but they have definitely made themselves known in the time they've been open! As a lover of all outdoor seating, their beer garden style patio is wonderful. Plus, you can bring your dog! They've got lounge chairs around a fire pit, smaller tables, and large picnic tables. Not only are their drinks delicious, they have paired up with Fat Bobs to bring their delicious downtown BBQ to the south towns. This is gonna be one of my go to spots this summer - what more could I need than cold beer, BBQ, and petting other peoples dogs?! Really nice comfortable spot, with great beers. I really loved the variety of the beers they had on tap. The bartender kept the tasters coming and I was able to try quite a few of their options. I also appreciated that the guys working at the bar are clearly craft beer fans, and they were able to point me in the direction of some other great beer spots. Recommended beers: Wallonia Wit, Oatmeal Cookie Brown Ale. They also had a west coast IPA that was bitter enough for this former San Diegian to give a stamp of approval. And their barrel aged brett sasion bears a striking resemblance to Stone's cali-belgique IPA aged in white wine barrels, a beer I am a big fan of and probably not something you see out here in WNY much if ever. All in all I think from the beer styles to the passionate bartenders this place reminded me the most of my old San Diego home so far, and that's pretty much the highest compliment I give. I loved the feel of the brewery but the vibe was very odd with their music choice. It took the feel of a cool and vibrant gem in East Aurora to a teenager who found Bob Dylan in their dads closet. It made customers talk so unnecessarily loud to drown out the brooding crooning and hacking ukulele. Not only that, but I was severely let down in what their kitchen put out. I was so excited to get my hands on Fat Bobs in the south towns. The nachos were nil in comparison to their old nachos. My brisket mac and cheese was unremarkable to say the best. I only got the chance to come here once before COVID and I can't wait to come back. We came during the summer time last year and really enjoyed the huge bonfire with lots of picnic tables and chairs all over the huge beer garden. On multiple occasions we've come to this brewery and have never been disappointed. Their beer styles vary but there's always one to three that I could or did enjoy. The food doesn't disappoint and our kids have destroyed an order or two of the grilled cheese they had on menu once. Their Nytro porter tastes like a good cup of coffee but wasn't overpowering. It was a really great beer & we ended up taking a four pack home for later. This review is only about their drive-thru service during the COVID-19 pandemic. They have certain hours that the drive-thru is open to come and pick up your favorite beers. There is a tent setup by the front entrance and you drive up, let them know what you want, pay and they bring you your order, without you having to get out of the car. Most weeks they offer cans, crowlers, barrel-aged bottles, and kegs. When I arrived there were a few cars ahead of me, but it went quickly as they have a few people manning the pick-up. A worker came up to my window and asked what I'd like, then went and grabbed them from the stock they have outside. When he came back with the beer, he took my card and ran it quickly and brought the card back sanitized. He was wearing gloves as well.
