The store appeared to be well stocked. However, the older man behind the counter would not talk to me or answer questions. He understood me but maybe doesn't speak English. He barely mumbled. I bought 2 items that he didn't bag and couldn't be ruder! Had no interest in customer service. Bad vibe. read more

Maybe the strongest selection of spirits in Santa Cruz that I've seen. Still, it sucks that the guy at the register is so rude. Complained that I didn't buy enough from him that day. Very unprofessional. read more

Very conveniently located on 41st right off highway 1 and plenty of parking. It's just a small store but usually stocks your harder to fine whiskeys such as from Buffalo Trace distillery. The staff was very friendly and helpful as well. read more

41st Avenue Liquor - OLD FITZGERALD 13 YEARS - Beer, Wine & Spirits Near Me - Capitola, California

Okay I have to admit I was super excited to get a BevMo in Capitola and although I had driven past 41st Ave Liquors too many times to count it wasn't until a friend brought some unusual ciders to a BBQ that I realized I had a better place then BevMo right in my backyard and had been ignoring it for years. Now BevMo has it's place, especially when it comes to wine selection but I think 41st Ave Liquors has them beat on almost everything else. It looks like any other sketchy liquor store from the street, but don't be fooled. If your Imbibe magazine is calling for some strange bitters, hard to find liquer or any other ingredient, you stand a good chance at finding it here. The staff are really helpful, they have the LARGEST beer selection I have ever seen and some really fun and unusual things I just can't wait to try. You really should check them out, you won't be sorry. read more

Awful! The owner is so rude I almost returned my purchase. After spending over $100 on interesting liquor he asked if this was all. I said yes and he sneered and said ... "are you sure because you haven't fingered every bottle." NEVER go here! read more

This place has the best selection of beers and wines in area, and the owner and staff are the most knowledgeable about their inventory. The prices are great. They are so careful about their selections, you can pull anything off the shelf and it will be good. But, if you want guidance about their many selections, some of which you can't find anywhere else nearby, just ask: they will kindly ask you a series of questions and guide you towards some excellent selections. I like French wines- best selection in town! I shop nowhere else and encourage others to give this place a try. Very convenient, wonderful place!! read more

Charming, knowledgeable owner runs a fine shop with dedicated and knowledgeable staff! Lovely wine selections from around the world in all price ranges, don't be afraid to ask for suggestions! Good sales on wines and I suppose liquor too but that was not the reason for my visit. A long time Santa Cruz gem, keep patronizing them to keep the store around. We out of towners will try to do our bit too! read more

I've come here a few times because of their large selection of German and other imported beers, which includes many that are not available at the Bevmo down the street. Last weekend I bought a Schneider-Weiss Tap 7 (Hefeweizen), and it tasted surprisingly caramelly and un-hefeweizen. So I checked the date on the bottle, and it's 3 1/2 years old! Beers that old should not be on the shelf. So I checked the other two beers I had bought. Edelweiss Hefetrüb: 1 1/2 years old. Erdinger Hefeweizen: 4 months past the "best before" date. That's 100% expired. The 3 1/2 year old Schneider-Weiss is unforgivable. If I ever come here again I'll be checking the dates closely, and I won't buy anything without a date on it. BTW here is a website I use to decode bottling dates: freshbeeronly dot com. read more

I asked the person behind the counter why he doesn't have single beers he told me I was not Bright enough to see them. I left pissed off. Then went back to ask if he was the owner he said yes. Go Fuck Yourself! I wouldn't have gave him 1 star unless I had to. read more

They were rude to my girlfriend who was trying to consult with me about beers over the phone and was obviously in a group and rushed. They were also trying to force help upon her when she hadn't requested it and was obviously busy (probably because they're hypertestosteroned young men and they've done it before). Then when many of their Belgians returned home (after they overestimated the number available) they had large deposits of growth in the bottom. We're not talking unfiltered yeast, we're talking evil in a bottle from a beer on the shelf years too long. Disappointing how the mighty have fallen. read more

Let me start by saying I like to support small and local business. I rarely take time to write negative reviews, but I thought I would provide a public service today! I walked in looking for Tito's vodka, and when I couldn't find it, I politely said to the owner, "do you not carry Tito's"? He rudely responded by saying, "no we stopped carrying it. We found that people who like Tito's don't really get our store." I said, "oh kind of like me, who has purchased numerous bottles of specialty tequila in your store?" He was so condescending and RUDE that I walked out and said, "you just lost yourself a customer." What a total and utter ass. I instead went across the street to BEVO and was treated courteously. read more

This guy is a complete jerk and he doesn't deserve your business... go somewhere else. I came in and asked for a product he didn't carry, instead of making eye contact and pleasantly suggested something else he snapped at me without looking up.. apparently this guy has a reputation of being a pretentious A.. I wouldn't buy a bottle of water here if I was dying of thirst. read more

I am a chef at a restaurant in the area and I usually avoid posting on yelp. Instead of publicly bashing a place I find that the better road to take if you don't like a business is to just never return. Today I was out grocery shopping and I was heading to BevMo to pick up a bottle of aperol. My wife and I like to have an aperol spritz after a long day of work. I passed by this liquor store and thought I might try a locally owned place instead. I really wish I wouldn't have wasted the 5 minutes of my life that I will never get back. I walked in to the shop and there was only 1 person working. He was an older guy who was balding with a white mustache and goatee. He was standing behind the register staring down at something with an emotionless face and blasting electronic music. I tried to say hi but he completely ignored me. I scanned the shelves looking over their selection of liqueurs, beers and wines. While I admired their selection I didn't see aperol on the shelf. I know aperol isn't a top shelf aperitif but hey, I like it. I walked up to the register and politely asked the man working behind the counter if they had any aperol. He looked at me with such a rude expression on his face as if to say "are you serious? Do you know where you are?" What he actually said in the most condescending tone was "we will never carry aperol. If you ever want to step it up and mix a real drink then come back and we will show you what you need". It was so rude and judging by all of the other negative reviews on their yelp page, this guy is the owner. He said it with such ease which made it feel like he actually enjoys putting people down and shaming them based on what they enjoy. How can a business owner treat their customers with such arrogance? If you enjoy giving your money to someone who could care less about you as a customer or human being and enjoys putting people down as a past time then head on over to 41st liquor and spend away. If not then choose one of the countless other local liquor stores to support. You have been warned! P.S. Yelp. You really should add a 0 star rating because this place would qualify.. read more

The owner of this place is an arrogant ass. Bought a nice bottle of whiskey from him and when i acquired about others he treated me as if i didn't have a clue. If i didn't really want the bottle i would have walked out. Ill never go back and will do my best to inform everyone i know how big an ass he is. read more

So the other day went in the other day to browse their fine selection of German beers. I was very excited with the selection. However as i went to make my purchase i was very unpleasantly surprised to find that the bald portly dude at the counter was a complete tool. This guy was such a dick that even his decent f beer selection in not enough for me to venture back to this place. i will definitely never go there again. There are better places to buy booze where the service is helpful the the register guy is not a complete ass! read more

The owner does not stand behind his product. I bought two bottles of wine from him. I wish there were a no star category because I would have used it. The clerk is a rude asshole. Terrible customer service.....

A trusted friend was insulted by the cashier. That's a Big No-No way to run a store. I hope to help steer at least one person away from here. read more

41st Ave Liquor On an adventure to the beach for a bonfire... But, it's necessary to make a pit stop for teh'uh,,, beer. So, we pull off on 41st and on the right you see the word LIQUOR brightly lit beckoning to me. Eh, perfect right? I walk in and the store is a little on the drab side but no worries I mean it is after all a liquor store. And I am a gal on a mission... head straight to the cooler boxes. OH MY..... Behold all the wonders and glory of the extensive beer selection. There were lagers, Ales, Porters, Stouts... Irish, German, Belgian... just freezer boxes full of the stuff... it was heavenly. I was looking briefly (again on a mission and time is short) and I remember the discovery of the Franziskaner while on my Big Sur adventure. Bingo!!... I say *clears throat* do you have the Franziskaner... the cashier looks a little puzzled, and another patron responds oh! yep, it's there! He walks over to the box takes out a six pack and hands it to me.. Whoot! I'm out, oh and I get a pack of gum... not much else in there but Liquor. A gum and candy rack, but I cant say for sure, didn't spend to much time looking around... I will say again though the Beer Selection is awesome!! read more

Great selection of beer. The owners a bit arrogant although he was trying to be helpful I suppose. The six pack I purchased was a month after the "enjoy by" date for optimal freshness date, I didn't think to check as I've never had an issue with beer being past their date. Overall I wouldn't go back, it's pricey and they sell expired beer. read more

i can't believe no one has reviewed this place yet. i think as far as liquor stores go, this is the king (or queen). we'll start with the small things that make it good: - large aisles so that no one can knock anything over. - its not think type that has more business with kids buying candy and ice cream. then what makes it better: - location (so easy to find and park) - staff (always giving suggestions) - the many fridges stocked with craft brew 6-packs, or euopean imports (not stella and heineken, but real european drinks) and the fridges full of individual bottles of all sizes. - great prices. read more

Easily the best beer selection in Santa Cruz county, as far as I know. They have a huge selection of craft beer and import singles of different sizes, which is great for trying out new beers without having to commit to a 6-pack. And plenty that you won't find anywhere else. They have it partitioned into different coolers -- 2 for american craft beer, 1 for belgians, 1 for UK imports, 1 or 2 for import lagers, and some for mass market beer as well. As a homebrewer, I'm excited to see lots of beers I've only heard about (belgian sour beers like rodenbach, etc., for example). They have some good examples of most beer styles (IPAs and double IPAs are usually what I go for). They also have what looks like a large wine and liquor selection, but I haven't really looked it over, being a beer drinker generally. I think they're planning to open a Bevmo down the street. I hope it doesn't drive this place out of business! Check out Bevmo, but check this place out too. The craft beer here is always fresh (important for hop character, especially in IPAs), but the beer at Bevmo tends to gather dust on the shelves. read more

The best place in Santa Cruz county for amazing, hard to find beer, wine and liquor. Awesome scotch selection that blows bevmo away. They usually have some good sales going on as well. The staff are pretty knowledgable if you go by during the day. read more

The owner of this business has a very rude affect and seems angry. Poor knowledge of their product, even worse customer service. They gave me the wrong bottle, which I asked for assistance in finding, and when I went to exchange it for the right one (exactly the same price) they said they had restocked it and there was a restocking fee so they wouldn't exchange it. Instead he tried to sell me another bottle to fix their original mistake. Yeah right. Think out of the box, guy. How much is the restocking fee? He didn't offer to have me pay the restocking fee in order to get what I actually wanted, it was 100% stonewall. read more

All you Belgian beer lovers, this place is a must. You'd never guess looking at it from outside, but this place has the best Belgian beer selection anywhere in the Bay Area. They have a nice selection of other imports as well as domestic beers, but their Belgian beer selection which is particularly nice. I have been visiting regularly for about ten years and according to my notes I have tried 230 different import beers from this store. The selection varies, I try to go at least once a month and every time I go there is something new I haven't tried before. Highly recommended! read more

Great selection of beer. Knowledgable staff. Locally owned. Good prices.

I was doing laundry next door a couple weeks ago and I went inside to kindly ask if he has change for a $20 and he rudely said no, and then I asked if I bought something, and he came back with "yes, that's what we do here, we sell things as he proceeds to the register I said that he didn't need to give me attitude, and he literally threw my change at me telling me "here's more attitude!" This place used to have one of the best beer selections in town, but you had to tolerate the overly obnoxious owner. I remember going in because I heard he stocked some lambics. I asked him about it and he bragged about his amazing selection and listed off all of these beers I was looking for and then told me that he wouldn't sell me any bottles. So strange. Now it's years later and lots of local places have better beer selections. Good riddance read more

Our go to when we vacation from San Jose, love the variety, but not too happy about the hours. Open at 10:00 am close at 7:30 pm, not the best option for a liquor store that wants you to shop local. Came at 10:10 am and they were closed, we left a little upset, but will just return on our way out. read more

Excellent selection of top quality microbrews, great prices and stock rotation. I stopped here twice a few months back, while heading to a cabin in the redwoods. I was with my buddy who is the head brewer, for a small microbrewery. We were both impressed by this shop, and my sister liked the selection of hard ciders. What sets this shop apart from others is: They appear to select the beer styles each microbrewery does best. The hoppy beers you want fresh, were fresh and tasty. The big beers that improve with age, they bring out of storage every so often or are already out on a shelf. (according to the clerk, and that matched with what we saw) The prices were very competitive or lower than you find elsewhere. Other bottle shops are buying too much stock of IPA's and double IPA's and letting them sit on a shelf until they taste poorly at best. Some chains have may even have the beer sitting in a warehouse, before it starts sitting on a shelf collecting dust. read more

I call this place the "Liquor Library", and the owner (Tom) is the perfect librarian. He's there most days, has a detailed knowledge of the inventory, and hand-picks quite a lot of the product, especially the microbrews, wine and higher-end spirits. I've frequently given him feedback about spirits and wine that I like, and he's used that to recommend other things I would never have found-- his judgment has always been spot-on. There's a great selection of spirits, especially for those who are looking for quality and rarity -- though they of course stock the staples too. On the surface one would think their Pinot Noir selection is skimpy, but there are no mediocre-or-worse bottles there-- seems that the owner is looking for quality but often budget-minded Pinots, which I've appreciated every time I've bought something new to me. The place is clean and friendly, there's good parking, all that. read more
