I had three different companies in Springfield come out and provide quotes. The Jon Wayne Heating and Air quote for a new Train unit was right in line with one other companies quote for the same equipment. I am a real researcher before a big purchase kind of guy, so I pretty much knew what I needed and the brands that were going to meet those needs before I even had one guy out. All that was left was convincing me who to use. The third company tried to sell me on a unit I didn't want so was out of the running right there. I was pleased that all of the different companies were similar in prices, but Jon Wayne Heating came recommended from a friend who used to work in the business. The owner himself came out, and I didn't feel like I just had some slick salesman working me over. He listened to my questions and was able answer them immediately and took the time to go over everything in detail. They also handled any City Utilities tax breaks and Train rebates so I didn't have to worry about that. On the day of the install the guys came out on time, were thoroughly professional and had the new system up and running without any issues. Before they left I inspected everything closely myself and asked a few questions which they were happy to answer. I have a great new system installed at a more than reasonable price in my opinion but to be honest the big selling point wasn't the price, it was the professionalism of the company that won me over.

However, that was the beginning of a year of headaches and runarounds. First of all, the unit they put in was entirely too big for the house (a 4 ton unit for a 1500 sq ft house). This was admitted by the techs when we called them out to address the extreme humidity in the house (80%+ humidity with the AC on), which was caused by having an oversized and overpowered unit. So we were given a unit completely inappropriate to what we needed, and charged more for it. This caused us headaches throughout the year. Fast forward to this winter, and we are having more issues with this year old furnace. We had to call them out twice in the course of a week to do repairs, at least one of those because the furnace froze up due to no one having thought of running a vent down to the cellar. We've ended up paying what is likely thousands of dollars more than is necessary stemming from this brand new unit which has given us far more grief than our previous unit ever did prior to it going out. Maybe my situation was unique, because I see all the positive reviews otherwise. However, if I were to recommend anyone to a friend, I would not recommend All Klear anymore. They've lost my confidence entirely.

A May, 2012, YouTUbe video by Consumer Reports helped identify the brand and, after inviting four different Heating/Cooling company representatives to my home, I identified which one would likely do the best install. From reading reviews on the Internet I knew that, even if the equipment was high quality, a poor installation could ruin everything. For me, then, it was clear that I needed quality equipment that would be properly installed. SS&B provided both. Several of my neighbors had the same brand of equipment and were very satisfied with its performance. Several had also used SS&B for their heating and air conditioning needs and were very happy with their work. Unlike the other three heating/cooling company representatives, the representative from SS&B spent a long time in my home asking about my heating/air-conditioning needs, carefully measuring the size of my home and how many square feet of window faced each direction, examining my crawl space (finding numerous leaks in my venting - a problem no other company even bothered to look for) and looked in my attic to determine the condition of my cold-air returns and the approximate R (insulating) value of my home's insulation. I got quite an education as we discussed the various types and sizes of furnaces and air conditioners. I settled on the one that would be best for me and within a week my old system was removed and my new system was installed. The installation took only 8 hours and the two men sent to do the work were skilled, focused, polite and did an excellent job.
