We initially agreed to have both the attic and the crawl space insulated. When I told Gabriel that the kitchen fan is currently venting into the attic, and that we need to find a roofer to make a hole to vent it outside, he offered to connect the fan to an existing fan, at no charge. We later changed our minds about the attic and decided to just have the crawl space insulated for the time being. But Gabriel insisted on fixing the kitchen vent anyway, even though his men no longer needed to climb in the attic at all. I protested, but he said he'd agreed to do it, so he will, still at no cost. I was flabbergasted by his generosity. The three young men who work for him were all sweet, polite, and arrived early, and left the place spotless, both inside and out. (As opposed to another company whose inspector left muddy footprints all over the beige carpet, even after I laid down some newspapers.) I can't recommend Gabriel and his company enough. He treats his customers as if we were family. Oh, and there's ALWAYS a nice secretary, Jesiemae, who answers the phone and books you an appointment on the spot. No annoying voicemail tags. I was initially impressed with what seemed like a thorough and well-considered estimate. It felt…read morelike the team really evaluated my attic and cooling needs. The addition of two QuietCool fans also seemed like a major plus, as I was already familiar with the product and expected it would significantly help with cooling. When it came to the insulation work, I was very pleased. The crew did an excellent job removing the old insulation and installing the new. They worked efficiently, protected my floors well, and ensured that no insulation debris entered the living areas. That part of the job was handled professionally. However, I was less impressed with the radiant barrier installation. This may partly be due to a misunderstanding on my end, as I expected a different type of material, but the end result did not meet my expectations. The biggest issue, unfortunately, was the installation of the fans. At best, it was very poorly executed. The fans are 16" units with 12" duct openings, yet they were installed directly against the gables, which severely restricts airflow. Proper installation should have included a box or shroud to help direct airflow effectively through the fans. Because of this poor airflow, the fans do not cool the attic--in fact, they appear to make things worse. I can actually watch the temperature on the thermostat increase when the fans are turned on. I reached out to my representative multiple times, but the response was disappointing. I was told they could not take the fans back, and when I asked why the attic temperature increases when they are running, I was told there was no explanation and nothing further could be done. As temperatures continue to rise, I'm left frustrated that I spent $1,200 on two fans that perform the opposite of what was promised, with no meaningful support or resolution offered. UPDATE: After posting my initial review, I was contacted by both the project manager and the owner. I reiterated the reasons for my frustration, explaining that my review reflected my honest impression of what I saw as a lack of clear communication and effective management of the project and customer expectations. The project manager apologized for the communication breakdown and asked if I would be open to giving them an opportunity to make things right. A technician was then sent out, and he took the time to fully understand the issue, carefully examine the installation, and make several adjustments to the original work. He believes these changes will help improve airflow in the attic. Since my attic has some unique characteristics, he also provided helpful suggestions for additional ways to improve cooling and airflow--something I feel should have been addressed during the initial planning stage of the project. Whether these changes will result in significant improvement remains to be seen; I'll have a better sense once the weather warms up. I do appreciate the follow-up and the willingness of the project manager to reach out and try to make things right, and I have updated my review accordingly. That said, I want to be clear that the increase in my rating is largely due to the technician and the time he invested in evaluating the full situation, as well as both implementing and proposing thoughtful solutions.

The work was a two day process from cleaning out the existing insulation from the attic and adjusting the ductwork, to sanitizing and air sealing all the cracks inside and outside, and filling with R-49 insulation. From the entrance of the house to the attic access, they spent the time putting down a barrier to prevent any mess to the rest of the house. I believe I will start to see the benefit more over the next few months. Honesty is the best policy and I choose to be transparent in my reviews. I did encounter a few issues related to the financing and some inaccuracies displayed on the company website. On the website when I was researching, there was an option for 100% financing, which as a single parent I needed, however, it turned out that wasn't an option and was incorrect on the website. Payment methods are either cash, check, or card, however, if you use a card there is 3.5% fee added to the transaction which can add up based on the job. This fee added $100 to my total, which I don't even think goes to the company but to the merchant. I wish this information was accurate and more readily available as it was one of the reason I was even able to find this company based on my search criteria. However, financing alone should not deter you or prospective customers from using this company. The owner, Anthony, was apologetic but I believe it was out of his control with the fees. His customer service alone is why I chose to continue doing business although my other quotes had financing options. Anthony definitely seemed like he would work with you if he could. The company was able to provide a quick turnaround for service, I believe he came on Monday for a quote, and then I had an appointment on Thursday. He was very responsive to emails and questions that I had. He has a crew, but is hands on with his jobs as well. One thing I should known and I hope to share the information with others is to check your vents after job completion. I wish I would have had them check after blowing the insulation. I had insulation coming out of the vent in my downstairs living room and still have insulation that blows out when I turn on my air conditioning in my bathroom. It was stuck in the vent so when I turn on the air, it blows out and I have to clean it up. So that's the only thing that I wish I had of known, or at least spot checked prior to their departure. In summary, I still give 5 stars. I would definitely recommend Definition Insulation. I felt comfortable with the owner, the job, and the crew and that means a lot. They were very knowledgeable in the field, in fact, Anthony used to work for an HVAC company, so he isn't just selling insulation to be selling it, he knows the benefits of it and how it can help cool your house down and lower your electric bill. I am hoping to notice a different next month. The customer service and fast turnaround were win-wins for me. I did as much research as I could and received 3 quotes from other companies, but Definition Insulation was the only one that included the removal on their quote, all of the others were going to put new insulation on top of at this point decades old insulation. It might be the difference between fiberglass insulation and cellulose insulation, but either way there should be removal as part of the newer insulation.
