Lindsay's actually connects through to Kates on the other side of the building, Kates was hosting a high school reunion while we were in town. Lindsay's is keeping it real, this is a cash bar, ATM available onsite, pool tables, live music featured, drink prices are affordable, and the service is prompt and friendly. Special note, pickle shots are available ;) as long as you don't get too fancy with your drink orders you will do just fine. If you want to stop in for a cold one, engage in some friendly exchange, and/or, catch up on local gossip, here is your best bet.

The original bar looks as it has for as long as I can remember with the old booths lining the wall opposite the bar and a full length bar lined with stools. Despite it's appearance that hasn't changed in years, it still manages to feel clean, bright and inviting. It is connected to Old Boys Pizza by a game room with two pool tables, shuffleboard and a juke box. They have live entertainment as well as a DJ on certain nights. They have a few domestics on Tap but mostly bottles with very reasonable prices. The staff is always very friendly and treat everyone like a regular. If you're in the area it is a must visit.

OMG! I just happened to visit the Wooden Duck for my first time, during Blackburn Colleges…read moreHomecoming. The restaurant was packed and the staff hustled to provide good service. Lucky for me, I was able to get a seat at the bar. My adult beverage was a draft Flight by Yuengling. For lunch, I went with a Pork Tenderloin Sandwich with a side of Fries. The tenderloin was crisp and had good flavor. However, it had a perfect shape, so I could tell it came from a bag and was not done in house. I enjoyed the thin crisp fries. A roll of Paper Towels served as your napkin. Typically I prefer linen, but for a dive bar, paper towels do the trick. I also liked that the Wooden Duck has hooks under the bar. Hooks provide a safe place for purses and jackets. I got a giggle when I used the mens room and the owner showed his political views by having a caricature of the governor in the urinal. They even had a witty disclaimer, so you shouldn't be offended. I got a second giggle when I looked around the bar and realized, about 60% of the guest were an alternative lifestyle. So everyone is welcome at the Wooden Duck.

How did I get here. We retired to a small town that doesn't have a DMV office. So of course although my wife had done extensive research on all the documentation we would need to pay a state to drive our car...we had missed one. So we went to the Wood Duck for lunch while we waited for our credit union to send us a lien release form. We had talked to the kind soul at the DMV and she was "all-in" on this place. She was so right. It is an intimate space, with a small bar out front, and then a few more tables in a back area. We took a booth right in front of the kitchen. It is a very "locals" place. There were some police having lunch (likely the entire force, at least by weight)...and one of them stared me down as if he had never seen a veteran, former DoD executive, in a collared shirt, and khakis in a public restaurant before. [Yes I was the only pepper in the salt]. The actual restaurant staff was excellent, and welcoming. Our server was a whirlwind of effecient hospitality. I got a pork tenderloin sandwich (and later the same day was invited to join a pork tenderloin sandwich group on FB)... ordered the fries, not clear if that came with them, didn't keep the reciept. My wife got a cheesburger that she was very happy with. My tenderloin was crispy, juicy and a bit too salty in a good way. This place is a definite keeper on the list of places we will be willing to travel to over time. Perhaps if I come back often enough, Barney will get used to "others" visiting his little fiefdom.

Chicken has a very thin crust and was properly cooked. not greasy at all. the mashed potatoes were our least favorite part of the meal, mostly because we didn't get enough brown gravy. truthfully, I think we shod have simply asked for more gravy, so I can't place any fault on the kitchen. Pickled beets were what I love, sliced and not sweet. the coleslaw was chopped and had a mild vinegar dressing, yum. we were the clean plate.club.. Service was prompt, they checked on us, all was good. we had big appetites satisfied pleasantly with a decent tip for $19. I really appreciated the healthier options available, along with the clean, nice atmosphere and really good service. We'll be back.

I ordered the breakfast special, came with toast, I asked to sub a biscuit, the server told me it would be extra. I thought fine a small upcharge. The biscuit on the menu is a,dollar. Time to pay, I go to the register which is way at the back of the place. There is a sign saying cash or check only. . Here's the thing, my bill was 9 dollars, the upcharge for my biscuit instead of bread that came with the meal was the menu price of a dollar. Feeling like 25 cent upcharge would have been fair since I didn't get toast. Pretty expensive for two eggs, hashbrowns, piece of sausage, biscuit and coffee. I did not have enough cash on me, had to go to the atm next door. Wasn't my bank, of course, so in order to pay cash I had to pay an extra 3 bucks to get cash. So back to the diner. 9 bucks for breakfast, 3.00 it cost me at the atm to get cash, 2 dollar tip. So 14 bucks for breakfast. Seriously? I mentioned to my server that the menu should state it's a cash or check only joint. Was told, there's a sign on the door and she walked off. There is indeed as I saw when I left, faded, scratched, small and not at eye level so someone who had never been there before would notice it, I was more concerned about trying not to slip on ice coming in the door. Kinda aggravating.
