He tried to run his card; however, it wouldn't read in the ATM. I tried to go next door to the gas station to buy something cheap so I could get ten dollars cash back to settle the dispute. I was unable to use the ATM because I had less than twenty dollars in my checking account and my paycheck was not due to be in until around 3 a.m. I was blocked by a frequent patron of the tavern who posed as staff and illegally held me against my will in the bar. The bartender condoned the patron activity instead of dismissing her and was telling me that she was going to call the "cops" on my friend Brian and myself. I told her that I would rather appreciate her calling the police because I was unlawfully being held against my will. The bartender became even more irate when I informed her that I was planning to inform the local paper of her establishments conduct and she began to curse at me. I was finally able to escape out the back of the tavern when the other participant in the pool game paid the tab. Needless to say I will NEVER step foot in that establishment and recommend other not to financially support John's Tavern by any means. There is a much better bar and grill down the road called Oasis and they actually treat their customers with respect.

Lindsay's actually connects through to Kates on the other side of the building, Kates was hosting a high school reunion while we were in town. Lindsay's is keeping it real, this is a cash bar, ATM available onsite, pool tables, live music featured, drink prices are affordable, and the service is prompt and friendly. Special note, pickle shots are available ;) as long as you don't get too fancy with your drink orders you will do just fine. If you want to stop in for a cold one, engage in some friendly exchange, and/or, catch up on local gossip, here is your best bet.

The original bar looks as it has for as long as I can remember with the old booths lining the wall opposite the bar and a full length bar lined with stools. Despite it's appearance that hasn't changed in years, it still manages to feel clean, bright and inviting. It is connected to Old Boys Pizza by a game room with two pool tables, shuffleboard and a juke box. They have live entertainment as well as a DJ on certain nights. They have a few domestics on Tap but mostly bottles with very reasonable prices. The staff is always very friendly and treat everyone like a regular. If you're in the area it is a must visit.

We shared appetizers and enjoyed the music. The waitstaff and barstaff were extremely friendly, as were the other patrons. Spouse and I stopped in one night for the first time after we finished a murder mystery event…read morethinking we could get some late night bar food and a drink or two. We got seated at a tiny table right by the door which was very drafty. After getting menus, we were told they could only make us pizza (pepperoni or cheese) and maybe 1 or 2 types of finger foods. It was somewhere between 9-9:30pm so it seemed early in our opinion for the kitchen to be closed already on a Friday night, but nothing we could do to change it. If I recall the appetizer options were mozzarella sticks or toasted ravioli, but not 100% certain on that part cause it didn't appeal to us. We ordered the cheese pizza since I don't eat pork products. It was very thin with a cardboard like crust that was overly cooked on the edges (see pic with brunt crust), but the middle part was full of gooey cheese. The balance on the pizza was just off since it was overcooked on outer edges. We were starving and our options were slim so we ate it anyways. Lol The waitress offered us some complimentary popcorn from a machine in the back of the bar and then went over the speciality drink menu they had which was probably the best part of our entire experience. They do have some very eccentric libations to choose from. I chose the lavender martini (very tasty) and my spouse got a blackberry old fashioned which he also loved. The ambiance is just okay if singing karaoke completely off key with country folks is your thing. They do have some televisions for sports viewing, but this is not what I would call a "speak easy" or a sports bar. We love doing karaoke, but the vibe at this place just wasn't working for us. Overall, I would say the drink menu is what's keeping this place afloat unless people don't care about the food they eat or the company they surround themselves with. Would try again, but with a larger group of people ready to take over the karaoke scene in full force and during earlier hours so we can attempt to get some bar food too other than pizza. Also, we were coming from the murder mystery event so we were dressed up more than anyone else in the place and we felt like outsiders. This is definitely a Jean and T-shirt kind of establishment.

George's has never disappointed me. I'll go out on a limb and say, it is probably the best pub food…read moreI have ever hand and I've eaten in a lot of them. I've enjoyed burgers, chicken wings, pork tenderloin and steak sandwiches. Plus, a variety of their steaks, Meatloaf and most recently, their fried chicken. Not to mention the variety of craft beers and the masterfully made, Mules. They get bonus points for serving the mules in copper mugs. My recent visit was for the Fried Chicken. I had plans to go on Friday for one of their Lenten Specials, but when I saw on Facebook that the Thursday special was Fried Chicken, I changed my mind and I am glad I did. The chicken was super crispy and full of flavor. The four pieces were good sized and the meat was tender and juicy. It came with two sides, the promo suggested, mashed potatoes with milk gravy and French style green beans. If you want to, they allow you to choose other sides off the menu. I don't know why somebody would want to, the sides they recommended makes for a Sunday Dinner feeling. The service is always great. All of the staff are friendly and the owner goes around talking to all his guest. I typically sit at the bar and I like that they have outlets and hooks under the bar. Outlets come in handy when you need a quick charge and the hooks for purses or a jacket. They offer live music of Friday and Saturday and the huge patio is dog friendly. I know everyone needs a day off, but I do wish they were open on Sundays. If they were, I'd probably would eat there more often. When: March 5, 2026 Why: Checking out their Chicken Dinner.

Lucky for me, I was able to get a seat at the bar. My adult beverage was a draft Flight by Yuengling. For lunch, I went with a Pork Tenderloin Sandwich with a side of Fries. The tenderloin was crisp and had good flavor. However, it had a perfect shape, so I could tell it came from a bag and was not done in house. I enjoyed the thin crisp fries. A roll of Paper Towels served as your napkin. Typically I prefer linen, but for a dive bar, paper towels do the trick. I also liked that the Wooden Duck has hooks under the bar. Hooks provide a safe place for purses and jackets. I got a giggle when I used the mens room and the owner showed his political views by having a caricature of the governor in the urinal. They even had a witty disclaimer, so you shouldn't be offended. I got a second giggle when I looked around the bar and realized, about 60% of the guest were an alternative lifestyle. So everyone is welcome at the Wooden Duck.

So of course although my wife had done extensive research on all the documentation we would need to pay a state to drive our car...we had missed one. So we went to the Wood Duck for lunch while we waited for our credit union to send us a lien release form. We had talked to the kind soul at the DMV and she was "all-in" on this place. She was so right. It is an intimate space, with a small bar out front, and then a few more tables in a back area. We took a booth right in front of the kitchen. It is a very "locals" place. There were some police having lunch (likely the entire force, at least by weight)...and one of them stared me down as if he had never seen a veteran, former DoD executive, in a collared shirt, and khakis in a public restaurant before. [Yes I was the only pepper in the salt]. The actual restaurant staff was excellent, and welcoming. Our server was a whirlwind of effecient hospitality. I got a pork tenderloin sandwich (and later the same day was invited to join a pork tenderloin sandwich group on FB)... ordered the fries, not clear if that came with them, didn't keep the reciept. My wife got a cheesburger that she was very happy with. My tenderloin was crispy, juicy and a bit too salty in a good way. This place is a definite keeper on the list of places we will be willing to travel to over time. Perhaps if I come back often enough, Barney will get used to "others" visiting his little fiefdom.
