Tonight was our experience at 386 and it did not disappoint. The comments about price are completely off-base... It's not expensive at all for a top-notch dining experience & that's just what this restaurant offers. I will agree that the façade is certainly deceiving (OK it looks a little divey from the outside) however the interior is cozy and inviting. I can understand some of the reviews regarding service - but I don't have any complaints that would possibly affect my overall 5 star rating. As you know from my other reviews, my wife and I travel a great deal and I spend time in New York, and Chicago with clients & this restaurant ranks up there with any top restaurant I've been to. I've had lasagna, fish, and fillet at 386 and everything has been fantastic! I'm looking forward to going again soon! read more

A gem just south of the typical fare around St. Augustine. I ordered shrimp and grits and my wife ate it instead of me it was so good. She said it was the best she has ever had anywhere. Crab cakes were excellent too. My wife had the Ani tuna which was just perfect. There was plenty left but it was so good we didn't to want reheat a meal so good as this. We had reservations for 5pm on my birthday, February 22nd. I purchased one of those deals buy $35 for $70 worth of food months ago, so I could not wait to try this place for the first time! To summarize, my friend ordered medium done rib eye, it kept coming back very rare. It took 4 times to get it right. In the meantime, our food got cold waiting for her dish. Something was wrong with our waitress, kathy? She may have been sick and took a lot of cold medicine, sniffling and messing everything up. She asks for our drinks. A friend wanted something non alcoholic mixed up. Waitress said she could mix beer and wine in a wine glass. Friend says no thanks, I will have iced tea. Waitress runs off to get iced tea without asking what drinks we wanted. Friend is brought iced tea, then our drink order was taken. Time to order food. I gave waitress the coupon. Food came but it took the cook 4 times to get the rib eye medium done, our food got cold while we waited to finish dinner with our friend who ordered the rib eye. My Filet Mignon was delicious but COLD. Asked for a second beer, waitress forgot. I never did get it. When we got the bill, the prepaid coupon discount was not included! The waitress said she couldn't find the coupon that I gave her, so she wanted to charge us the full amount anyway? Waitress finally corrected the bill, we paid and then it took her forever to find change. The waitress was "off" for sure. Maybe sick on medication? The cook was off on getting the rib eye cooked right the 1st, 2nd or 3rd time. read more

386 was recommended by a local from the area and it was amazing. When we walked in the door, we were greeted by Frank the owner. I felt like family and was seated by Frank who made the experience unforgettable. We ordered the calamari and artichokes from a long list of delicious sounding appetizers. Probably the best calamari I've ever had. We're from northern Virginia and have access to some great restaurants, none come close for all around experience! The list of specials made it difficult to decide. I settled on the grouper, others at my table tried the braised short ribs and sole. Everything came out amazing, I tried a little of everyone's dish. The food was terrific! I would like to give this restaurant more stars but I felt the atmosphere left something to be desired. A burned out bulb, spotty wine glasses, a bar that just served beer and looked like a VFW bar and out of place for an establishment which calls itself fine dining. We finally made it to 386 and based on the reviews were underwhelmed. What turned us off the most was the interior - not on par with the food prices. The air conditioning was so poor they had some of the back windows open! Dingy curtains and basically in need of some sprucing up. Yes we know this is FL where everything is more low key but... next time I'll wear a t-shirt not a golf shirt. The staff provide above average service, even on the busiest of nights. Reservations aren't required, but I would recommend them. We had the BEST dinner at 386 last night. We ordered the spinach artichoke dip, steak tartare and the clam. WOW. The steak tartare was my favorite but only because the clams were shared between 8 and gone in seconds! All the food was awesome. I had the grouper special but my sons pork chop was insane and my husbands sirloin special was to die for. Also enjoyed was the tuna, the kids fish and chips, the lamp chop special and the filet salad. Incredible! We enjoyed dessert and a bottle of red and a bottle of white. Service was spot on - knowledgable, kind and interesting. We never felt like they were getting ready to call it a night- which they were since we got there late. Such a lovely experience and it even involved bread to start- a welcome change to the saltine crackers! read more

What an incredible restaurant! I went on a Saturday night with 3 others (plus a baby). We were so blown away by the menu that we over ordered, but managed to eat every bite! The appetizers were sensational, the wine list was very nice (and reasonable compared to other restaurants), and the food was outstanding. However, we were even more impressed with the staff. The owner came around several times to check on each table. You could tell that the staff really cared about what we thought of each plate and they even offered to make us baby food!!! Food was ok but didn't offer anything unique. Fairly generic entrees prepared well. Food presentation was nice but dishes were scratched and chipped; not what I expected for a higher end restaurant. Bar did not offer cocktails; only beer and wine which was surprising considering it filled half the restaurant. Ambience was terrible. Tables too close together so server was bumping tables and dropped a fork on me while removing dishes. Prices too high for what you get. read more

The food was really tasty but very pricey. We enjoyed a couple of appetizers- the Brie was amazing. Three of our entrees were very good but the fourth one was too heavily salted to enjoy. The chocolate lava dessert was under cooked. Our waiter was not attentive, my husband requested a diet soda twice and never got one. The restaurant could use a redecoration- paint is scratched chipped and my seat was torn, and it was very warm inside. For the cost of the meal they should be able to spruce it up a little and turn down the thermostat. Dinner for four was just over $200 dollars with the tip. read more

A wonderful dining experience. The staff was attentive and accommodating to our needs as customers. Numerous specials to choose from as well as the menu items. The beet salad was delicious ,the Sea bass with Parmesan risotto and wilted spinach topped with goat cheese was perfect and filet with sautéed spinach and green beans was outstanding. The entire experience reminded us of a hidden treasure in NYC. If you are bothered by close quarters or a slightly loud environment this might be an issue for you but the food and service will be well worth it. Party of four with 7PM reservation. Friendly staff but slow, especially presenting food. There were three (3) "specials" one of which they were out of at 7 PM. The steak that was selected as a replacement "they have been out of for days." The mahi-mahi was not even average - maybe old, maybe over cooked. The cioppino had clam that was all mud and several mussels I didn't eat because they were not open. Flavor was good if a tad spicier than I prefer. Poor wine list, only one choice of most varieties by the glass. Area really needs a top notch resturant, this one misses on the small stuff but the the prices are top notch. read more

First time eating here. The restaurant is a little run down as our table top was glass with black duct tape covering a piece that broke off. We had shrimp and grits appetizer that was amazing so we hoped that despite the appearance our meals would be worth it. I ordered the 28 ounce tomahawk rib eye with spinach. The spinach was great but my steak was well done and I had ordered medium rare. The outside 1 1/2 edges were charcoal and Inedible so I was eating the middle which was just well done. The server noticed it and commented on my steak being over cooked and asked if I wanted to send it back. I told him that I didnt want to send it back and that I would do my best to eat it. When I got the bill and noticed the steak was 60 dollars I told my waiter I didnt mind paying 60 for a steak but not one that was that overcooked. He said he would talk to the owner and returned saying the owner took the kids two 7 dollar meals off the tab. This combined with the ten minutes and four times asking staff for a salt shaker that had salt in it left me with a bad taste and I will not be back. read more

Stop do not eat at this restaurant. it's not worth the money and it's quality and experience is certainly not fine dining. For example, a five dollar salad with your $30 entrée was a bowl of lettuce and two slices of tomato. Even the salad dressing was boring. It came with their "bread" which was like a piece of Melba toast with lots of garlic on it. Not very tasty, very crunchy and shameful. Due to the virus we asked to be outside which had no atmosphere and lots of flies no music with lots of cars going by. They finally gave us a vitriol's candle which didn't help much. There was no thoughtfulness other than the tablecloth. The crab fish encrusted grouper entrée was tasty but the roasted carrots were an embarrassment. The lobster pasta with spinach dish seem to have come out of a can. Two or three pieces of lobster plus rubbery meat from the claw with three tiny pieces of spinach. Another absurd example of fine dining. The waitress was attentive but unfortunately couldn't warn us enough. She appeared to be embarrassed with serving our dinners to our table. We did not speak up with disappointment as we truly did not want to ruin the entire evening. Thank goodness the wine and beer were ok. So whatever you do, do not eat here. Get in your car and spend your $100 in a restaurant that pays attention to the details for a suitable experience. read more

Quite possibly the worst restaurant that I have ever tried. Let's look at the various attributes of restaurants starting with the most important: 1. Food - We ordered prime rib - absolutely no flavor and somewhat tough. My wife's portion was small and full of fat. Yes, I know that meat needs to be marbled, but there is a big difference between marbling and full of fat. My vegetable were under cooked, corn, peas and carrots. They used baby carrots out of a bag and cooked them with the peas and corn for the same amount of time, Gee, carrots won't be done - plain stupid. I had fries with my rib - oil must have been used for at least two weeks and not changed - they were rancid. 2. Atmosphere - This place is an old Florida shack that has not been upgraded much. Floor actually sloped. They have packed too many tables in a small space, so much that they did not put out salt and pepper on any table because it would have made the table too crowded. You are really close to you eating neighbor. Fine if you don't mind all of nearby tables hearing your conversation. 3. Service - Service should be good at any restaurant regardless of price, but the expensive restaurants like 386 should have excellent service. We had to wait many minutes each time we asked for something - salt and pepper, butter for the bread, au jus for the rib, etc. By the way, don't you think that the examples I just gave should have been standard? Also, wait staff was not dressed the same. We had eaten at Steak and Shake a couple of days before and their staff was dressed the same - at 386 for 8 times the price of Steak and Shake the staff could wear what they pleased. Price - $80 at 386 versus better food service and atmosphere and Steak and Shake for $8.00. I wonder??? read more

We stumbled upon this amazing restaurant. The service, Antonette, was fantastic. We started with the mussels appetizer and it exceeded our expectations, cooked in a garlic butter sauce with a hint of lemon was so good we dipped our bread in it. The New England Clam chowder was so loaded with clams you couldn't take a bit without tasting them. The Hog Fish special was one of the best cooked fish we ever had, seasoned slightly but with the garlic butter sauce and over a bed of pasta this was fantastic.
