350 Grace is a contemporary southern style restaurant that first opened in September of 2019. It took over the space previously occupied by Pasha Mezze, a Turkish restaurant that closed in January of that year. It is tucked away in a hideaway location along the 22nd Street side of the Palace Shops & Station in Ghent. Their parking space is currently shared with Just Cupcakes next door and the Mermaid Winery a few steps away. It was opened under the ownership of Willie Moats and his wife, Michelle. Chef Moats has a prolific culinary resume in Hampton Roads, dating back to the 1980s when he worked with Todd Jurich. His previous stint as a chef was at Byrd & Baldwin Brothers Steakhouse in downtown Norfolk. 350 Grace is the first restaurant he has opened on his own. Their menu is gluten free, which was inspired by his Michelle's gluten intolerance. Their menu is a tribute to traditional southern cuisine with the addition of some modern and innovative touches. Their dishes sparkle with beautiful presentations. The interior of their restaurant exudes a casually elegant ambience with a relaxed and inviting feel. I've felt totally at ease here with each of my visits. They have an open kitchen, where you can watch Chef Moats in action. A fully stocked bar is available, and a private dining area in the rear seats around 24 people. Reservations are recommended. I tried to visit as a walk-in one evening, only to be told that they were all booked up with prior reservations. I made a reservation from that point forward. I have visited three times this year--once in April and twice in June. Their menu, which changes weekly, was presented on a single sheet of paper each time with a few selections from their online menu and some new ones as well. Not every dish on their online menu is available every evening. I have ordered and enjoyed the following: CRISPY NORTH ATLANTIC SALMON: With Sweet Corn, Sundried Tomatoes, Roasted Tomatoes, Charred Spinach, and White Truffle Oil Compound Butter. This was one of the most outstanding salmon dishes I have ever ordered. The encrusted exterior delivered a nice crisp, and the salmon was cooked as requested to a medium rare temperature with a beautiful pink interior hue and to a delicious result. The flavors and textures of the sweet corn, tomatoes, spinach, and compound butter all contributed to form an even more exquisite taste experience. My Rating: 5-Plus Stars. GRILLED WHOLE MARINATED RED SNAPPER: With Cucumber Salad, Dry Roasted Baby Potatoes, and Sweet Pea Vinaigrette. I love a good whole fish dish, and this was a good one. I had been craving one for a long time. I always enjoy the extra layers of flavor that come with the skin, bones, and head. The snapper was filled with an abundance of deliciously tender and flaky fish meat that I savored slowly as I patiently picked away the bones. The dry roasted potatoes were tender and divine. The sweet pea vinaigrette was delicious and exhibited a beautiful green tone, which I did not see until I reached the bottom of the fish. If I could tweak the presentation a bit, I would have shown some of the vinaigrette oozing out from under the fish and onto the plate for greater eye appeal. There were a few spots on the fish that were a bit over charred for my tastes. Otherwise, this whole fish dish succeeded in satisfying my cravings. I got my fix and was very satisfied. My Rating: 4 Stars. PUREE OF SWEET YELLOW CORN SOUP: With Backfin Crab Meat and Charred Mustard Greens. This one was listed as one of their Appetizers for the evening. I was in the mood for some soup, and this one hit the spot nicely. The yellow corn puree delivered a remarkable depth of flavor and texture. The crab meat and mustard greens were tasty and attractive touches. It could have been just a tad warmer temperature wise. Otherwise, the soup was delicious and very satisfying: My Rating: 4.5 Stars. CAJUN STRIPED BASS; With Sweet Potato Grits, Charred Spinach, Corn Butter Sauce, and Stewed Tomatoes. It had been years since I enjoyed a striped bass dish, and this one was excellent. The filet was expertly cooked with tender and delicious bites of skin and fish meat intact. The supporting ingredients formed a colorful presentation and a wonderful taste experience. The sweet potato grits were fantastic. My Rating: 5 Stars. Complimentary miniature desserts are currently being served after each meal. Their Avocado Chocolate Mousse and Bread Pudding were both outstanding. My Rating: 5 Stars. The service I received during each of my visits was warm, friendly, and attentive. My servers were constantly checking up on me and keeping my water glass full. In planning for future visits, I am looking forward to trying their Aunt Becky's Meatloaf Meatballs, Grilled Organic Pork Loin, and their Carolina Shrimp and Roasted Red Grits. This is our second visit to Grace and it was just as memorable as the first. From the moment you walk in you are welcomed like family. The place is warm and inviting with brick walls and an open kitchen. Although we brought an additional guest with us they didn't make a big deal about it and sat us promptly. The menu is small but everything is executed perfectly. I had the pork loin with sweet potato mash and a deliciously spicy sauce. My husband had the strip steak with a mushroom bread pudding. It was cooked a perfect medium rare and he ate every bite. Although there isn't a dessert menu, they end your dinner with a complementary mini dessert! Small dining room, Black owned business, friendly Hostess, In house mixologist making excellent drinks, the table service was fantastic, I never had to ask for more to drink and he gave a recommendation on what to eat that was rock solid. The atmosphere is causal trendy; the type of place you could wear jeans to or be dressed to impress and either way you'd fit in. The location is one that you wouldn't know it's there unless you know it's there; it's tucked into a small strip mall of eateries on a quiet street off the main road. It is a complete seasonal menu which to some is annoying but to individuals who notice the taste of food is directly affected by seasonality it is a welcome treat. The chef is a true artist when it comes to his sauce work. The sauce on his rack of lamb had a mirror like sheen that literally reflected the lights. The sheen was the only thing second to his complexity of flavor. It took you on a trip of sweet, sour, and tangy. Which completed the onion flavor of the perfectly cooked lamb. I literally told my husband that this is the restaurant that I need to visit when I'm having a bad month. I just want to begin by thanking the staff of 350 Grace for such an amazing experience! After a viral Tic Tok video of this restaurant we decided to try it out! It began with our waiter DeeDee (Who was also the bartender) was absolutely amazing and we thank her for her infectious energy! I was so busy enjoying my food that I got no pictures of my salmon but my fiancé took a photo of his Shrimp and Grits- ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! For our appetizers we had Crab fritters and the crawfish Mac and cheese. We put DeeDee to the test by having her create us a black raspberry Hennessy margarita and she definitely understood the assignment!!! I had just a couple of sips of my cocktail before my appetizer came. then rather quickly my entree. The rush was because the chef was alone in the kitchen. but when I am spending $150 plus, I'd like to have a leisurely meal. We were in and out in one hour flat. I wouldn't even leave a review but the last few times we were there, service was awful. We were told they were short of staff etc. I am sympathetic. A restaurant is a tough business. This visit was a return after a year or two. The poor service in the past had kept us away. again the food was fabulous but I probably won't go back any time soon sorry to say. We had reservations for 6:45 on a Saturday and the place was dead. Upon arriving we were asked to take a seat in the lobby while our table was prepared. Since we had reservations I thought this was odd but not off-putting, until we sat there for over 10 minutes. After being neglected for so long and not having much hope for the quality of service we would get with the rest of our meal, my family decided to leave before being sat. The BEST dining experience we've ever had as soon as we walked into the door. If you are looking for a fine dining experience, look no further. Dee Dee was our server and she was by far the friendliest server I have ever had. We loved her energy! Not only was she serving, she was bartending as well. The hostess informed us that our server would be busy and to please be patient, but Dee Dee was on top of it! Not only that, but another male server helped her when she was busy with someone else. He was also extremely friendly. The food was incredible. Everything was cooked perfectly. We ordered the crab fritters and NY strip steaks. Dee Dee remembered that on top of being gluten free, I'm also dairy free, so she brought out a dairy free dessert for me which was a bread pudding. Dee Dee, the other male server, and the hostess checked on us multiple times. When our food was brought out to us, I even heard the chef ask the server if we liked our steaks. You could tell that he takes pride in his work. My husband and I could not stop raving about this place on the car ride back to our rental. This experience was simply phenomenal in every way. This is by far one of my favorite restaurants in the Hampton Roads area. Completely safe for celiacs. The food is amazing for all. I have yet to have a dish that wasn't delish. I leave stuffed every time and a smile on my face knowing from the beginning to the end of the meal is safe for me. Love the cocktails too. The owners are awesome. Eric is the best waiter ever too! Ordered crawfish mac and cheese (excellent) and pureed corn/shrimp soup (unique and delicious) appetizers. Both were great. Wife ordered crab cakes while I ordered the strip. Crab cakes are apparently very popular to those in the know and we're glad to now be among the initiated. Full of lump crab with zero fillers, this crab cake is one of the best we've ever tasted. The steak however IS the best steak I've ever tasted. The cut was great and seasoned and cooked to medium rare perfection. I just finished the leftovers with some cheese eggs and it hurt to take the last bite. Also, the potato casserole was awesome with the right mix of salt and sweet. A lot of attention to detail is put into the menu items, you can tell Chef Moats takes great pride in his craftsmanship and art. The star of the dish for me was the savory bread pudding. It was super delicious with the truffle mushrooms and leek on top. We got desserts too that were really yummy, can't remember the names but one was a bread pudding w/ ice cream and one had some sort of pound cake layering with whip and fresh fruit on top. What makes this place even better is that everything is gluten free, so if you have celiac or have an issue with processing gluten, you won't have to worry about what's on the menu! Tucked away off of 22nd St. in Norfolk, 350 Grace is a sparsely, but tastefully decorated modern southern cuisine restaurant. Although I didn't opt for a traditional entree, the appetizers were very tasty and well presented. The Blue Crab Fritters, Fried Oysters, BBQ Beef Short Ribs and Crawfish Mac and Cheese were all quite delicious! I didn't have a reservation but was accommodated anyway. The service was very professional and friendly which made for an even more enjoyable dining experience.
