I'll definitely give this place another try. The service was excellent. The atmosphere was pretty good, but the abundance of hard surfaces made it unnecessarily loud when it filled up. The lemon curd in the slice was perfect but the shortcrust was slightly under done. The croissants were quite good and obviously made in house with good butter. Again just slightly under baked. The spinach and feta had green onions in the mix which I didn't appreciate but others might. I found the onions overpowering. The Basque cheesecake was delicious but again seemed a touch overbaked and fell apart when it was served. The coffee was well above average. Unfortunately, the tea was made with less than boiling water so it turned out weak and bitter. So many positive points but almost as many problems. Maybe just a bad day? If I'm back this way I'll try again.

Dry sandwiches, mediocre pastries and baked goods, not super hospitable. Coffee is great!

It's inside the Old Courthouse Inn, which is a place you should stay in Powell River. Built in 1939, it's decorated in that era, and it's fantastic in my opinion. The restaurant has a series of photographs that are black and white on the walls, and are not to be missed. The service was prompt and attentive, although to be fair there were only two tables occupied. The food is straight forward, well cooked, tasty and comes out promptly and hot. Bacon and eggs, potatoes and toast along with tea, nothing better in the AM for us. Would most definitely stay at the hotel again and enjoy their breakfast!

We decided to sit at the patio to enjoy the warm weather. There is a swing at one side which is fun for both adults and kids. Our server was fantastic! Friendly and very accommodating. Some of us were sharing dishes and he managed to get the orders right and came with extra plates and napkins etc. I shared an eggs Ben (Figgy Linda) and small pancakes (Chase's cakes) with my friend. It was the perfect portion to try the egg Benny and pancakes. The food was very yummy and well executed with fluffy soft pancakes and runny yolk for the eggs. If you like history, go inside and explore. There's even a resident ghost playing the piano every hour. Unfortunately I didn't get to hear it.

Manager claimed that he put them in there himself. To what end? I ask you! -The evening is the best time to visit because you get ignored by most of the day staff. -And the reason why I am writing this review in the first place is because of what happened to me more recently: I wanted to use a coupon on the app and it wouldn't read on the kiosk so I waited for someone to notice me at the counter. The woman who came to help me was friendly but needed a manager to help with my issue. I watched her talk to the manager who was packaging up an order, the manager nodded and went to fill a coffee for a customer then turned her back to me and went on with packaging orders. I waited a few more minutes, no one came back to me so I walked out. I have written to head office via the web page and got a reply within two days saying they would be contacting the franchisee about it. I am writing this review in the hopes that management might see it and have a little pow wow with their staff on customer service because I know there are a lot of people in this small town who feel the restaurant is under-performing.

My father in law who knows a lot about wood was admiring that the cabin is made of cedar, the highest quality wood, and it was unfinished, as it is the most naturally weatherproof wood (though not perfect). There is seating all around the deck and then out back there are picnic tables and logs amongst the trails. And that's where the magic of it all stops. There are wasps everywhere. In the pastry cabinet, where people are sitting, dead in the windowsills, it's swarming with them and they are not deterred by a light swat away. They're as hungry as you are arriving. I got a golden latte and there was so much dry cinnamon or nutmeg on top my mouth dried out like the Saharan desert! It tasted awful but you know who loved it? The wasps. I ordered two of them with my wife adjacent to me and only one came out. So I kindly approached the staff about the missing beverage and they were forcefully adamant that I only ordered one. Why would I only order one beverage for two grown adults? How hard is it to say "oops we made a mistake/misunderstood?" So they made me go back to the register and pay for another drink which is just poor customer service and ultimately just a dumb decision when I didn't make the mistake in the first place. It's a self service place and I regret leaving a tip at all.
