This review is for the inn, which is above the grocery store…read more The set-up was confusing at first because checking in for lodging (I'd made a last minute reservation via Expedia) is done at the grocery store cash register. There were no problems with the check in, but I was initially perplexed by the lack of a traditional inn office. I was given my keys by a nice young woman at the cash register, and told how to access the room. The lodging was good. Very modern and very clean. More like a nice apartment than a hotel or inn. Large and spacious; provides room for individual privacy if traveling with others. Nice kitchen with all needed pans, dishes, utensils and appliances. Very attractive kitchen cupboards and set up. Kitchen island makes food preparation easy. Our unit had two bathrooms and two bedrooms in a separate room with a closeable door. Washer and dryer and detergent. Balcony. No reading lights in the bedrooms or common areas, like the living room; only overhead lights throughout. Bring an itty-bitty book light, if you plan on doing any reading. Not enough furniture to lounge in (just one small couch and no comfy chairs). No chairs in the bedrooms. The store downstairs is very good and ridiculously convenient. Ample off-street parking for both the inn and the market. The inn is on Highway 101, which is good for the store below, but is not a particularly charming setting. The sound of passing vehicles is loud, occasionally very loud when souped up pick-ups are going up the hill. Speaking of noise, our neighbors were having a holiday party and we had no idea because the walls are so well insulated. Very nice, that.

It's inside the Old Courthouse Inn, which is a place you should stay in Powell River. Built in 1939, it's decorated in that era, and it's fantastic in my opinion. The restaurant has a series of photographs that are black and white on the walls, and are not to be missed. The service was prompt and attentive, although to be fair there were only two tables occupied. The food is straight forward, well cooked, tasty and comes out promptly and hot. Bacon and eggs, potatoes and toast along with tea, nothing better in the AM for us. Would most definitely stay at the hotel again and enjoy their breakfast!

We decided to sit at the patio to enjoy the warm weather. There is a swing at one side which is fun for both adults and kids. Our server was fantastic! Friendly and very accommodating. Some of us were sharing dishes and he managed to get the orders right and came with extra plates and napkins etc. I shared an eggs Ben (Figgy Linda) and small pancakes (Chase's cakes) with my friend. It was the perfect portion to try the egg Benny and pancakes. The food was very yummy and well executed with fluffy soft pancakes and runny yolk for the eggs. If you like history, go inside and explore. There's even a resident ghost playing the piano every hour. Unfortunately I didn't get to hear it.

My friend had the Spring rolls and Wonton soup, all made in house and was amazing! My other friend had the Eggs Benedict with hand cubed hash browns, or you can have shredded. I had the 6oz housemade hamburger with onion rings. The relish on it was very good. The menu has lots to choose from and the have daily menu specials. One thing I noticed is they do half orders which is great especially considering the size of the meals a half order would be a big meal from some people. Highly recommend Julie's. You won't be disappointed and you definitely won't leave hungry!

We had breakfast here about 11:30 on a Monday and were surprised when asked if we had reservations as it's a very casual diner style restaurant. It did get busy so keep that in mind and maybe call ahead. Great atmosphere with model planes hanging from the ceiling, and delicious coffee. My breakfast was decent but not spectacular (bacon, eggs, hash and French Toast). They do shredded hash browns here which is nice but they were a little undercooked and a little on the small size portion wise. My sister's omelette was bland and overcooked. That being said I'd go back for the cool decor and maybe try lunch next time. I called a couple of days before to enquire about their hours and that person was super friendly but the staff weren't the friendliest when we actually ate there. Not rude, just not very warm or welcoming (maybe because we didn't have reservations!).
