Dinner service review. Last night's Valentines dinner was our third time enjoying the evening service at 303. I have to say I have been consistently impressed by all four phases of the local eatery, Price, Ambiance, Service, and Food quality have been very good on all of our trips there. It has easily topped my Favorites list. My filet last night had plenty of flavor and was cooked perfectly, while my wife raved about her rib-eye. The meal started with some excellent crab cakes, followed by a very good Greek salad on my part. The tiramisu to wrap things up was as good as I've ever had. Another good thing about 303 is their beer on tap. The Magic Hat is excellent, the Fire Ant is very good and after speaking with the owner they will hopefully add Lucky Town's Pub Ale which is locally brewed and excellent as well. The service is extremely poor. I have given this place so many chances because I want local establishments to thrive, but when time and time again, the service is painstakingly slow, you succumb to the fact that you just won't eat here anymore. read more

It's pricey, but I love this place. Downtown Clinton is turning into a cool little family friendly spot. They have great food and friendly staff. The In house fried pork rinds (they are still sizzling when they come out) and pimiento cheese dip is off the hook. I was doubtful as I'm not a pimento cheese guy, but what a combination. You are also walking distance from a popsicle place and a cups if you want something else to do afterwards. Also lots of cool local stores right there. read more

I visited this establishment for dinner on Saturday night since we were looking for a special occasion dinner. The service was good, but the food was mediocre. The steak was indeed the best thing we tried. The shrimp was definitely not flown-in fresh, and the ribeye sandwich was too greasy for our tastes. I would say that this could be an enjoyable dinner if the price point were lower. As it stood, I felt it was way overpriced for the food we received. read more

Went here for lunch on a Thursday afternoon (arrived right at 11:00 when they open). It was okay. Nothing spectacular. I had the brisket burger with cheese on a jalapeño cheddar bun/bread with sweet potato fries. The taste of the burger was fine. It tasted like a cheeseburger. Eating it though was not an easy task. The burger just fell apart, both the burger itself and the jalapeño cheddar bun. I ended up eating it with a fork. That is not a successful burger in my opinion. I was expecting more flavor from the jalapeño cheddar bun, but really tasted nothing. The sweet potato fries were the saving grace. They were good fries. All in all...MEH. read more

My husband & I are here for lunch a couple of weeks ago and I can't wait to go back. We had the lunch special which was fried fish with three sides. I had tomatoes & okra, yams, and cabbage which were all excellent. My husband chose mashed potatoes, coleslaw, & Lima beans. The coleslaw was the best I've ever had! The fish was really good too. We shared a blueberry cobbler with ice cream for dessert which I'm still thinking about & cant wait to try again. Our waiter was great. This was definitely a great experience. read more

I feel this restaurant has potential if they can get their act together, especially the kitchen staff. There seems to be little communication between the kitchen staff and the waiters. I felt a bit sorry for our waiter having to spend so much of his time making rounds to the tables to inform customers that they were out if things that they had ordered...however, I do not feel that excuses his behavior. He had the bad habit of making a comment or asking a question and then immediately turning away without giving us a chance to respond. I believe they opened for lunch at 11am. We arrived about 11:50. First alarm was when the hostess showed up to greet us after we had stood there a while wondering if we were just supposed to seat ourselves. She appeared friendly but very frazzled. After we answered her question that we were a party of 4 adults and 2 small kids, party of 6 total, she clearly was in a state of panic but continually apologetic. She stated that she had just had 5 parties of 5 and was out of large tables but could seat us outside. With 2 very elderly adults I let her know we would prefer to eat inside where is was cool but it was ok to split us up at 2 tables. She looked horrified and just didn't seem to grasp that we were saying she could divide us up to 2 tables. After much frustrated explaining with her appearing about to go into a full panic attack, I could see the light bulb go off in her head. After additional consulting with others, she picked out our tables. Things were looking up when our waiter showed up to take our drink order within about 1 minute. We wanted to put in an appetizer order at the same time but as soon as we got him to understand what drinks we wanted, he turned his back and left. After about a 20 minute wait, another person showed up with our drinks. I asked him if there was anyone available to take our food order, explaining to him that there were others in our party who had already received their food and would end up having to wait on us after they finished eating. He said he couldn't take it but would say something to our server. I later found out he was the server for our other table. We continued to wait a long time. Finally our server appeared and took our order. They were already out of the pork chops we wanted so we changed our orders. Much later he reappeared to inform us that they were out of the candied yams thst my wife and I had ordered. One of the 2 pieces of my wife's turkey was dry as leather as was 1 of the 2 pieces of my ham. The peas were a little undercooked and appeared to have little or no seasoning. The jalapeño cornbread was moist and tasted good but I could not detect any jalapeño in it, only diced sweet peppers and whole kernel corn in it. Neither of us cared for the candied carrots. The mashed potatoes and gravy were good but lacking in flavor for my personal taste. The other part of our party with their different server were finished eating before we received our food. It took over an hour for us to receive our food. Our other party had a much better experience. They received the pork chops before they sold out. I walked over and saw them and they looked extremely moist and was told they were delicious. Our appetizer of fried cheese curds served with honey mustard was the one nice experience we had there. They were yummy. I do not recommend this place but hopefully they will improve with time If you do decide to give them a try, arrive at opening time and order the cheese curds and pork chops. read more

We eat at 303 frequently. The first few times it was really great. Fried chicken on Thursday is really good. Don't have the beef tips....it's supposed to be smoked but they tasted like liquid smoke. We visited for dinner one time and I can't say we were impressed. Lunch is much better and way more reasonably priced. read more

303 is a regular hang out for me and my husband. We've had private parties here, hung out on the porch to watch football games, have lunch here often and regularly meet up with friends for dinner. 303 is a great combination of high end food and a casual ambiance. The lunch specials are always great. Good blue plate specials plus sandwiches and salads. The menu at night has great steaks and seafood. Last night my husband had the pork shank over cheese grits, a special not on the menu. It was so tender I thought I was eating osso buco. I tried something that was also an off the menu special - curried shrimp. It was served in a halved acorn squash over rice. The shrimp was combined with water chestnuts and other veggies in a coconut milk sauce. The combination of the shrimp,squash, sauce and rice was out of this world. The steaks at 303 are consistently good and my favorite dish is the fresh fried shrimp. Start your meal off with the pork skins, freshly made and an unusual but tasty appetizer. Staying in town for one day for business. When searching for a restaurant for dinner, there aren't many non-fast food choices. I read a review about this place and decided to give it a try. Could not have been happier! Their sweat tea is EXCELLENT - likely the best I've ever had. I had Filet for dinner. While not cooked as I'd requested (it was more on the rare side), the taste was great, very tender, and the undercooking wasn't an issue for me. Sides were mashed potatoes - also done well - and zucchini (was VERY good). Dessert was blueberry white chocolate cheesecake, also very good. Calm, unassuming, local atmosphere, and it was made even better by a musician playing a guitar and singing too. I will absolutely, definitely be back here next time I'm in town. I have never left a review of anywhere, but felt the need to do so after tonight: Wow, I had such high expectations but haf such a disappointing experience here. My steak, which was a well cut and well seasoned 10oz filet, was so poorly cooked that there were portions in the middle that were cold and un-edible. My dinner partner, who is a big spender that enjoys the finer things, asked to have the filet and the mahi as a surf and turf combo and was told no, that he could not have that. What?!? He was willing to pay whatever it cost, but the server said he could only order the two dishes independent of each other. Our server then brought our check to us while we were still eating our meal, and even checked back with us a few moments later and asked if we'd put our cards in the bills yet. Poor service. Poorly executed steak. For $87 I feel ripped off. Go to Applebee's and save your money. Atmosphere was nice. Only reason for two stars. read more

They have a very nice bar menu. We started with red wine and a fried catfish appetizer. It was a very generous portion with remoulade sauce. My husband had the grilled shrimp with a mouthwatering sweet potato and haricot verts. I ordered a greek salad with ahi tuna. Everything was delicious. Our waitress, India, was great. Preston, one of the partners came and spoke with us to be sure our experience was perfect. The ambience was nice indoors, but the outdoor patio was even better on this perfect evening. NEVER again. 7-27. Worst meal and service ever. We ordered ribeyes and side salads. Everything came out together. My ribeye was RAW. My husband's medium ribeye was extremely rare. When I said that I wanted my side salad first, I was told that the chef made it after the steaks. When we showed my husband's extremely rare steak to our server, she replied "what can I do, I'm just the server." So disappointing. We were so looking forward to coming back here. We had to leave here, after a hefty bill and going somewhere else to eat. The place seemed disorganized and really appeared to need someone to take a management role. read more

This has become one of my favorite spots for a quick lunch without having to go very far. I've come a couple different days for their plate lunches. My family had just finished moving my sister into her apartment across the street, and given the lackluster experience of our first dining venture in Clinton, I hadn't the highest of expectations. However, this place BLEW me away. The decor, the amicable staff, and the FOOD. Literally thank God we stopped in for "After Church Sunday dinner" because my taste buds have rarely savored such delectable southern cooking, even during my past 4 years spent in New Orleans. I ordered the pork plate and chose macaroni and cheese, broccoli, and yams as my sides. Each individual item was the absolute best of its kind I've ever had. The mild jalapeno cornbread that came with the plate was also quite tasty. I took a bite of my mom's burger and it too was superb, the bread made in-house! The waiter boxed up my leftovers, taking time to separate the contents with paper slips to prevent spillover. The service was so great that even my usually tough-to-please father managed a smile or two. Bottom line: Even though Clinton is a town chock full of nothing but retired folks and college kids (quite the combo), its downtown area is worth a visit just to grab a bite at this gem. read more

I had the pleasure of checking this charming restaurant out over the holidays while visiting family. The food was so tasty and the place itself was so cute. We had lunch and they not only offered a number of lunch specials, but the regular lunch menu was perfect. It was a great place located in downtown Clinton and it seems to be about the only restaurant in the downtown area. It was well worth a stop for a bite to eat. read more

How can the exact same meal cost $22 more than the evening before. I actually liked the food, so much so, that I ordered the EXACT same meal down to the drinks two nights in a row, I was somewhat surprised to pay $57 plus tip the first night, but was absolutely shocked the second night when I was presented with a bill for $79 for the same meal and drinks. Happy hour was not a factor. They actually charge $8 for the ice in your drink. A conversation with the "manager" did not resolve the issue.They clearly do not want my future business. Been here three times so far, every time I enjoy the food. The menu items are definitely priced too high, but it's so close to a college that sort of comes with the territory. Food orders will take about twenty to thirty minutes but the waitstaff is competent and will often check on you. I'll be back again I'm sure. read more

First time at 303 Jefferson, after hearing how good the food was I decided to try for myself, I was impressed with food and the experiance. The waitstaff was very friendly and the food was great. The only negatives were that it was loud(bad accustics in room) and seating on raised platform seemed awkward. I would recommend it to anyone to try though and I am going to go back soon, I hear lunch is great. read more

3 stars bc the service was great but I didn't like the food. I ordered the pimento cheese and personally hated the taste. The server was very nice to offer me something else. I got just a plain grilled chicken breast that was slightly pink. I hate to complain bc everyone was so nice, but I wasn't pleased by the food. And won't likely return. read more

We are now 'Regulars' at this quaint but busy spot in downtown Clinton. We love the atmosphere, the friendly service and the food. While we tend to order the brisket burger (our favorite) there are daily specials and appetizers that are great! The only reason for a 4 vs 5 Star is they tend to be proud of their shrimp (and consequently the price) so don't come here looking for seafood read more

I finally tried 303 during my last visit to my family, who visit regularly. I found myself marveling at the fact that I was actually enjoying a glass of great wine in a town that was, just a few years ago, completely dry (and it seemed like just yesterday that Chili's opening in Clinton was a cause for celebration). Now, at long last, Clintonians are no longer forced to drive to Jackson or Madison to enjoy a craft beer, a great wine selection and delicious inspired Southern cuisine at a locally owned restaurant. The chef is a product of New Orleans and it shows in the great food and professional service. 303 is not only a great restaurant, it also represents a very positive development for Clinton. The City of Clinton has finally turned the corner and embraced the possibilities of its downtown area. read more

Very disappointed. We went here for my cousins birthday and we couldn't put the tables together so we could sit together but we were fine with that and just sat at all the tables close to each other. It all started out alright, until we got ignored. The server took everyones orders and got to the table next to us taking their orders, we would have been the last table right after them so we sat there waiting expectantly ready to give our orders, but then she went away and didn't come back to take our order until about 10-15 minutes later when everyone else started getting their food. We didn't even receive our food until well after everyone else had gotten their checks and were ready to leave. Someone else, we assume a manager, came out to talk to the tables and see how people were doing, he got to the table next to us, talked to them, he was standing just a couple feet from me and I sat there waiting for our turn yet again but then he finished talking, looked at us waiting for him, and just walked away. The service was horrible and we will never be going there again because of it. read more

The catfish served on Fridays is absolutely amazing! Fried to perfection! I don't like the cornbread though, because it isn't sweet. The burgers go great with the sweet potato fries, so you can't go wrong with that selection. You get to choose the type of bun, as well as the toppings, which they put on the side so that you can build your own burger. I love the fact that I can walk to 303 after class and enjoy a superb meal. I am looking forward to experiencing their dinner menu in the near future! read more

Fantastic meal in downtown Clinton. The building is rustic with lots of wood and a tin ceiling yet the décor is clean, spacious and classy. Wait staff was warm and inviting as well as very attentive. We started by sharing the spinach and artichoke dip which was uniquely delicious being it was heavy on the artichoke and light on the spinach. A half-sized greek salad as next which was expertly crafted in both ingredients and presentation. The main courses were filet and mahi mahi. Vegetable of the day was squash and zucchini. The filet was small but tasty and came with delicious onion rings. The mahi mahi also was small but was covered in a tasty parmesan crust and came with braised mushrooms. To finish off, the dessert was a double decker chocolate pecan pie with caramel ice cream. The pie appears to be a near-full chocolate pie bottom with pecan pie sitting on top, but without karo the topping is mainly nuts. It was an outstanding idea that slightly misses the mark with the chocolate base so hard it almost required a knife to cut. It was a healthy sized slice that was a hint dry which is why the ice cream was a great complement. Overall 303 can stand up against some of the better restaurants in Jackson but is slightly overpriced for Clinton. Also the dinner menu changes, is limited, and isn't posted online. While there were only 6 items on the dinner menu on my visit, 303 has a good selection of sandwiches, appetizers, salads as well as desserts. read more
