I asked Priceline for a car rental place near my hotel. I trusted Priceline, which was a mistake, and took a rental from a Hertz at 1478 Merivale. I requested an SUV with a toddler seat near my hotel to pick up a friend and his family. Instead, I got to go on a 20 minute ($45) taxi ride to the car-rental place. And then, when we got there....it didn't exist! So I had to call Hertz - international rates, of course - which informed me the Hertz was at 1916 Merivale. David, the man who worked at Hertz, was sympathetic to my plight, but there was still nothing he could do about what happened or the fact that there were no toddler seats to be had. Still. David let me keep the SUV until the next morning and drop it off at a different location -- no additional charge. And then, days after I got back home, I received a receipt in the mail from Hertz. They had taken $45 off my car rental fee -- when it wasn't even their fault. And I didn't even have to complain. So that's why I give Hertz five stars. I'll always rent from them in the future. David was a real pro, and a very nice guy. Priceline, however, still sucks.

The story began when my UHaul reservation was completely changed without my consent a day and a half prior to my move from Mtl to Ottawa. I was so upset with UHaul service I decided to see if I could find another truck with another renter, this is where I had an amazing experience with Othniel from the Kanata Budget location. He went out of his way to find me a truck last minute, at a good price and guaranteed he would finalize everything before the end of the day, which he did! He found me exactly what I wanted and made the entire experience so pleasant, I can't say enough nice things about Othniel and the service he provided. He is an exceptional employee and I hope his employers know this and keep him at Budget as long as possible. He knows how to treat customers!! Thank you again Othniel!

One star is about 5 stars too many for this place…read more I should have listened to my instincts when I first arrived here. The guy at the counter (store manager Mike Kearing) printed off my work order and told me to take it out into the shop (watch my step) and give it to the shop manager. Normally shops do not allow customers into the service area. Apparently the guy at the counter is too lazy to bring the work order into the shop. So I bring out the work order. The guy out there says "white letters in or out". I said out. He said "your husband must clean your tires". Really? Should that be any concern of his who cleans my tires? Over $87 to change 2 tires when the site I bought the tires from quotes $58 for them to do the job. The store manager (or owner, not sure which-the guy at the counter) claimed it took well over an hour to change tires that size (315/75R16), claimed they were a real pain (how would he know when he can't even get out of his chair to deliver a work order). Funny thing, just one week ago I had 2 rear tires plus my spare(so 3 tires) of the same size changed at Laplante tire in massena and it didn't even take 1/2 hour. Store manager couldn't find my keys when I left.....he had one of the young mechanics take me into the shop to find my keys". The 2 young mechanics (one of them was kind enough to tell me his positive experience with tires just like I bought) looked in the shop-no keys. They went back out and found my keys right on the store manager's desk right by his keyboard where he was sitting and couldn't find them. This place is a sad joke. So I was mad enough about just getting totally ripped off by this skeevy place, but it gets better. On the way home, my truck seemed to pop out of gear (it's an automatic) and every gear including reverse now acts like neutral. I had to get towed the rest of the way. My truck has never had transmission problems so it is quite the coincidence this happened before I even made it home from this sketchy garage. I'm assuming they knocked a wire or sensor loose, but who knows. So I have a truck sitting in my yard with new tires but now it won't go anywhere. I also have a much larger credit card charge than I should have had. STEER CLEAR OF POTSDAM TIRE! This place is creepy and a complete rip off. Update-I noticed yesterday this place also trashed one of my tires that would have been a perfectly good spare. What kind of "tire shop" can't break down a tire without trashing the bead? This place should be out of business.

Some highlights: * When I had to install a new clutch on my vehicle, an unexpected expense, they were very understanding on the challenges the high-cost job would place on my financial situation at the time. * When my wife moved to the area, they winterized her vehicle and did not charge because they said that the work they did was minimal. * They always break down multiple options when considering larger repairs and make their recommendation considering drivability and cost factors. It was always a pleasure going to for any type of service and I will miss bringing my car in to Mike and the crew.

Because they are Canadian owned and operated, and they sell work gloves and those heating things to keep your hands and feet warm in the winter. I go there maybe every 3-4 months to check out what is on display. It's different than a hardware store, but also good and useful.

A-16 was the first I called and Nabil, the owner, told me immediately that he had the parts I needed and he would call me back when they were ready. True to his word he called within an hour and about an hour later I had the spare window, which was $75, less than the $220 the dealership quoted. A-16 are an awesome business. They have used parts, gently-used parts, reconditioned parts, refurbished parts and can get you new parts as well. I had a small crack in my rear light unit that was going to cost me around $400 through the dealership to get the part. Nabil got me a replacement after-market, new part for $115. If you have any need for parts for your car, and are ok with gently used, then please give A-16 a call. If they don't have it they can get the part for you at way less than the dealerships.

This was during the rail line blockades by protesters opposing the Coastal GasLink pipeline, so anyone who was traveling by train (like us) was stranded. Car rental companies were busy, many locations had their entire fleet rented out, so we were thankful Billy Bishop had some cars left, but I am digressing from the review...). We had minimal interaction with the staff at this Ottawa airport location (which was the only location open late on a Sunday, so we had to return it there despite living nowhere near the airport and having to take a taxi home from there, oh wait I'm digressing again, lol), but overall we were very happy with our experience at National as a whole. As soon as we drove into the assigned parking spot for National, a representative approached us and greeted us. He scanned the barcode on the car, looked around for damage, checked the odometer, gas meter, etc. Told us everything was good, and emailed us confirmation of the return. Easy peasy. Signage for the car rental drop off was clear, and signage for where to drop off the vehicles for each car rental company was also clear. Although I would have rather taken the train like I had originally planned, I had a good experience with National both in Toronto and Ottawa. I would rent from them again, but hopefully next time it will be because National was my first choice, and not because I had to scramble at the last minute to find a way home because my original plans were derailed, so to speak.

Have used them many times with mediocre service, but will never return after latest fiasco. Scam: Dropped my car off for an oil change. Asked that they look at the AC and see why it's intermittently shutting off. The staff member said "Sure" and didn't mention any price, so I assumed they'd call me once they looked at it and diagnosed. Even my written estimate read "A/C Price $- , Inspect and Report". Got a call to pick up my car and am shocked to learn they charged me $271 to put some dye in the AC system to help find a leak (it's not even fixed!). Disrespectful Staff: When I was shocked by the $271 extra charge I said "Jeez!" and was met with a very defensive staff member, "I would have warned you about that when you dropped it off. I'm normally very good at warning customers. It can be anywhere from $200-$500 for an AC repair." What!? I'm sorry, but you didn't warn me, because I'm not signing you a blank cheque for up to $500. Called the manager, he gave me the same shtick, "He would've warned you about the AC charge, he's normally really good at that". I have two staff members now essentially gaslightling me that I approved a $271 AC charge. I'm frugal, for $271 I'm driving with the windows down. "I'm sorry, I was not warned of any charge for the AC, I read 'inspect and report' on the estimate and assumed that that is what you would do". "I'll talk to the staff serving you, but I'm almost positive he would have warned you." Unresponsive manager: The manager, Marc Houle, said he'd check with his staff and call back. That was 1 month ago. I've sent two follow up emails, and called 8 times this week and I've received no response. I think he believes if he ignores me long enough I'll give up. I'm filing complaints with the BBB and Ministry of Public and Business Service Delivery today.
