I had a ton of fun browsing and searching for great finds! The store is HUGE! My biggest complaint is that the books didn't feel very well organized. I shop a lot of second hand stores for books, and I was disappointed with the bouncing around everywhere because of how disorganized the books were. I traveled from 2 hours away and would happily go back -- great prices for sure -- but I'll plan to allow for more time to explore next time. It's a valuable experience if you're patient. Their prices are a little higher that Half-Priced and most times it's still cheaper for me to buy new at Amazon. Not as many used books as I would like either, and I prefer to buy used. Your Conroe store Manager let me stand in line for 20 mins and I was the only person in line. I had to go ask another employee to check me out. 10/9/24. The Manager was talking to another employee behind the counter on his phone both was looking at his phone. They kept looking at me standing in line but did nothing until the employee I found in the dvds radio him. I tend to spend a lot of money there but I'm not going to go back. OVERPRICED. Omg is this place overpriced. Every time I come in here I go look at the records here, they are always at least $5 more than the actual record store down the highway Volume Music. If two stores are selling the exact same Product and one of them is a corporate store, I'd expect the corporate store to have cheaper prices than the mom and pop shop, but not here. On top of that, their used books are far from a steal, and their "vintage and rare" stuff is never rare or that vintage. They're basically taking mass produced books from not that long ago that sell used for $10-$25 everywhere else and are slapping insane prices on them. They literally had a book that was from another shop in the area that someone obviously bought then sold to 2nd and Charles when they were done, it still had the price from the other store. It said $12. So why they had a $30 tag on it in not sure. When I brought it up to someone there they basically told me "we know nothing here and sell to people who hopefully know less than us." If you want a real book store don't go here. It's basically a nerd trap. You go here looking cool stuff and leave with either no products or no money. I'd avoid. Go to a real book store who cares, or a real music store who cares. read more

Well, I didn't know what kind of store this was and I didn't want to waste my time with a store I wasn't going to like. So I avoided it like a plague. My husband was curious to see what type of store this was, I took my imaginary gun and shot that idea down real quick. I basically did what I tell my children not to do. What you ask? Judge a book by its cover, duh. Fast forward to the now... We were killing time before dinner and I said hey, let's check out that store you been wanting to check out. My husband: I thought you didn't want to go to that store? Me: Well, we have time to kill. Husband: What did time ever do to you? We pull up to the store and I get out, I'm going to get started looking in the store, my husband and dad-in-law stays behind finishing what they were setting up in the vehicle. Well, about 10-15 minutes later my phone rings and of course it's my husband: Husband: so how is the store Me: I never made it into the store, I've been outside looking at the book shelves they had outside of the store!! REVIEW STARTS NOW AND GO: I gave 2nd and Charles 5 's I love bookstores, I love spending time looking and decompressing. I spend hours just perusing. Book shelves stacked with books from my feet to the ceiling (almost) Step stools available to reach a book higher than you. Vinyls for record players Comics CDs Clearance Instruments Kids section Book on anything and everything. A section for everyone. Games and game console, old and new. Friendliness of the employees And more... Everything is clean, clear and organized. Buy and sell, buy and sell,buy sell Since walking into 2nd and Charles, I've visited 3 days in a roll spending at least 2-3 hrs each day. I haven't made it through the whole store yet. I have been wanting to go to 2nd & Charles for a hot minute & I'm so excited to have been able to get there. The store is filled with amazing items. Inside you'll find new/used books, rare books, music, movies, comics, new & vintage toys, & so so much more! Staff seemed friendly. I was probably approached once by an employee asking if I needed any help. I don't like to be overly approached when I'm looking & shopping, so I liked it only happened once. I picked up a NECA Pale Man, 2 Loyal Subjects mystery minis, & a bag of NECA figure stands. I'm already planning my next trip in! If you can make it in I highly recommend this store. read more

It's definitely a stretch calling this a book store, maybe a fiction bookstore at best. It seemed to me that this was fully centered around action figures, novelty items, and toys. I went in there for looking for a couple history books and a German to English dictionary. First off, the funky pop figures had more shelves than the non fiction section. The history and political section was half conspiracy theories. I asked the people at the front if they had any books on a couple of subjects. And got told no. But after an hour of looking through the ridiculously unorganized shelves I did find a book on what I needed. I think in a bookstore/library organization is necessary. Also I think it's weird they didn't have a English to German dictionary, probably between a few fantasy novels across the store. read more

The good: They have a huge selection of books, movies, and knickknacks. They'll usually have what you're looking for if it isn't something too obscure. You can find really good gifts for people here too, especially if you're shopping for someone younger or part of a fandom. The bad: This store is poorly organized. It can be extremely hard at times to find what you are looking for. The worst thing about this store though is - they'll scam you! I've been scammed here twice. The first time they told me I could get three free magazines at checkout - if you say yes to this they will send your credit card information to a company that will charge your card for these subscriptions. There is nothing free about it. I felt taken advantage of by this store again when I went in today: at checkout the cashier asked me if I'd like to make some kind of donation, which I said yes to. I THOUGHT they were going to ask me how much I'd like to donate; instead they added $9.99 to my bill without mentioning the amount to me. If you choose to shop here do not take any of the offers that they present you at the cash register. They are SCAMS. read more

There are so many things here that are hard to find at other stores in the area, plus the wide selection of Comics, Books, Knick Knacks, CDs, DVDs, and video games current and classic is hard to beat, especially for the prices they have. This place is absolutely HORRID. If you are going to have them "buy back" your books prepare to be screwed over even though almost all of the books are in brand new or like new condition. Literally $15 offer for almost 100 books?!?! Give me a break. You will also not see their associates out from behind the counter. They like to stand behind the counter. If it wasn't for the fact that I wouldn't have received my books back then I would've just walked right out. You can tell they don't care about their customers and are just trying to rip them off. Also, their bathrooms are ATROCIOUS. No paper towels, no toilet paper, no soap. To be honest, I'm surprised this place hasn't been shut down with as little care as they are taking with the cleanliness aspect especially with COVID spiking at an all time high. Terrible experience. Have been to this store several times both to sell books and to buy. Very limited selection of books. Personnel are not very friendly....it could be that there is never enough help. When selling books, I have had to wait a long time for help while one person is trying to deal with a line of purchasing customers and the book selling area. On the most recent occasion I was second in line with books to sell and it took 3 hours to get the offer.... fortunately I didn't have to wait in the store, but that's an inordinate wait time for being next in line. I really hope this store improves as they are the only game in town for this type of business and as a reader I really don't want to have to keep driving to the woodlands to go to a bookstore. read more

I went into this store to find a fathers day present for my brother-in-law and as I was searching I found their "rare book" section. I collect books and have several very expensive hard to find books and even more less expensive vintage books. There is a HUGE difference between rare and vintage. All of their books were vintage, none were rare. I found a Heritage Press, Sandglass Edition, of Swiss Family Robinson. I looked at the inner sleeve and saw it said $15. I know exactly which store it came from originally as I recognized the handwriting and signature, the guy who owns it knows what a book is and isn't worth. I own several other Heritage Press, Sandglass Editions and they are all worth around 15-25 dollars. This book was worth $15, that's what they should have charged, at most I could see it going for $25. I purchased the book along with some other things and I noticed that the total was kind of high, but I just assumed that I miscalculated the total in my head. After looking at my receipt I noticed that they charged $44.95 for this books. I instantly returned it because I know I could find the same book, in better condition, for half the price. I have just come to the conclusion that 2nd & Charles has no idea what books are actually worth and seriously overcharge. Even their new books I could easily find cheaper. I don't think I will go back again, if I find a book I like there, I'll check for its actual price to see if it adds up. They need to hire some people, or train their employees, to know how to properly price books. It's a nice store, but it could be much nicer if it didn't drain your wallet so fast. read more
