I ordered the lobster tacos and they were impressive in both taste and presentation. I also ordered a cup of Clam Chowder which was served with oyster crackers. Served in a cute sack with their logo and story. I ordered on the app so it was ready to pick up when I wanted with no line or wait. Staff text you when your order is ready which is super convenient as you can wait in your car if you choose to not order ahead. You order points towards free shop items as you order their food. It's a win-win situation. Thanks for the great experience!

As a Yelp Elite Squad member and someone who openly supports local and small businesses--through my…read moreInstagram, attending farmers markets weekly, and working with local businesses when they need extra hands for markets and events--it pains me to leave a 1-star review. Honestly, I don't even know if they deserve that. Today, my mother and I planned to get a lobster flight. My mother is a native New Yorker who grew up catching her own seafood, and living on a farm in rural Buckner, MO, she rarely gets the opportunity to enjoy a good lobster roll. I drove three hours from St. Louis, refusing to stop even though my doctor has instructed me to stop every hour to help prevent blood clots, because my mom was so excited to try this food truck. For once, it was close to her house. Driving to Lee's Summit is a huge stretch for her, while even Costco in Independence is much more manageable. I got home around 12:20 p.m., and we immediately hopped in her car to head to the event, which was advertised as running from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. We arrived around 12:50 p.m. only to be turned away because of the heat. We had just driven 30 minutes to get there, only to be dismissed because it was "too hot." Last week, in similar weather, the St. Louis truck had no issues operating and serving well over a hundred people during the food truck festival. I was almost in tears, and so was my mother. This was supposed to be a special treat for her. Personally, I feel like the heat was an excuse. My father owned and operated a food stand at the Missouri State Fair for years, smoking meat for over a week at a time and serving thousands of people. There was no food truck and no air conditioning. I am absolutely in favor of keeping people safe during extreme heat, but when you own and operate a food truck, hot weather is something you know you'll encounter. I also work a second job serving food and drinks out of a shed with nothing more than a fan for eight-hour shifts, and we don't close because of the heat. To make matters worse, the employee told us they had posted the closure online. There was nothing posted online.

If you're looking for authentic Kansas City barbecue, Slap's BBQ absolutely deserves a stop. This…read moreis the kind of place where the focus is on the food, not the frills. The casual, counter-service setup has a true neighborhood BBQ joint feel, and it's easy to see why both locals and visitors recommend it. The restaurant is especially known for its ribs and burnt ends, and it's common for popular items to sell out later in the day, so arriving early is a smart idea. The barbecue was outstanding. The meat was tender, smoky, and packed with flavor, with the perfect balance of bark and juiciness. Every bite tasted like it had spent hours in the smoker, and the house barbecue sauce complemented the meat without masking its natural flavor. Portions were generous, making it an excellent value for the quality you receive. The sides were just as enjoyable and rounded out the meal nicely. Everything was served hot and fresh, and the fast-moving counter service kept the line moving efficiently even when the restaurant was busy. Overall, Slap's BBQ delivers exactly what people hope to find when they come to Kansas City for barbecue--authentic smoked meats, generous portions, and a laid-back atmosphere. Whether you're a local or visiting for the first time, this is a barbecue destination that's well worth experiencing.

Smoky, juicy, and the most flavorful item on the plate. I'd order this again. 2. Sausage - Solid texture with balanced flavor and good smoke. 3. Pork - Tender with good smoke, but still could've used a little more flavor. 4. Brisket - The weakest of the group. Thinly sliced, no real bark, and lacking the richness and seasoning you want from good brisket. Sides: - Baked beans: very one-note sweet. - Hush puppies: good flavor, just fried harder than I prefer. They were generous with the extras--lots of pickles, jalapeños, sliced bread, plus both sweet and spicy BBQ sauces included. Overall: decent BBQ with excellent smoke, but I wanted more flavor to back it up.
