It's 9:45am and I am making this post to let those of you who shop here know what I just saw. This place has been on the decline in recent years, but the lack of integrity I witnessed this morning takes the cake. The reason why you can never find any items that correspond with the 50% off color of the day is because as soon as this place opens, there are employees assigned to hurry up and REMOVE items with that color. I was in the shoe aisle and all of a sudden saw a woman grabbing shoes and quickly tossing them into a bag. As I looked closer, these were all shoes with BLUE stickers (which happened to be the 50% off color of the day). No one else was in the aisle which is why she likely felt comfortable doing something so grimy. The fact that everything in this store was received for FREE and literally just put on a shelves and hangers--but you people have the NERVE to not only price gauge but intentionally HIDE items that would have qualified for the 50% off color is egregious. First timer . Have been walking by this shop but never visited till now . It's actually a hugeeee shop for a thrift shop. They have everything .. - home decors , kitchen things , dress , shoes , etc etc . Price of many items was much more than I thought . This is one the largest thrift stores in DMV area. Items are well organized and store is fairly clean. It's fun to walk around with kids to get my steps in LOL. They have a large selection of books, baby items and clothing in general. Prices are not as cheap as Goodwill, a bit on the high side for thrift items. Service was friendly and parking is easy. It's located next to a wawa and a strip mall and across from the Dutch market, pretty convenient. read more

With a name that includes superstore in their moniker, I would have expected something a bit more from here. I would have expected a huge array of items that covered all departments you would expect. But this establishment was heavy on clothes and light on everything else. With age, you find yourself more inclined to thrift on a weekend than nurse a hangover. I had been out all day thrifting and was hoping to cap it off with this place. I'm still stuck on the fact that superstore was in their title. I thought it would have been the jackpot place, I was wrong. Not that I couldn't have browsed through the clothes, I was on a mission for other items before I skip to the cloths. I honestly did a real quick search through their furniture and home good items and was really put off. There was not a good selection and what they did have, probably shouldn't have been put out for purchase. Maybe I will give it another try down the road, but I will let some time pass by before I get to that point. read more

If you are a Thrifter, then you will love this store. I'll judge thrift stores based on size, scent, selection, organization, and price. First, scent. The store is huge. It is massive. As a result it would be very difficult for you to experience that thrift store scent when you first walk in because of the amount of airflow so it gets five stars for scent. It also gets five stars for size. Its a very large thrift store one of the largest I've ever been in which is pretty characteristic for 2nd Ave. thrift Selection also gets five stars. Every shelf is packed. There's multiples of each item in every department. The only department that was a bit weak was furniture, but that could depend on when you go. It's also pretty well organized, especially in the clothing section. However, I always look through all of the racks because sizes do get mixed up. Sometimes pricing is also fair and they do have color discounts. Interestingly, they have self check out. That is a first. They also have a points reward system if you think you will go frequently. I will definitely be back just for some treasure hunting. Bring your own bags the carts do not go to the parking lot. read more

Customers are encouraged to join the 2A Thrift Superstore loyalty rewards program. I received twenty-five percent (25%) off each item. The customer service here is great. My son needs Dre's trousers for his HS graduation and business clothes for job fairs and interviews. We went to 2nd avenue and in less than an hour he found two almost-new Jos. A. Banks suit jackets/blazers, two pairs of dress pants, several dress shirts, an umbrella and various knickknacks. Total: 20 items Average cost per item: $6.55. My son has his Mom's commando shopping genes, and he has outfitted most of his high school wardrobe from this store. Yeah, I'll do that all day. We shopped on a Tuesday, which is a day where everything is on a discount (15% I think). One of his items wasn't priced, and the cashier took a similar item with a low price and scanned it in. They do charge for bags, so bring large bags (like ALDI shopping bags) into the store. The carts cannot leave the inside of the store. It will take work and time, and many things are overpriced. We simply don't buy those. And while they no longer have dressing rooms, they do have a 14-day return policy, so don't review price tags until you've tried on the items at home, and check you receipt to make sure it's complete. read more

Was held against my will for almost 30 minutes. I had gone to second avenue, thrift store in Laurel, MD. I had finished checking out using the self about 10:22 am. I realized I forgot my wallet, but the employee, Judith wouldn't void out my transactions. I thought I could set up google pay but google pay wasn't sending me my code. I kept getting increasing the frustrated and kept asking the lady to avoid my transactions so I could just go home. She refused and held me there against my will until I set up a strange app on my phone that allowed it to have access to my credit card just so I can pay because she refused to let me leave stating that she would get in trouble for avoiding my purchase. I left the store, crying and having a panic attack. It felt like false imprisonment, because I just wanted to walk away and leave and she wouldn't let me she kept telling me she wouldn't void the transaction and she wouldn't let me leave. She actually was whispering to other customers and humiliated me about it. I feel ashamed and embarrassed and I never want to shop at this store again. read more

This is a huge thrift store and probably the largest in Laurel. They have an incredibly large used books selection, tons of games and toys, and a lot of photo frames, yet the size I need still eludes me, as this is how thrift stores go. On certain weekdays, everything is half off, which is awesome. I somehow don't seem to get out here on those days, though. Big spacious parking lot out front. Watch out for construction going on and cars whizzing by. read more

This is the best thrift store I've been to in a while. The items are high quality and very gentle used clothing items and some items were even new. I was able to get dresses, shirts and pants for under $100 total. They have a lot of items from crafts to cookware and clothing and shoes. They provide free bags to put your items in. I opted to use my own bags. The dress rooms were not opened so I didn't have a chance to try on my items. They have a 14 day exchange policy if your items do not fit. read more

I decided to stop by this place on Mother's Day and all it did was piss me off! They had three colors on 50% off; however I walked the whole clothing department and all saw three items on sale! The store was flooded with 98% of orange and green tags which were not on sale! This is sad! I use to love this thrift store. But now it's filled with a lot of nothing. My allergies kicked in as soon as we opened the door. It smells like mildew and moth balls. The smell was strong it came through my mask. When I normally come here I can rack up on different things. I only left with two sweatshirts that were new! So at least I got what I came for. They deserve zero stars for price gouging! The store is alright in terms of organization, mega watt lighting and defined sections, but they are TOO EXPENSIVE WAY TOO EXPENSIVE for mostly junk. First off the store lacks sale items that are marked 50% off. I am a serious thrifter and can spend over 4 hours sorting and looking. I could tell they started their deception with the fact none of the half priced color items were found in at least 4 sections. How can they put up a sign with a certain color being half off and out of 500 items only 10 are the half off? On to the stuff...Cracked and extremely used dishes, drinking glasses sold for MORE money than any new Dollar Tree dishes, glasses?! Then you have the books. YEP. RIP OFF. Hard cover childrens thin book half off $3. INSANE. All the books too expensive. Mens tacky jeans how about $16. Ladies dresses, tops, skirts SKY HIGH. What galls me is the accessory part where they have used sunglasses and crappola costume jewelry for prices higher than NEW. WTF? The process of checking out is discombobulated. As I was checking out and the lady said two of my items were only 33% off. She explained not the color of 50% off. So I told her that I did not want those items but did want the other 2 that were half off. She did not like that I did not want it all, and tried to convince me to purchase what I did not want. I told her no thanks only the indicated items. She called her manager and they spoke in some Indian dialect or some other language and they laughed while looking at me while the mgr. deleted the items I did not want. I do not need to be disrespected for a lousy ten dollars-and they did. Unbelievable, but it does happen when folks are ignorant. The check out part is bizarre and they have no semblance of time nor respect for the cue. One lady leads you to a self check out ONLY IF YOU PAY WITH A CREDIT CARD. The rest you need to go to the only register where tweedle dee is stationed to pay in cash. Why is finding good stuff and checking out a hassle at this place? It was not that bad before. They had better flow and organization before the pandemic and the prices were not outrageous. It has changed for the worst and to boot there is zero customer service. The store used to be better, but I do still shop here when I'm in the area. Their books are priced too high, Hard backs are 3.99, paperback are 2.99. If you find an item without a price which is annoying as usually another customer has torn the price off, you can't buy the item. They have, they say, no one to remark the price until the next day. Their toy department is a disaster and its both the customers and the staffs fault. They have great selections of small items in plas. bags hanging on the walls. Lots and lots of every size clothing. Lamps. electronics, etc. are plentiful. Check out is a pain, mostly done by yourself, but then you can't check a tag and you must wait for staff to help. Many staff members on the floor do not seem to or not want to understand English, that's a big No NO for me. read more

That plus my weight loss journey has precluded me from spending a lot considering my body is constantly changing (ahem shrinking whoo flipping hoo). Anywho, I dig thrifting because you never know what you may find. 2nd Ave has been here for some time, currently the parking lot is under construction; however, there appears to be plenty of spaces. This location is flipping huge, and everything is sorted. From clothing, books, household items etc. I will admit though that despite things appearing to be sorted by size, they arent. No matter to me though as you go thrifting to sift...he he he. Awesome selection for women; many name brand items and a great deal of them still had tags! Yaaaasssss! Nice selection of men's wear too think SUITS, ties, dress shirts and the like. Again, things weren't necessarily sorted by size. Come on select days to get 50% off a specific color and during holiday weekends to get 50% off everything! Needless to say I had a dope haul of never worn items and I am pleased. Tip: if you sign up for their loyalty account you can save a percentage with a specific dollar amount spent. read more

This had become one of my favorite thrift stores to visit whenever I'm in the area. The store is huge with spacious aisles. Probably the best clothing selection of all area thrift stores due to the sheer size, especially T-shirts and active wear. Not a lot of furniture but plenty of everything else - in terms of children's toys, I've never seen as large a collection of all kinds of toy cars and trucks - you just have to have the patience to sift through all the stuff they have. It's fun to just browse even if you don't end up getting anything. read more

Gauging prices(they mark items higher than original prices!), little inventory, many no tagged items, and weak customer assistance. This makes me so sad. So sad! Savers, who recently purchased 2nd Avenue, has absolutely ruined my all-time favorite store. It was always such a delight to shop at 2nd Ave; selection varied and prices were mostly decent for a thrift shop. No more. The prices are now eye-popping, with a simple tank tee costing up to $11! I couldn't believe my eyes - after all, this IS a thrift store. Their merchandise is donated. They obviously have joined the national bandwagon of GOUGING their faithful customer base. I counted at least 2 dozen items without tags, an all-time high. (They won't sell an item w/o a tag.) Tag sizes didn't match clothing labels. And while 2nd Ave has always been a bit bad about having sizes in the correct sections, any sizing organization now is nonexistent. PLUS, in addition to higher prices - you get to check out your own items. Pay more and work to shop. I even enjoyed the music they would play as I shopped but not anymore, as it's 90% Mexican and I can't sing along. Savers, you suck. 2nd Avenue was my haven, my destination for everything. This has been one of the best thrift stores that I have ever been too. A great selections of books, some new ones too for only a buck. Lot's of different style new and old in the clothes department. Recently, my friend found a cute and quirky flamingos wearing bowler hats and bow ties. Alice in Wonderland tea party anyone? The only room of improvement I think they could do is the dressing room. I say add a chair and more hooks in the room. Also a big sweeping up of all of the dust bunnies. Employees are friendly and helpful here. read more

One word, ginormous This is one of the hugest thrift stores I've ever been in! It's well lit, and clean. The staff is helpful, and unlike many establishments they appear to have an ample amount of staff that are on the floor stocking inventory. I love this! I was like a kid in a candy store and didn't know where to start! This store was packed with people, but because it's so much space you didn't feel like your space was being invade. Most of the pieces I looked at were new or in great condition. Some of the pieces were over priced like a Jones of New York jacket for $29.99 Uhhh, this is a thrift store and the customers expect bargains not prices that you would find for brand new items. Ijs‍ With that being said, I found a large cognac colored leather satchel for $9.99, and another gold chain linked black medium size leather bag with the CC gold emblem also $9.99. In fact, when I got to the register the cashier said she believed they had mistakenly priced the bags. Oh well ‍There loss and my win This store is well organized and each section from children's, menswear,women's wear to accessories and households offered many choices. Again, I noticed in the furniture section there were some over priced pieces such a kitchen sideboard for almost $90 Yes, it was beautiful piece,but I could have gone on Wayfair and gotten something similar brand new. Now, when it was time to check out, there were at least 30 people in front of me, but because they had so many cashiers available the wait was short. My cashier Terry was super friendly and got me enrolled in the Loyalty program. Nice, because I spent $117. When you spend $150 you will get 10% off your next purchase to include the sale ticket items. This week Orange tags were 50% off and green were 33% off This business is open 7days/week. On Sundays whatever the color tags of the week are they will both be 50% off This was my first visit,but definitely not my last. 2A Thrift Superstore - Loving this sweater $7.99 and on sale 33% off - Thrift Stores Near Me - Laurel, Maryland

This store has been in Laurel a LONG time. I used to shop there much more frequently, whether alone or with my kids. The GOOD: It's a big store, and usually very well-organized. They recently became even better organized. I was just there yesterday (7/20/24) with my youngest (my 20-year-old son, who is COOL ENOUGH that he doesn't mind hanging out with his mom !). They have installed white vinyl coated metal organizer racks in several locations to organize and arrange flat-ish items, so they don't end up in piles spilling off the shelves, getting scratched, etc. The aisle where they have cookie sheets, sheet molds, shallow pans, etc. is a sight to behold!! It also looks like the employees are keeping sets of matching glassware (drinking glasses) neatly organized with slightly larger gaps between sets, so that it's easy to tell what goes together. They have a HUGE selection, but it's not surprising, since they're the biggest and most centrally-located thrift store in Laurel, MD. There's a Salvation Army north of Laurel, just above where Route 32 crosses Route 1, but THAT is a good store for FURNITURE and WALL DECOR. 2nd Avenue doesn't seem to carry large furniture--just usually random mismatched chairs and very small tables. Sometimes there will be a cabinet or two, but they're displayed at the front where the registers are, probably for the instant visibility and ease of removal when purchased. There's ALWAYS a HUGE selection of almost anything one may need or want. The BAD--there are TWO factors that stand out for me: (1) The PRICES in this store have GONE UP, to almost ridiculous heights! It's as if the store has hired people with better knowledge of brands. I used to collect Lenox decorative pieces (vases, bowls, swans...) when I could find them cheap (those in cream color porcelain with gold borders), but I saw a nice size oval bowl at 2nd Avenue yesterday priced at around $15, which seemed high. I worked at Garfinckel's --a now defunct chain of slightly better merchandise than Woodward and Lothrop, also now defunct, or any current higher-priced chain--back in the early 80s, while I was in college. The prices 2nd Avenue asks for "collectibles" these days is CLOSE to what they cost NEW, in my opinion. 2nd Avenue HAS to REMEMBER that their merchandise IS DONATED !!!! They get it FREE, so it's not like they're buying anything wholesale!!! (2) 2nd Avenue STILL assigns COLORS on the price tags as they price incoming merchandise, BUT THEY NO LONGER OFFER SPECIAL SALES ON CERTAIN COLORS, which USED to be MUCH of the reason I shopped there! Now, it seems they'll pick ONE weekday and offer 25% off. For example, their "sale day" is currently Tuesdays, and it seems EVERYTHING is 25% off. They USED to typically pick 2-3 colors, and might offer 50% off one color, 33% off another, and 25% off another. That way, the discounts might be really great depending on the color of tags on what one found. Sometimes they might also focus sale colors on only Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. I guess Tuesdays are typically SLOW DAYS, and the weekend's BEST donations have already been picked over by the end of the day Monday, so they figured TUESDAYS would be a good day for moving out the LEFTOVERS. The MERCHANDISE is as GREAT as ever, BUT the PRICES and DISCOUNTS are just NOT GOOD anymore.... read more

As 2nd hand as it gets!!! I personally love thrifting. There's something about finding treasures in what is essentially someone else's trash. I've been to this store two or three times and all I seem to ever buy are books. But it's a great deal when you can find a good second hand book! Today I went in search of some prints for my new office and I didn't find anything I liked but some of the pictures had great potential. They have everything from Tv's to couches. I don't think there is anything they don't sell. It's really clean and organized in this facility and I recommend you check this place out if you have some extra time and need something random in your life!!! read more

Brought my son here to purchase a "western-themed" outfit for his school's spirit week. Purchased a hat ($9.99), shirt ($4.99), cowboy boots ($24.99), and a few other unrelated things. It was 9:45 PM when I checked out, just before the store was closing. The following morning, I removed the items from the bag and noticed that the boots were missing. I checked everywhere and realized that the cashier must have neglected to put them in the bag. This oversight defeated the point of the point of the outfit, but I digress. I called the store and spoke to a very nice woman and explained to her what the boots looked like. Sure enough, she found them in customer service. She said to go there when I came in. So, I went in tonight, waited patiently for about five minutes at customer service for the woman behind the counter to finish with another customer. When it was my turn, I explained to her what happened and pointed to the boots that were behind the counter. She told me I'd need to talk to a supervisor and pointed to another woman who was walking away. I followed her to the opposite side of the store and politely told her that I'd been instructed to talk her. Instead of greeting me like a customer, she was visibly annoyed and complained that there was another manager up front who I should talk to. Even still, I said, "Ok, who should I ask to speak to?" Reluctantly, she then asked me what the issue was. I explained the situation to her and told her that because this was not my fault - that THEIR employee had made the mistake, I'd like a refund, despite them having a no-refunds policy. She told me that was not possible. That *maybe* if I'd come back on the same day, they could have refunded me. First of all, how would I come back the same day when I checked out as they were closing and didn't realize the item was missing until the next day. Second, if the cashier hadn't made the mistake, I wouldn't have HAD to come back. Frustrated, she directed me to the store manager. He at least didn't appear to be annoyed to be helping a customer. Still, he recycled the same B.S. answer and said the very best they could do was to give me store credit (for an item that never made it into my car). Realizing I wasn't going to get anywhere with them because of a combination of completely nonsensical store policy and an unwillingness to see the value in customer service over being right, I accepted the offer for a credit. I let him know that it was nothing personal, but that I would definitely be submitting a complaint and posting reviews. He acknowledged that and we went to the counter. What happens next is a joke. The supervisor takes my receipt and HAND WRITES "store credit approved by Delma" and the amount of the cost of the boots (not including the tax I paid). She turns around and carries on with her business. My husband walks over with two $3.99 items that he wants to purchase. I hand him the receipt and the supervisor says, "No, you can only use the entire amount of the credit all at once." That's when I actually lost it. I have a HAND-WRITTEN store credit for an item that I paid for and never received because of an error on THEIR part, and I cannot use it unless I use the entire amount all at once... Q: WHAT KIND OF SENSE DOES THAT MAKE? A: NONE. Not a single damn ounce. As if she couldn't have scratched out $24.99 and written a new balance on her make-shift, short-changed, nonsense receipt for the sake of making things right with a customer. To add insult to injury, the manager says something like, "Ma'am, we are a thrift shop, not a big corporation." Not at all, you're just an LLC (Limited Liability CORPORATION) with 11 stores across four states. and, sorry, whether you're a big corporation or a mom and pop shop, shouldn't you always try to correct mistakes and treat the customer like a person, not an annoyance? This was a service fail from start. Once we have used our credit, we will not be returning. read more

I've shopped at the Columbia,Md location nearly once a week for quite a while now, good prices, clean store, with great selection. I've visited this location in Laurel a handful of time now, and the prices always feel far higher than the locations sister stores, especially as it relates to anything with minor damage. Half the non clothing items still sat in beat up original boxes... Felt more like walking into a Goodwill than a 2nd Ave. read more

I've found some really goooood stuff from 2nd Ave. besides clothing, I've found brand new Ugg boots and lamp shades and surging platters and purses (the good kind) and board games. Plus they stay open late! I've also noticed China dish ware that I've been kinda eyeing-only because I think married people should own Bone China dishes with a China cabinet (don't question me). There's always a sale on Sundays, Mondays, and Thursdays with random colors assigned to tags for which the store honors different colored labeled tags on different sale days (it's a surprise to everyone...even the store clerks). I ONLY GO ON SALE DAYS though because I feel like I can get something brand new at the cost of a gently used item sometimes. Or maybe I'm just cheap?? But seriously, 2nd Ave is a bit pricey when it comes to non-discounted items. A few gripes come to mind though: 1. Over priced on non-sale days. 2. The floor employees are not friendly AT ALL. 3. They only have a small selection of furniture on any given day. 4. The isles could be better maintained. With all said, 2nd Ave is definitely a place to stop by while you're in the area (or am I the only one who looks for good thrift store when I go through neighborhoods??).
