So much has changed since I wrote my prior review, and it's really sad. The building is mostly great.. but the people totally ruin it. The pros have mostly stayed the same, though there is a change..
Doormen- still awesome. Seriously, they make this building tolerable. That one chick.. I haven't seen her much, and she's gotten nicer.
Of course, the negative-
First off, my lease was signed under the promise that I wouldn't have to have people coming in at all hours. Well.. guess what happened. Of course, they did it on the days they knew I'd be busy, so I had to cancel my plans. (I'm not letting someone I don't know run around, hell no. That's asking for trouble.) Sometimes, these were recurring therapy sessions for severe depression. They knew that. They didn't care. (Excuse me, I live about 200 feet in the air, with a balcony that has only a railing. Might wanna consider that.)
They usually gave me 24 hour notice. Usually. I've gotten one saying they'd be entering between 12:30 AM to 2:30 pm. I don't care if that's a typo or not- someone typed it, and someone proof-read it. You're asking to enter my unit at 3 am, or whatever. That is NOT acceptable. Tip: proof-reading. They also slipped me a notice saying they'd enter on Easter. Seriously, who the hell does that on Easter Sunday? I think that was the time I called, they said they'd skip over my unit. Guess who showed up?
I think part of the breaking point for me was when I came home and found out someone had been in my apartment. I switch what locks I lock when I leave, just as a safety precaution. Yeah, I got home and the wrong lock was done. Everyone in the building denied coming in. Yet when legal action was threatened, they changed their tune. Apparently maintenance thought I needed my locks changed, or worked on, or something. Excuse me- you weren't supposed to be there that day, the issue was regarding the door having that gap on the top (still not fixed), and had absolutely nothing to do with my locks. How am I supposed to get in if they screw up my locks? This happened at 9 at night, since I'd had classes all day. That's kinda sorta /really/ not acceptable. At all.
My shower is still a deathtrap. They say it has a fan, but it doesn't. (It does, according to the head of the sales team.) Karen, who is the head of it.. She's clearly two-faced. If she wasn't in front of a buyer, she'd be rude as hell. It's totally clear by how she acts. There's this one person she works with, I don't know her name but I call her Duckface. Seriously, she looks like a duck. If you see her, she's the one with the weird playboy bunny ear iPhone case. (Seriously? Who actually has that when they're over 30?) She is the rudest, most condescending and annoying person I've run in to while being here. She came in with Karen and a few other people to show my unit. CONSTANT remarks about how I hadn't cleaned in a few days. (Uh, hello, I'm also packing to move, since I wasn't planning on staying past August, and I don't exactly have time to clean every day. Things get messy, nor do I go in to YOUR home and criticize every single thing.) I have a bird, and they were well aware of that. One of the people who came in smelled HEAVILY of perfume. I said whoever it was couldn't be near the bird (in the bedroom) because perfume is bad for birds to breathe. (Sensitive respiratory systems and whatnot.) I kid you not, she made a snide comment, saying that "the bird could handle two minutes." Uh, no. For one, that perfume stinks, and if it's giving me a headache, it'll get to the bird. For another, unless you'll let me smoke, and blow the smoke, in your children's faces, don't make comments.
As said before, rent isn't paid by me, and the lease isn't signed by me. Had I been given a chance to see it, I'd have never moved here, and if you're thinking about renting (I think they're still renting out a few places), you really shouldn't. (I wish I'd seen it before signing, it would've saved a hell of a lot of a hassle for me.) The city gives people 120 days to leave their apartment. There's a clause in the lease (their rental rider agreement) that gives them the right to throw you out in 60.) read more
