I have been doing yoga around the world for most of my adult life and I'm almost 50 years old now…read more This "sculpt" class with the instructor Tomio, was probably the most boring class I have ever attended. I barely broke a sweat and his voice and tone gave the impression that he was reciting the most dry text book for the 100th time and he didn't even want to be bothered. He gave insufficient communication when sequencing and teaching, having no cues for breathing, giving no explanation or modification, having no clear explanation of what muscles students should be engaging and only using about 75% of class time for actual exercises. He used so much time up for talking, changing music and water breaks, it was actually a good waste of my time. He clearly had some experience with upper body strength, but his class was full of older people who didn't have the same ability as he did. He didn't read the room and adjust to his student's abilities or give any modifications or suggestions for older people who couldn't perform his unrealistic exercises. Most students were 40+ women and he had the class doing planks or push ups for the majority of the practice. I couldn't leave fast enough because he repeats everything he says at least twice, as though it's a nervous tic, and it's very hard for someone who is an instructor to listen to his communication skills. He couldn't even count down without repeating himself and counting double. I also kept pulling long hairs from my weights. Yuck! After class, I tried to rinse off in the shower and it was full of a bunch of dark brown hair. I don't think this place is for me.

A yogi's hidden gem in Pierce County…read more I am in such deep gratitude for this yoga studio. It all started over a year ago when I moved myself and my family out here to this area. I knew I wanted to get back into yoga and decided to try out Tuladhara's new student special last summer for my birthday gift to self. Best decision of my 30's thus far! Fast forward to over a year now being at this studio: 1. I have never felt more connected to Self while practicing on my mat nowadays, all thanks to the amazing teacher staff here (special shout out to Alicia, Leslie, Laura, Sona and Caitlin!). 2. I am officially certified as a 200 Hour RYT myself THANKS to this studio. I took their 200 Hour training earlier this year and have since then graduated (extremely life-changing experience for those interested in becoming a certified yoga instructor or to simply deepen your practice). 3. Still one of the cleanest (with no marketing BS) yoga studios I've practiced in. If you're new to yoga, come to Tula. If you're not-so-new-but-would-like-to-come-back-to-it, come to Tula. If you just want to feel "at home" on your mat, come to Tula.

My latest class was with Kat and it was the Yin Candle light (Cate is usually the instructor). What a relaxing way to end the week with stretches that hold and test your will to just be. Another class I have taken and loved is the gong bath meditation with Wayne Barto. The vibration of the enormous gongs send you in to a state of pure bliss and total submission to just give in to the space and be renewed through their energy. I have my class pass for the next few months. Meet me at the mat.

From day one, this studio has been incredibly welcoming, encouraging, and genuinely kind. I never felt intimidated or out of place as a complete beginner. Instead, I found instructors who met me where I was, challenged me in all the right ways, and made me feel supported as I learned and grew. What makes this studio so special is that it is much more than a place to take a yoga class. Simply Hot Yoga has created a true community -a caring, loving yoga family. That spirit shows up in every class and through every instructor. The entire team has encouraged me not only in my yoga practice, but also to invest in myself, prioritize my well-being, and recognize that it is never too late to try something new. I am so grateful I walked through those doors last June just weeks before my 60th birthday. What began as me simply trying yoga has become something I genuinely look forward to and value in my life. If you have ever thought about trying yoga but felt hesitant, intimidated, or wondered whether you were "too old" to start, this is the place I would tell you to go. You will be welcomed, supported, and cared for from the moment you arrive. Five stars simply are not enough.

So I walked past this place for a good three months before I finally decided to go in and see what…read moreit was. I danced for 15 years and so I knew that Barre stood for a ballet barre, so I assumed it had to be some type of exercise studio. All of the ladies that work here are super friendly. They have a lot of really great packages and programs. Student discounts, Corporate discounts (if you can get five people to sign up), and New Client Memberships. I decided to try it out and purchased a drop in class which was $18.00. Man! This is not for the faint of heart. I had to modify most of the exercises, and had to take multiple breaks the first couple of weeks. I have always been a pretty active person. I played basketball in college (DII NCAA), and danced. I had been doing CrossFit for 10 months, but had taken a break from it due to multiple surgeries. I also didn't like how bulky I got doing CrossFit or that my WOD only took 20 minutes, and I felt like I hadn't worked out long enough. Barre is completely different. It is very challenging! This is not some Zumba class at your local Y. It is a full hour of circuit style barre/yoga/pilates style exercises. You will get your cardio! Don't worry! You will not stop moving for an entire hour. I love that I get a full body workout and my cardio in an hour. The same workout would take 2 hours of weights and then a two mile run just to get the same feeling. As a mother, I don't have three hours a day to spend at the gym. Barre provides variety to avoid muscle memory, and every class is different. I have been taking all of the 12 o'clock classes during my lunch hour (with the exception of Tuesdays). There are different instructors on different days, but even if you get the same person leading the class the workout is ALWAYS different. I usually have class with Trish or Elizabeth's, and I have done one 4:30 class with Dena. Love all of their styles. They are great. Elizabeth and Trish give modifications and really guide you to challenge yourself, and not give up. I literally feel addicted. I am coming 5 times a week, and I can tell on the days when I don't go that I missed a workout. This isn't a fad workout program, and there are a bunch out there. It is hard work, but if you do it, you wil get the results you want and better! I knew the first time I walked into class and saw a small group of women that looked like dancers that I was in the right place. Not because I look like a dancer, but because I want to look like one! lol I already feel leaner and more flexible. Just try a drop in class, you will be hoooked! It is great, tons of fun, and you will be back.
