Ask the Community - The Studio

Is this Pilates or Lagree? I know it says Pilates but looks like they're using lagree machines - which I'm more interested in

How many Pilates reformer machines do they have? I do IMX Pilates Reformer daily and will be new in Tacoma (moving to Tacoma), are these similar to IMX Pilates? Is the High…

Hi Ty! Thanks for your questions. :) We have 7 machines at The Studio. We’re unfamiliar with IMX Pilates, but if you’ve ever tried Lagree, that would be most similar to our High-Intensity Pilates™ class.

I did the high intensity class with Lindsey and was surprised at how comfortable I was made to feel.

How's your new year's resolution going? In mood to learn something new, or add something different…read moreto your workout? Are you looking to explore on improving your posture and form while strengthening your muscles? Well I think I have a perfect place for you. Quick background on my personal pilates experience before discovering People's Pilates (they're new in town, opened in Dec 2022!): I tried pilates few years back for about two months (Bellevue Pilates), I did not like it mostly because of the atmosphere- small group in a quiet space, which is expected of this exercise because its low impact and focuses on strengthening and stretching your muscles. Yeah it was boring for me and I never looked back. Pure Barre was more of faster pace with upbeat energy for me so I stuck with it for 2+ years and it was great! Fast forward to 2023, I've been going to Orangetheory Fitness for 6 years now which is more of quick paced and I love it, but I've been looking to add something low impact, a workout that can help me relax my muscles and tensions in my lower-back from repetitive high intensive workout. People's Pilates have highly knowledgeable instructors, they will not bore you to fall asleep on that reformer. They have a comprehensive routine that is various, and I recommend starting off with "Intro to Pilates" class a couple of times, it will help you to be familiar with different parts of the reformer and discover pilates the right way. They also offer classes like Glide&Flow; and Strengthen&Lengthen that focuses more on specific type of workout to improve your unused muscles and help you get in right form. One thing I took away from my initial classes is that your body is going to keep fall in a way that is comfortable with, and that's not always the correct form. People's Pilates instructor helps you to focus on your form first, so that your spine is aligned correctly and that has been a huge help in relieving some tensions I've had in my lower back and glutes. The atmosphere is inviting and friendly so even if you've never done pilates before, its not intimidating at all. They also incorporate different equipment into each workout, so no session is the same as the one before. They offer variety of membership and class packages that you can purchase so that you can try as few classes as you like or as many as you like. Check out their website (or App!). I purchased 3 class pack and have done 4 classes so far, and I must say that I have a whole new perspective on pilates now. Lastly the instructors are super cool and they have a playlist that keeps me moving! No more of that zen pilates that I've tried to fit myself in.

Went to my first class here today -- it was the stretching/mobility reformer class and loved it!…read moreKelsey was an incredible instructor. I'm about as flexible as a 2x4 so having an instructor that was willing to correct my movements and whatnot was awesome. Will definitely go back!

TLDR; I do not recommend Club Pilates to anyone athletic with Pilates experience. The level 2…read moreassessment criteria are not taught in level 1 nor 1.5 classes at this studio. It is absolutely not worth the price. On a personal note: I felt like this was an experience of age discrimination as I was often the youngest person in class and for some reason someone noted "young, able body tho" on my assessment form after they decided to not recommend me for Level 2. (Most of the assessment form wasn't even completed) Full review: I've been an athlete since childhood, have done barre and other Pilates studios for years. I recently moved to Tacoma and decided to try Club Pilates. I am canceling my membership after giving it an honest effort for three months. I have paid nearly $300 per month for the minimum 3 month membership commitment to have unlimited classes (taking between 3-5 classes/week) for mediocre Pilates workouts. My whole goal for this 3 months was to test up to the level 2 classes in hopes of them being challenging and allow me to actually drop a bead of sweat or feel some sort of challenging exercise. Upon signing up for a three month membership, I asked when I could test for the level 2 classes and was told I wouldn't pass since the instructors "didn't know me." This was my first clue into the cult of Club Pilates; why is this form assessment also based on who you "know"? I believe that testing for form is acceptable to deem admission to higher level classes, but NOT when the form is not explicitly taught in class. The level 2 assessment was quite frankly a joke considering the way level 1 and 1.5 classes are taught. I attended class regularly during my 3-month membership trial with hopes of being approved to start attending level 2 classes. To my dismay, the level 2 assessment was full of questions relating to anatomical jargon that is never explicitly discussed in any of the class formats I've taken (Reformer Flow, Control, Cardio Sculpt). I am always open to form-correction, but hardly received any in all the classes I took. I would not recommend Club Pilates to anyone unless they are looking for very leisurely body movement, whether due to older age or mobility issues. Having lived in San Diego, Durham, and Seattle, I have found MUCH better Pilates studios than this one. So far in Tacoma I have found La Maison Pilates which is 10x better in terms of difficulty and they still emphasize form with smaller class sizes. It's a bit more expensive but actually worth the money.

You'll start to see the same people in your classes if you go at the same times/days, but I like to try to mix it up and go to a bunch of different ones if possible! One of the instructors, Nora, recently started a book club which has been a lot of fun and they do cool events and sometimes partner with local businesses as well. I think *all* of the instructors do occasional theme nights too like Beyoncé music, Monday night football, 80s week, etc which makes it fun because you know what kind of vibe you'll be coming in for! There's different types of classes, different levels, and the instructors have different vibes. Whatever work schedule you have you can usually get into a class per day! I liked how their intro class walks you through a lot of the different things you will be doing. It took us a handful (or more lol) of classes to finally get the Pilates lingo down so don't feel discouraged if you're having to look around your first couple of times to see what others are doing. The instructors will help too if they see you looking confused! (A few photos of the studio with trying to not get anyone else in them)

I absolutely LOVE this studio! Mind you it is the only studio I have ever been to more than once,…read morebut that is beside the point. I felt completely welcomed and at home the first time I set foot in Brandon's studio. The rates are comparable to others I have seen, the hours are awesome, the equipment is extremely nice and the instructors are outstanding! When I first came (about 2 years ago) it was with a friend to try a reformer class. I purchased the "beginners pack" which is an excellent deal (includes matt and reformer classes along with 5 privates... YES I SAID 5 PRIVATES!) Brandon (the owner) asked me about my goals and limitations/why I wanted to try Pilates. He hooked me up with an AMAZING instructor, Kris, who not only has helped me in my practice, but has really helped me with my life. It was like it was meant to be- a serious blessing. All of the instructors are great- and very different. It is well worth mixing it up and taking the different classes and trying privates with each of them. They all have a different vibe, but are all well informed to make modifications for your individual needs. Matt and reformer classes are offered throughout the day, and they even have a TRX class ( I have never taken it but I know it is popular!) I came here with a TON of body drama (physically and mentally), and although I still suffer, my symptoms are SO MUCH BETTER. As I said in my google review, the people who work here genuinely care about you as a person- not just a client. Sometimes I feel like I go just for the vibe/ chit chat instead of the practice :) I HIGHLY suggest checking this studio out if you are in Tacoma. You will not regret it. HOT TIP- I started by attending classes/session 3-4 times a week, then going a little wild (yaaaa maybe I was doing too much), and now back to 3-4... and yes you will notice a huge difference in how your body moves, feels and looks! It totally works!
