The entire team here is incredible and the members are awesome as well. We have both done personal training (my trainer was Kam) here and learned a lot and we go to the Sunday class most often . Ascent is both welcoming and accommodating to folks of all identities and abilities and of all sizes. As someone with concerns about environments that can foster an environment where counting calories and weighing in are encouraged or emphasize is put on size, Ascent is the exact opposite. Ascent is a wonderful unicorn place where people can go just to learn how to better move their bodies and grow stronger and find victories that have nothing to do with size- like hiking longer distances, or having less back pain, or being able to lift more. They always offer alternative exercises to meet people where they're at which is super refreshing. They also host so many great events and series classes like queer inclusive self defense. We drive from a fair distance away because the community here is so much better and they have a mission you can't help but support. By far the best collective group of humans I've met since moving to Washington and that is such a testament to the owners Luca and Katie!

The…read moretrainers are down-to-earth and supportive, the environment is friendly and encouraging, and the workouts kick my butt every time. The focus at this gym is functional fitness, so you do a variety of exercises each time you go--including crawling, get-ups, weights (and body weight exercises), lunges, etc. I also love that the trainers will give plenty of modifications as needed, as I'm limited in shoulder mobility due to an injury. Their main format is small group classes, but personal training and open gym hours are also available. Which works for me, became I'm way more accountable when I'm in a class anyway! I've gotten noticeably stronger since I first started, which has helped me not only in my work and at home, but with my self-confidence overall. Exercise really is the best self care. Thank you, Ascent Fitness!

The studio is beautiful and has all of the equipment you need for a great workout! I've known Jules, the owner, for years now and she is a fabulous instructor. She knows a lot about anatomy and understands the body well so she can make suggestions for modifications to make any exercise easier or more difficult or to make it work for your injuries. I also had a chance to take a class with Vonda and she was fantastic. The front desk staff is also kind of friendly. They have cute merchandise and some drinks and accessories for sale in the lobby. If you're new to Pilates, Reformer Fit Club would be a great place to start. There's no snobbery or gatekeeping, they just want everyone to move their body and enjoy it. If I lived closer, I'd probably be here everyday.

They certainly aren't used to drop ins at the 5:30am class so I felt like I surprised her a little when I showed up. There isn't a lot of info on their website about drop ins, so I just reached out via email ahead of time to let them know I was coming. They have the coolest t-shirts from american apparel too! I feel like I would drop in again just to get another shirt! The programming was awesome and I got a great workout in! They have fantastic equipment and it's all in wonderful condition. You can tell they take pride in their gym. There is plenty of parking in their lot too, which is always a concern in the urban areas. If you're in the Tacoma area I definitely suggest dropping in at Tacoma Strength!

"what's Crossfit?" I definitely didn't know what I was signing up for when my school [University of…read moreWashington Tacoma] was having a sign-up for something called Cross Fit on their Facebook page. Just in the midst, I have been debating over where to re-join at a gym to start working out [hopefully commit....] it was only a $5 fee for UWT students to attend an orientation and to go in twice a week for I think it was a month or so. I went to the orientation, no one but myself showed up.. kind of embarrassing. When I first stepped in, I felt like Plankton from Spongebob... I was scrawny compared to these extreme work-out people... even the ladies were muscled-up. Since I was by myself, it was more one on one orientation which gave me more space to ask questions and such. I think the person's name was Morgan? Maybe.. I don't remember~ he took me around and showed me the different exercises Crossfit involves. I was really excited to try this out. After the orientation it was a couple weeks after that I attended my first actual session. WOW... I am exercise-impaired, literally... I cannot properly work out for some odd reason despite being "out of shape". It was super embarrassing that I was so slow and had to use a pipe compared to others who had pretty heavy weights attached to their bars. I don't know if Crossfit is exactly what I am looking for when it comes to working-out but definitely I am proud of myself for giving it a go. But just a bit too intense for my level. The trainers and people at the session were super friendly and understanding about my lack of skills and was patient with me as I struggled embarrassingly... back and forth across the gym... with the weight sled thing dragging behind me (:

But, John and Anna have definitely changed my mind! TRX is a total body workout that tones, strengthens and builds muscles. I've only been to 5 classes but they are always fun.....difficult, but fun. The instructors were able to correct my position/posture, modify my moves and encourage me to go longer, faster and harder. It's always pleasant, easy to sign up, affordable (especially with their groupon deals) and on time. Classes are an hour and totally worth the time if you have it. Tip: bring water, a small towel and an open mind. Oh, and stretch. Stretch a lot. Like, seriously.....a lot.

I'd never done personal training before, but a friend recommended Summit and I've been partaking in several sessions monthly. Working out with a trainer is much better for me personally, and I've started to see results somewhat instantaneously. I certainly feel the difference between working out solo vs being held accountable and being personally coached. Via Summit I've worked with two trainers and fancied them both - Robert and John are awesome! John has years of coaching and training both professional athletes, various teams, and individuals such as myself. Robert was a college athlete and is in prime shape himself, and he really kicked my butt at my sessions. Bottom line, do you want to get in shape in a more structured, efficient manner or beat around the bush flailing on your own? I'll continue with my PT and am stoked to have found this gem of a gym (2 locations).

The disuse of the muscles due to pain has caused a lot of problems with my shoulders, hips and plenty more. I've spent a fortune over the years going to massage, PT and Chiropractic only to ever get temporary relief. I went to The Club with hopes of developing long lasting strength and stability. During my initial consultation the owner said right off the bat that Jesse was the right fit for me. His training and credentials were impressive and we got started right away. Turns out he was right. Based off the intake and symptoms I described, Jesse knew exactly what to focus on and developed an individualized plan to fit my needs all the while being aware of my limitations. I've been training for a little over a month now and I couldn't be happier where things are at. There was a pain between my shoulder blades that I thought would always be there that doesn't hurt at all. My low back is more stable and is holding up longer and longer. Im doing exercises I never thought myself to be able. For the first time in my life I feel hopeful that having a ton of pain might not be a lifelong issue which every doctor and specialist has told me it would be. Aside from my personal experiences...the gym itself is great. The equipment and machines are all kept in great condition. The gym isn't very big but they have everything you need and it's perfect for a personal training gym. I've never had to wait for a machine or piece of equipment. The entire staff is friendly and welcoming. And I think that covers everything. Like I said...only good things to say about this gym. Worth every penny.
