The decision to train at Armor athletics could not be described any other way than life changing. Earlier this year I suffered from a low back disc herniation. It was incredibly debilitating to my everyday way of living. I had tried going to specialists, chiropractics, and some physical therapy and had made little to no progress in rectifying my pain and daily limitation. One of my best friends had been going to Armor for a couple of years for crossfit and had recommended that I just come in and chat with Zach to see if he felt he could help. He took a deep dive into my current state, looked over my MRI and observed my movement and immediately had recommendations and actionable next steps. In my first physical therapy/training session with Zach, he took the time to explain the medical philosophy to his prescribed training regiment, which I really appreciated. That day I came into Armor to speak with Zach I was unable to sit down as my back pain was so severe. No exaggeration, one month later I was able to participate in my very first crossfit class with some limitation. Two months later I became a full participant in crossfit. After doing the On-Ramp class in the beginning of October, my wife and I decided that this was the place for us. Being in the Army we have access to excellent fitness facilities on JBLM (including free CrossFit classes), but it is nothing compared to working out at Trident. From the professional and friendly staff to the motivated and helpful CrossFitters working out alongside you, there is no place I would rather work out. The class based setting along with a trained coach monitoring your form and progress through each phase of your work out combine to provide a challenging and exciting place to go! Are you looking for motivation? Or are you looking to take an already fit body and become the best you can be. Most people, I would think, are some combination of the two. I have been at Trident for eight months. I have watched people from all walks of life and fitness levels walk in the door. To this day every single person who comes to class shows noticeable change. There is no judgment, everyone remembers being new, and is ready to encourage you. My first day I could not do one push up. That is when I learned that workouts will be scaled for your personal needs. Then over the next few days I realized that everyone scaled at some point, and it became easy to feel part of the group. You can get as little or as much interaction on the movements, how to eat, and so on. You will never be "sold" anything. The detail that all of the staff goes into to help you never ends. And they will not compromise, and they will not let you compromise. The last but most important thing is the feeling you get when you walk in the door. People know your name, and from day one are interested in your over all health. There is no perfecting cross fit, you can always be faster, or lift more weight. Trident is by far the best gym I have ever been too! It is really more personal training in small groups that meet up at set times during the day than a traditional gym and it has gotten me in the best shape of my life! Every CrossFit class is different, incorporating a vast variety of skills including Olympic Weightlifting, push-ups, pull-ups, kettle bells, rowing, running, jumping rope, box jumps, flipping tires, climbing ropes, pushing sleds and much more! One of the best things is anyone can do it. When I walked in the door there was no way I could do a pull-up, but the trainers just gave me skills to work on to build up my strength and now I can do pull-ups! Everyone here is amazing! The trainers will work with you to help you reach your fitness and nutrition goals and fellow gym members are supportive and cheer you on. We all work out together and help each other out. There are also extra programs offered throughout the year that members can sign up for - like a 6 week female fat loss program I just completed and a 6 week men's strength building program my husband recently completed - both with amazing results. And it's all great fun! This is not just my time to work out, but also my time to be social and have fun!! And extra activities like BBQs and baseball games are always an added fun bonus!! read more

I LOVE this gym. I have been going here for about 1.5 years, and couldn't be happier. I had started doing CrossFit on my own in Iraq, and am so glad I found Trident Athletics soon after I came back. In the time I have been there, I have become stronger, faster, leaner, and overall healthier. I look forward to going to the gym to workout, and also seeing the friends that I have made there. I no longer dread spending thirty minutes on a treadmill or elliptical. Instead, I can't wait to get there, find out what the workout will be (which is different every day), and have "fun" doing the workout. I call it "fun" because through sweating, pushing ourselves to the limit, finishing a difficult workout, and cheering each other on, we do have fun. But it's no walk in the park. I am 43 and started late of 2010 --- Box jumps? Rope Climbs? Chin ups? Pull ups? Burpees? I remember Jeff giving me a 45lb plate my first day in order to start practicing my jumping (who uses both legs to jump at 40 and looks coordinated?). I used the big 'ol black band to help me with pull ups. While my goal was not to necessarily loose weight, it came off, I am now about 12lbs lighter and now can box jump 24" plus, climb ropes, do chin ups and pull ups unassisted (still working up my reps though!). Each day it is always a work in progress; each day the workout is different -- it is scaled to your ability -- you begin adding weight, you climb higher, you jump higher, you simply become stronger because Jeff, Amanda, and their Instructors see it --- they support and encourage everyone of us but do it safely and most importantly with instruction. Not to mention there is the person next to you, who inspires you even more and friendships are made--- oh and not to mention the new vocabulary and conversations you start having with others; "the WOD was AMRAP 20 of Snatches and Turkish Get Ups." I started working out at Trident Athletics on 1/1/15. This is the 3rd CF gym I've tired out and is most certainly the best. The coaching is top notch. Coach Zach (lead coach/director) is a physical therapist so he is keen on making sure that the movement is solid before he encourages you to add weight. At the same time, for relatively inexperienced people like myself, Zach pushes me when needed and through his guidance I have gained confidence and strength. The facility itself is clean and well organized. There is always enough equipment and space (you're never worried about getting a barbell dropped on your head). The facility also has a clean bathroom and a shower. Plenty if free parking too. Trident has an excellent mix of people who workout there. There's a blend of all abilities and personalities (from grandmothers, soccer moms, 20-something's, and active duty members). Everyone has been friendly and encouraging...making me excited to return. If you're curious about crossfit I highly encourage you to give trident a try. The workouts are hard however they can be changed for all fitness levels (the coaches will help you with that!) I LOVE Trident Athletics! I started going to this "gym" because I found that I was lazy and unproductive with my own time at the gym. I knew I needed motivation and some structure to meet my weight and fitness goals. This was just what Trident Athletics provides... Each day when you walk in you see the WOD or "Workout of the Day". They are always different and designed to give you maximum results. Everything can be modified - which means that people at all different fitness levels can work out together. They introduced weight lifting to me - something that I was always scared and nervous to try on my own at the gym. The owners live and breathe what they teach. That is important to me. I used to belong to Bally's and I would see clearly overweight personal trainers giving advice to people half their size. That doesn't work for me. It's like taking healthy eating advice from Paula Deen - it just doesn't make sense! Overall, this is a great gym because it provides structure, a team mentality, support from owners/trainers, and it's FUN! I'm not a gym rat. I've struggled with my weight and strength for all of my adult life. But my girlfriend, a true athlete, introduced me to Trident several months ago. It has been amazing. I'm still not an athlete and I doubt that I ever will be. But I'm stronger than I ever have been before. Trust me, I'm still sore every day. But so is everyone else, even the hotshots. And I'm down 10 pounds! This is not a gym to come to if you want to ogle girls. Don't get me wrong; the ladies at Trident are pretty for sure. It's the oxygen debt that will prevent you from scoping out the ladies. Jeff and Amanda are true professionals who had chosen to concentrate on creating a space where everyone from the hacker (like myself) to the true athlete can feel comfortable. You'll get teaching on form, nutrition, and commitment. Other Cross-fitters will serve as encouragement and as benchmarks. Bottom line: It will hurt. It works. People are nice. I don't typically write this stuff - but I've had such a positive experience here that it would be a mistake not to say something about it. I've had some health stuff, and some bad diet stuff, and I'm out of shape. Like, doing-scaled-down-versions-of-most-exercises out of shape. I was really self-conscious when I went to the gym for on-ramp, but the trainer (Zach is the man) was fantastic. I'd like to be clear about something - when I review this gym I'm not reviewing Crossfit. I don't really care what people think about Crossfit, and it doesn't much matter what you think about Crossfit - what makes a gym work is the people, the atmosphere, and the camaraderie. Make no mistake, this is a friendly place, no judgement or stress. They're committed, kind, and there for you. I don't know what else to say really. Come down, sit in, check it out. This is my happy place. I've been Crossfitting here 5 days a week for 3 months and have loved every workout. All the coaches/trainers here are amazing. If they're not coaching a class or working with a client you'll often see them working out themselves! I joined cuz I was tired of going to the corporate run globo gyms where the trainers are actually sales people trying to sell a membership. I recommend Trident Athletics to everyone I know because I'm stronger, faster, and an overall better athlete than I was in college. The workouts are different everyday, and you'll continue to progress toward your fitness goals with the help of the coaching staff. I can't say enough about how awesome this gym and everybody involved with it is. Large space, awesome equipment, top notch trainers, and a supportive, motivated community of members. If you're completely out-of-shape, never trained a day in your life, the coaches will lead you through the program and, if you just show up and try, you'll see results!!! It's changed my life! I have never in my life experienced workouts that I get from Trident. Before I came to Trident, I was lacking motivation, my workouts were boring me. I came here and crossfit changed that completely! Zach and Everett are amazing, knowledgable, and motivating coaches. Zach not only helped me with starting crossfit, he gave me advice with supplementation, nutrition, etc. The people/atmosphere are great! This is by far the best gym I've ever belonged to. I was always skeptical of crossfit, but when I moved to Tacoma I decided to give it a shot. I chose Trident for two reasons: the stellar reviews and because their Director of Training (Zach) has training as a physical therapist. I like that there is a pretty diverse group of people who belong to Trident. There's a huge range of fitness, but the workouts are always tailored to be as hard or as easy as you need. I've found most of the people at the gyms I belonged to in the past to be pretty annoying - not so at Trident. I am happy to call Trident my gym and will do so as long as I can. read more
