Case in point, on day one the owner diagnose an issue that I was having with my form for one of the Olympic, weightlifting movements, which another gym in the areas coaches hadn't noticed for seven months, and had led to an injury. Day one Joe diagnosed the problem and it was fixed without me even asking! There are two sides of the gym, dedicated for electric weightlifting on one side, and the other side, high intensity, interval training. This shit is easily accessible, clean, and has easy parking. It is not a globo gym, nor is it simply an iron fitness. There is space for what you need if it's a casino workout, or you're dropping in for open gym or individual weightlifting session. Coaches run classes on time, one hour, which is not the experience that I have had other community style gyms in the past in the area. American flag over the door, attentive coaches and community, never asking for reviews online (a great plus!), accessible in ten minutes or less from JBLM, Lakewood, all the way up to Ruston. Great location for access!

And don't send you what they say they are going to send. Oh, and trying to return is even worse. They try and rip you off BAD! Then they try and make you pay more money to return it than it was to buy it? Haha, how does that make sense?

I started at CFY WOD Dogs in 2012, after learning the basics at another box, which closed. I left…read moreCFY just a week ago. The facility is excellent. Since the latest expansion, there is plenty of room even on a Saturday, when (from what I've seen) the largest number of people are there. There are two restrooms, a shower, and a kids' room with a TV and toys. Everything is kept up well and is always clean! The schedule/hours is exceptional. The 0630 class fit my life best, but there are also classes at various times throughout the day and evening, plus "open gym" times when one can go in to work on skills or make up a missed WOD. Each class that attends at the same time every day tends to have its own character. The 0630 weekday class, for instance, became known as "The Breakfast Club" and we were (are) definitely a fun and goofy mix. More on Community later. Coaching is amazing. I mean that, truly amazing. Of course each coach has a distinct style and manner, but across the board, the standards set by owners Annie Malone and Rob Carlson are embodied by every other coach I had the pleasure to work out under. They inspire, teach, critique, support, and hold each athlete accountable. Lastly, the aspect of community cannot be overstated. The overall tone of most traditional gyms is that of individuals going in and slogging through their solo workout. Sometimes you will see someone with a workout partner, and I for one used to envy someone who had that. In CrossFit, everyone is expected to support everyone else. Yes, it is your individual workout, but all other people in your class are "suffering" through the same workout - at their own level. I worked out alongside athletes who were in excellent shape, strong and fast and who could do every element. I could not begin to count the number of times I was finishing a run at the end of a WOD, only to have one or more faster classmate(s) come back to plod the last part with me! There is a saying that CrossFit is the only sport in which the last person to finish gets the loudest cheers. It's true. So, while my review of CFY WOD Dogs has turned into a spiel for CrossFit in general, I actually want to make this point: any gym or workout is only as good as the elements that keep you coming back. This place, this coaching staff, and this community is one that has been a huge part of my life and absolutely kept me going back for more.

I had the privilege of being coached and driven by Annie (the owner), Christian and Chelan. Wish I could have a box like this closer to me in Cali. They make you see things in you that you don't necessarily see in yourself. Laughter and music keep you fueled through the long, grueling workouts. Can't wait to go visit Washington again so I can workout with this incredible group.

But what made me realize we were in the RIGHT place was the response to our needs! ALL the staff have been helpful and kind the entire 3 years we've been members. They helped me come up with appropriate ways to workout successfully and include my son. All their efforts have been documented and shared so that our needs are addressed respectfully AS WELL as the needs of other clients! Recently my son and I were enjoying a typical day in the pool when were were yelled at by another client. She was upset about the way we were using the Handicap restroom. I understood her concerns and tried to calmly discuss them with her. However, she was instantly elevated in her attitude and began screaming at my son and I. I am grateful that in his quiet world, he didn't even notice. In that chaotic moment, his symptoms were a blessing. However, I felt sad and frustrated as I watched my son enjoying himself. A few moments later, another client who I have become friendly with, came out to the pool to let me know that the confrontational woman continued to talk about my family and try to insight others in the locker room to her plight. My friend informed me that this woman was "waiting" for us to come back through the locker room so she could give me a "piece of her mind". My friend made me aware that she had let the front desk know what was going on. 2 minutes later, Gwen and Danny showed up at the pool! They asked how we were and shared their concern. They were kind, calm and transparent while being totally professional and understanding of all points of view represented. They asked if we felt comfortable and offered to help. Because of their care and concern, I was able to have my son walk through the men's restroom with another client with no stress. I was able to allow my son the right to enjoy the pool, with no stress to him and leave the gym feeling safe, protected and respected! There's NO better feeling! Thank you, everyone!

TWO (2) squat racks in a gym with well over 3k total members is absurd. Poor management and club planning. Sales are sales in the gym business, but take care of your members at least
