Sarah Hartman is the best trainer, coach, "counselor" you will ever find…read more I am a 62 year old female who just needed some workout help when I met Sarah. She was fabulous and with each session she was prepared and knew exactly what I needed to develop muscles and maintain a healthy body. She taught me "gym" skills I will never forget and confidence to work with weights and understand my body, showing me how to improve it. Little did I know that I was in need of a complete hip replacement at the time. While I waited for my surgery, she worked with me to keep my body strong and muscles toned so that my recovery would be the best possible. Six weeks after my surgery I returned back to Sarah (weaker, and unsure if I would ever be the same). Her training techniques and exercises were designed just for me and I became stronger and more confident. She understood how to correctly help me and not only manage my physical needs but also my mental fear of having a new hip. I am now able to walk better and use my left side (new hip) just as I do my right side. She is the best. I could go on and on about her expertise, fabulous people skills, outstanding knowledge of every exercise, weight, and technique to help her clients. I highly recommend Sarah to anyone, at any age, in any physical condition as a trainer and coach. You will not be disappointed!

This gym banned my husband, not me, with no notice or conversation…read more My husband and I attended west coast fitness for multiple years beginning in mid 2022. I loved the gym at first, built community there, frequented the small businesses within (estheticians), and I worked with a personal trainer there. A few months ago I would've left a glowing review about the gym. While there are areas needing improvement it was exactly what you'd expect at the price point. A few months ago my husband and I went to workout together as we always did. I paid for a membership with guest privileges for myself and he was my guest. He, like many others, was Olympic lifting. We had never been corrected before so had no idea about their new policy against Olympic lifting. The owner calmly asked my husband to not drop the weights. He was confused but agreed. After our workout he went to inquire about the dropping weights when he was using bumper plates, which were used by many in the gym for Olympic lifting. They had what appeared to all to be a cordial conversation about the new rule and all walked away with a new understanding. I did not think anything of the conversation. There were no raised voices or bad vibes at all. At a later time my husband inquired about the process of canceling my membership because I am beginning medical school out of state. The employee gave him the information and it all seemed fine. I think this is where the miscommunication possibly occurred. Next time I came in the gym alone and nearly completed my workout. I received a text on my phone asking me to go to the smoothie bar to speak with an employee. I was then informed that my membership had been terminated because "my partner did not like the Olympic lifting rule and requested to end the membership". I was shocked. I explained that was not the case and was confused how that was understood from the conversation. The employee didn't know what was going on and was very patient with me as I was upset and honestly so embarrassed by the situation. She promised to speak to the owner and call me back with more information. She came through and ultimately they said I could have my membership back but that the owner was not comfortable with my husband returning! I was so surprised. I tried to inquire about why or to see if he could return with me to no avail. It was just me or neither of us. To top it all off I did continue going to the gym as I only had a few months left and saw multiple people Olympic lift without correction. I had multiple friends at the gym who had their memberships terminated similarly without conversation or warning and were offered no explanation. I am grateful I was told why, even though it made no sense to me. Additionally, the gym markets itself as a gym supportive of the military community, but offers no monthly discount for military members like my husband. I caution you to consider this before getting a membership.

But what made me realize we were in the RIGHT place was the response to our needs! ALL the staff have been helpful and kind the entire 3 years we've been members. They helped me come up with appropriate ways to workout successfully and include my son. All their efforts have been documented and shared so that our needs are addressed respectfully AS WELL as the needs of other clients! Recently my son and I were enjoying a typical day in the pool when were were yelled at by another client. She was upset about the way we were using the Handicap restroom. I understood her concerns and tried to calmly discuss them with her. However, she was instantly elevated in her attitude and began screaming at my son and I. I am grateful that in his quiet world, he didn't even notice. In that chaotic moment, his symptoms were a blessing. However, I felt sad and frustrated as I watched my son enjoying himself. A few moments later, another client who I have become friendly with, came out to the pool to let me know that the confrontational woman continued to talk about my family and try to insight others in the locker room to her plight. My friend informed me that this woman was "waiting" for us to come back through the locker room so she could give me a "piece of her mind". My friend made me aware that she had let the front desk know what was going on. 2 minutes later, Gwen and Danny showed up at the pool! They asked how we were and shared their concern. They were kind, calm and transparent while being totally professional and understanding of all points of view represented. They asked if we felt comfortable and offered to help. Because of their care and concern, I was able to have my son walk through the men's restroom with another client with no stress. I was able to allow my son the right to enjoy the pool, with no stress to him and leave the gym feeling safe, protected and respected! There's NO better feeling! Thank you, everyone!

They have a bunch of machines that nobody use that take up floor space while everyone fight over the 2 squat racks, 3 benches and few sets of cables. If you try to use the "personal training" area then the staff kick you out, even if they are not using it. We were told once by a trainer that we could use the area but then other staff are rude and unprofessional and kick you out. The managers will only defend their employees behavior and won't actually do anything about it. You're forced to wait around for the few machines / equipment that are worth anything. They don't use your annual fee for new equipment. Over 2 years of going there the only new equipment we saw were a few new rope handles for the cables. If you actually want to workout, don't go to LA Fitness. If you want to pay for a membership and not go, don't get a membership at LA Fitness, it's an arm and a leg to do so. They also make it very difficult to cancel your membership.

I'm a little nervous with contact sports and want my kid to be safe. So it was important to find a gym that had the knowledge and experience to teach my child the right way. When we walked into the Hammerhead Mixed Martial Arts gym, there were many members training, some in gi's and some in plain workout clothes, but everyone was engaged and the atmosphere seemed relaxed and friendly. Joey, the owner and head coach was able not only to answer all my questions but also educate me and gave me advice for what to look out for in a mixed martial arts place. He didn't seemed concerned for me or to sign up with him but rather to sign up with a martial arts gym that can do more harm than good. We got a seven day free trail and my son was able to try out every class Joey teaches. Long story short, we signed up. We felt part of the team from day one and everyone is helpful and patient with my son. I learned later how much experience in various contact sports the trainers have and how well they apply their techniques to teaching. I am very confident that my son gets the right training, support and is in a safe environment with the best trainers. He is excited about his progress in his training and enjoys being at Hammerhead Mixed Martial Arts. Definitely recommend it!
