This gym banned my husband, not me, with no notice or conversation…read more My husband and I attended west coast fitness for multiple years beginning in mid 2022. I loved the gym at first, built community there, frequented the small businesses within (estheticians), and I worked with a personal trainer there. A few months ago I would've left a glowing review about the gym. While there are areas needing improvement it was exactly what you'd expect at the price point. A few months ago my husband and I went to workout together as we always did. I paid for a membership with guest privileges for myself and he was my guest. He, like many others, was Olympic lifting. We had never been corrected before so had no idea about their new policy against Olympic lifting. The owner calmly asked my husband to not drop the weights. He was confused but agreed. After our workout he went to inquire about the dropping weights when he was using bumper plates, which were used by many in the gym for Olympic lifting. They had what appeared to all to be a cordial conversation about the new rule and all walked away with a new understanding. I did not think anything of the conversation. There were no raised voices or bad vibes at all. At a later time my husband inquired about the process of canceling my membership because I am beginning medical school out of state. The employee gave him the information and it all seemed fine. I think this is where the miscommunication possibly occurred. Next time I came in the gym alone and nearly completed my workout. I received a text on my phone asking me to go to the smoothie bar to speak with an employee. I was then informed that my membership had been terminated because "my partner did not like the Olympic lifting rule and requested to end the membership". I was shocked. I explained that was not the case and was confused how that was understood from the conversation. The employee didn't know what was going on and was very patient with me as I was upset and honestly so embarrassed by the situation. She promised to speak to the owner and call me back with more information. She came through and ultimately they said I could have my membership back but that the owner was not comfortable with my husband returning! I was so surprised. I tried to inquire about why or to see if he could return with me to no avail. It was just me or neither of us. To top it all off I did continue going to the gym as I only had a few months left and saw multiple people Olympic lift without correction. I had multiple friends at the gym who had their memberships terminated similarly without conversation or warning and were offered no explanation. I am grateful I was told why, even though it made no sense to me. Additionally, the gym markets itself as a gym supportive of the military community, but offers no monthly discount for military members like my husband. I caution you to consider this before getting a membership.

Since joining the gym I have been frustrated and disappointed with the cleanliness and aging…read moreequipment-especially in the cardio section. But I thought I'd give it a chance: I should've done my due diligence and aid more attention when signing up. Well, just like other comments I was hit with the maintenance fee. I was taken back since I am already frustrated with the lack of maintenance. When I called I got the " well you signed for it" comment. What a scam. Maintenance for what. Broken equipment regularly; dirty; 50% of the time towels not available to wipe down equipment.... Antique tanning equipment.... So I decided to eat the cancelation even though the club did not meet my expectations: from the start. With that being said it appears that not only do you pay a cancellation fee; but you have to pay another month's membership due to a 30 day notice policy. If your reading this- join at your own risk. If I new what I know now I wouldn't of made the mistake. In the meantime I am checking on the validity of there "contract" and fees. Somewhere in consumer protection there has to be a failed to deliver clause. No accountability WCF.

But what made me realize we were in the RIGHT place was the response to our needs! ALL the staff have been helpful and kind the entire 3 years we've been members. They helped me come up with appropriate ways to workout successfully and include my son. All their efforts have been documented and shared so that our needs are addressed respectfully AS WELL as the needs of other clients! Recently my son and I were enjoying a typical day in the pool when were were yelled at by another client. She was upset about the way we were using the Handicap restroom. I understood her concerns and tried to calmly discuss them with her. However, she was instantly elevated in her attitude and began screaming at my son and I. I am grateful that in his quiet world, he didn't even notice. In that chaotic moment, his symptoms were a blessing. However, I felt sad and frustrated as I watched my son enjoying himself. A few moments later, another client who I have become friendly with, came out to the pool to let me know that the confrontational woman continued to talk about my family and try to insight others in the locker room to her plight. My friend informed me that this woman was "waiting" for us to come back through the locker room so she could give me a "piece of her mind". My friend made me aware that she had let the front desk know what was going on. 2 minutes later, Gwen and Danny showed up at the pool! They asked how we were and shared their concern. They were kind, calm and transparent while being totally professional and understanding of all points of view represented. They asked if we felt comfortable and offered to help. Because of their care and concern, I was able to have my son walk through the men's restroom with another client with no stress. I was able to allow my son the right to enjoy the pool, with no stress to him and leave the gym feeling safe, protected and respected! There's NO better feeling! Thank you, everyone!

TWO (2) squat racks in a gym with well over 3k total members is absurd. Poor management and club planning. Sales are sales in the gym business, but take care of your members at least
