How much does a smog check cost?

Kentucky does not do emissions testing. Smog tests are done in states that require a yearly inspection sticker. As kentucky does not do this, no repair shops in town will have…

The job was completed very quickly and the communication with me (Dad) was excellent. I remembered that 10 years ago my wife's minivan transmission was going bad. ****O had told us a new transmission was needed costing over $4K. I took it over to Lexington Transmission, and they discovered the tranny was just low on Oil and fixed the problem for about $100. This outfit is honest and trustworthy and therefore I recommend them highly.

I'm a big girl, but my parents still take care of me when it comes to things of this nature. My dad…read moreespecially likes to make sure that I'm not gouged or taken advantage of. Dad had taken a car here in the past, so when I was in the market to get my transmission fluid changed, Dad recommended that I take it here. In the past he'd had a good experience, which is the only reason I'm giving it a second star. Mom called and asked how much they charged the specific transmission service, a filter and fluid change. Dad is a retired mechanic, so he's picky when it comes to our cars, which is one reason that I leave these kind of tasks in his hands. He was adamant that the filter needed changed. Fast forward to when Mom and Dad both dropped it off, again clarifying that the fluid and filter to be changed or flushed. Mom picked it up and later learned that the filter wasn't changed and not also, not all of the fluid was changed. When they were questioned on it, they indicated that there wasn't a filter. Dad checked the fluid and it still looked dirty. When they were questioned on that part, they said that they weren't able to drain it all, so not all of the transmission fluid was changed! But they charged for the full five quarts, and they charged the same price for the job as quoted on the phone, with the filter change. If you get into a job and realize it's too difficult, or that you can't complete the job as originally planned, why charge the full price?! When Dad questioned the issue, the technician was hateful and made the comment about him wanting something for free. As a matter of fact, yes. After speaking with the dealership and confirming that there is actually transmission fluid filter, we are taking it to be changed and the fluid flushed. The dealership rate is double the price that will be paid to correct the job that Lexington Transmission didn't complete.

Ken Towery's Tire & Auto Care

Amazing customer service…read more I called Manager James Arnold at this location in a panic because my tire had been punctured by a screw or something of the sorts. Although it was nearly 4:30pm on a Saturday, he told me to bring my car in and that they would fix it. I only waited about ten minutes, and when I went to pay them for their time, he didn't charge me a thing! As a strapped-for-cash law student, I completely appreciated the gesture and will return for all of my car servicing needs in the future. As a woman with almost no knowledge of cars, I am continually impressed with places that do not try to overcharge me or con me into unnecessary repairs. Thank you, Mr. Arnold and Ken Towery's, for providing excellent customer service in a friendly atmosphere.

Very Disappointing Experience -- Be Careful With This Shop…read more I brought my car to the Ken Towery on Nicholasville Road in Lexington to have four new tires installed. The car had an entirely new set of wheels--tires and rims--installed less than a year ago, but after my son hit a curb and damaged two tires, I decided to replace all four. I paid over $1,000 for four new tires. As soon as I drove away, I noticed that one of the tire pressure sensors was no longer registering, so I immediately returned to the store. I was told the sensor was "missing when I brought the car in." If that was actually the case, why wasn't I told about it while they were installing the tires or before I paid and drove away? Then came the upsell: I was told I should replace all four sensors for another $450. I declined and agreed to return the next day to have only the supposedly missing sensor replaced. When I returned, the story changed. Now I was told two sensors weren't registering and the other two had low batteries. Again, these wheels were purchased brand new less than a year ago. After the work was completed, I drove away and two sensors still weren't working. I cannot prove what happened to the original sensors, and I want to be clear about that. But given that these were nearly new wheels and the sensor problems appeared immediately after Ken Towery changed the tires, the experience left me seriously questioning what happened to the sensors that were on my wheels when I arrived. What bothers me just as much is the constant attempt to upsell me--from a $1,000+ tire purchase to suddenly being told I needed another $450 worth of sensors, with the explanation changing from one visit to the next. Based on my experience, I would not recommend the Ken Towery on Nicholasville Road. I left feeling like I was being upsold at every opportunity and with more problems than I had when I arrived. Stay away from this location, or at minimum document the condition of your wheels and TPMS sensors before handing them your keys.
